In field and laboratory experiments the relationship of redox, electric, and total potential was studied. This was carried out by using different arrangements of Pt and Ag/AgCl electrodes. The total potential is obtained by placing a Pt and an Ag/AgCl electrode at considerable distance apart on the rock. The studies indicate that the total potential yields the sum of redox and electric potential. Deviations larger than a couple of mV are caused by extensive fluid–rock interactions. In the laboratory it is seen that the magnitude of the electric potential is generally not larger than the artificially produced difference of the redox potential. The former is most likely attributed to a diffusion or membrane potential. At field scale the electric potential is designated as self potential. Redox potential measurements in the field may supply information from remnants of pore fluid of the rock and thereby may be suitable to support the exploration of concealed metal deposits. Detectable are in particular the fast H+ ions which are released by electrochemical reactions and transported by electromigration, both of which are attributed to the presence of the so called geobattery. 相似文献

Abstract Solar noble gases He, Ne, Ar and Kr implanted in the H3–6 meteorite regolith breccia Acfer 111 agree in their elemental composition with that in present-day solar wind and, except for a 25% deficit of 4He, also with adopted solar abundances. The presence of such unfractionated solar gases makes Acfer 111 unique (until now). Closed system stepped etching releases noble gases that can be explained as mixtures of two distinct types of He, Ne, and Kr of isotopic compositions as they have been derived previously from meteorites and lunar samples that contain heavily fractionated solar gases. Since the same putative end members, ascribed to the solar wind (SW) and supra-thermal solar energetic particles (SEP), are also present in Acfer 111, we argue that these end members represent two truly independent components. We discount the possibility that one isotopic composition derived from the other by diffusion of the gases within, or upon their release from, their host phases. The isotopic signatures of noble gases in Acfer 111 agree with those in a lunar ilmenite of young antiquity ?100 Ma) but are in disagreement with the noble gases in lunar ilmenite 79035 of 1–2 Ga antiquity. Systematic changes are discussed of the nuclide abundance ratios as etching proceeds; they are ascribed to differences in trapping efficiency and in penetration depth of the different noble gas ion species upon their implantation. 相似文献

We examine the ROSAT PSPC X-ray properties of a sample of 15 Abell clusters containing 23 narrow-angle tailed (NAT) radio galaxies. We find that clusters with NATs show a significantly higher level of substructure than a similar sample of radio-quiet clusters, indicating that NAT radio sources are preferentially located in dynamically complex systems. Also, the velocity distribution of the NAT galaxies is similar to that of other cluster members; these velocities are inadequate for producing the ram pressure necessary to bend the radio jets. We therefore propose a new model for NAT formation, in which NATs are associated with dynamically complex clusters undergoing merger events. The U -shaped NAT morphology is produced in part by the merger-induced bulk motion of the ICM bending the jets. 相似文献

We have fitted field measurements of fracture spacings (from the vicinity of Lake Strom Thurmond, Georgia, U.S.A.) to the Weibull, Schuhmann and fractal distributions. The fracture spacings follow a fractal and Weibull distribution which implies that they were formed as a result of a repetitive fragmentation process. The limited variation of the fracture density with orientation in the study area suggests that the stress distribution generating these fractures may be uniform. 相似文献

Non-reflectionsymmetric turbulent motions in an electrically conducting fluid provide for an average electromotoric force α parallel to the average magnetic field . This effect – furthermore called α-effect – can lead to a self-excited built-up of magnetic fields by dynamo action. Since by actions of Coriolis forces turbulent motions in rotating systems generally are non-reflectionsymmetric, the explanation of stellar and planetary magnetic fields becomes possible. – In this first part spherical alternating field dynamos are calculated on conditions similar to those at the sun; α-effect and differential rotation provide for dynamo action. – The basic equations, which form a system of partial differential equations, are treated by a separation method; in this way our problem is transformed into a two-parametric eigenvalue problem for an infinite system of ordinary differential equations. The two eigenvalues determine the frequency and the amount of the induction actions necessary for the field maintenance. The solution of this problem was made by an electronic computer. – The results give evidence for the possibility of magnetohydrodynamic alternating field dynamos. Furthermore the magnitude of the calculated eigenvalues and the similarities between the calculated field and the observed solar magnetic field are showing that the sun realizes a dynamo of this kind. 相似文献

We report on simulations of present-day climate (1961–1990) and future climate conditions (2071–2100, Special Report on Emissions
Scenario A2) over the Caspian sea basin with a regional climate model (RCM) nested in time-slice general circulation model
(GCM) simulations. We also calculate changes (A2 scenario minus present-day) in Caspian sea level (CSL) in response to changes
in the simulated hydrologic budget of the basin. For the present-day run, both the GCM and RCM show a good performance in
reproducing the water budget of the basin and the magnitude of multi-decadal changes in CSL. Compared to present-day climate,
in the A2 scenario experiment we find an increase in cold season precipitation and an increase in temperature and evaporation,
both over land and over the Caspian sea. We also find a large decrease of CSL in the A2 scenario run compared to the present-day
run. This is due to increased evaporation loss from the basin (particularly over the sea) exceeding increased cold season
precipitation over the basin. Our results suggest that the CSL might undergo large changes under future climate change, leading
to potentially devastating consequences for the economy and environment of the region. 相似文献

A new paleoclimatic reconstruction for western France is obtained from tree-ring cellulose stable isotopes. Living trees from Rennes Forest and beams from two ancient buildings in Rennes city have been combined to cover the past four centuries with a gap from 1730 to 1750. The cellulose 13C reflects the progressive changes in atmospheric CO2 isotopic composition. The combined 13C and 18O measurements are used to propose a reconstruction of interannual fluctuations in local summer temperature and water stress. At the decadal time scale, the reconstructed water stress profile exhibits a significant similarity with the historical wine harvest dates, an indicator of warm and dry growth seasons, as well as with the summer central England and central Alps instrumental temperature records and climate model results. Combined with instrumental precipitation records from Paris, these reconstructions suggest a dramatic and widespread change in the seasonality of the precipitation at the beginning of the nineteenth century, with drier winters and wetter summers, which may have contributed to the Alpine glacier decline at the end of the Little Ice Age. The tree-ring isotope records also show a relationship with large-scale North Atlantic circulation changes and the interannual variability is modified between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (7–8 year periodicities) and the seventeenth century (11–14 year periodicities). By classifying 20-year-long subsets of the reconstructed climatic parameters, we estimate that a decadal mean summer warming of 0.8±0.1°C induced extreme dry years to be 2.2±0.7 times more frequent. 相似文献
