Transient Atmospheric Events Measured by Detectors on the Vernov Satellite

In this paper, data obtained by the Vernov satellite are discussed in comparison with the data obtained by Universitetsky–Tatiana-1, 2 satellites. The advanced instrumentation onboard the Vernov satellite improved the capabilities of the data-transmission system, providing an opportunity to acquire more detailed information on transient atmospheric events (TAEs), including a wider range of TAE photon numbers (event brightness) down to lower photon numbers, the opportunity to observe the events in ultraviolet range without the considerable inclusion of red–infrared photons (which indicates the substantial contribution of electric discharges, lightning precursors, at the altitudes of thunderstorm clouds), and the observation of TAE series at a rate of about 10–100 occurrences per second with a period from tens of seconds to several minutes.     

Paleoarchean orthopyroxenites of the Bug granulite–gneiss domain at the Ukrainian shield

This report presents data on the geological structure and location of the orthopyroxenite inclusion in gneissic enderbites of the Bug granulite–gneiss domain. Three stages of orthopyroxenite formation were identified on the basis of studies of the mineral composition along with the U–Pb and Lu–Hf isotope systems of zircons.     

Age stages of metamorphism at the Kitoi Sillimanite schist deposit, southeastern Prisayan’e

The Irkut Block with dominant rocks of the Sharyzhalgai Series and Kitoi Block with prevalence of the Kitoi Series rocks are the main structures of the Presayanian basement elevation of the Siberian Craton. Two stages of metamorphism, Neoarchean (2.6–2.7 Ga) and Paleoproterozoic (1.85–1.87 Ga), were established for the granulitic complexes of these blocks. The rocks of the Kitoi sillimanite schist deposit composed of sillimanite, andalusite-sillimanite, and garnet-sillimanite schists and gneisses underwent by intense ultrametamorphic transformations which led to the formation of sillimanite- and garnet-bearing plagioclase and feldspar migmatites, and also granites, sienites, and granite-pegmatites. The geochronological study of melanocratic schists and leucocratic plagiogneisses-the typical rocks of the Kitoi deposit-showed the manifestation of metamorphism only at the Archean and Proterozoic boundary (2450–2550 Ma).     

First Evidence of the Archean Age of Orogenic Gold of the Russian Part of the Karelian Craton (Fennoscandian Shield): Sm–Nd Mineral Isochron for Gold-Bearing Metasomatites of the Novye Peski Deposit

One unsolved problem of Archean metallogeny of the Russian part of the Fennoscandian Shield is related to the period of formation of orogenic gold deposits, the age of which was previously considered Early Proterozoic. Comprehensive studies identified the complex evolution of ores from the Novye Peski deposit and the first Neoarchean Sm–Nd isochron isotopic age (2583 ± 16 Ma) of the formation of orogenic gold of the Karelian Craton. A significant positive ε_Nd(t) value of +4.7 of gold-bearing metasomatites probably points to the link between the ore-forming fluid and the deep mantle source.

The age of high-pressure metasomatism in shear zones during collision-related metamorphism in the Lapland granulite belt: The Sm-Nd method of dating the paragenesises from sillimanite-orthopyroxene rocks of Por’ya Guba nappe

The Sm-Nd isotope-chronological method is used for the first time to investigate the whole rock and rock-forming minerals from metasomatic sillimanite orthopyroxene rocks in the Por’ya Guba nappe of the Lapland granulite belt. As a result isochrone values of the age are obtained, which allows estimate the minimum time intervals that have passed from the moment of formation of the investigated rocks. They indicate that peak conditions of collision metamorphism in fluid-permeable shear zones of the LGB occurred in the Paleoproterozoic Svekofennian age when high-temperature high-pressure sillimanite-orthopyroxene metasomatic rocks were formed. The obtained data make it possible to assume that, with regard to the measurement errors, high-pressure metasomatism did not last over 10 Ma, and this process did not coincide in time with older medium pressure metamorphism.
