The evolution of thermohaline structure at the upper ocean during three tropical cyclones(TCs) in the Northwest Pacific was studied in this study based on successive observation by two new-style underwater gliders during fall 2018. These remote-controllable gliders with CTD sensor enabled us to explore high frequency responses of temperature, salinity, mixed and barrier layers in the upper ocean to severe TCs in this area. Results showed that three significant cooling-to-warming and stratification destructing-to-reconstructing processes at the mixed layer occurred during the lives of three TCs. The maximal cooling of SST all reached ≥0.5℃ although TCs with different intensities had different minimal distances to the observed area. Under potential impacts of solar radiation, tide and inertial motions, the mixed layer depth possessed significant high-frequency fluctuations during TC periods.In addition, barrier layers appeared and vanished quickly during TCs, accompanied with varied temperature inversion processes.  相似文献

Climate induced changes of temperature, discharge and nitrogen concentration may change natural denitrification processes in river systems. Until now seasonal variation of N-retention by denitrification under different climate scenarios and the impact of river morphology on denitrification have not been thoroughly investigated. In this study climate scenarios (dry, medium and wet) have been used to characterize changing climatic and flow conditions for the period 2050–2054 in the 4th order stream Weiße Elster, Germany. Present and future periods of nitrogen turnover were simulated with the WASP5 river water quality model. Results revealed that, for a dry climate scenario, the mean denitrification rate was 71% higher in summer (low flow period between 2050 and 2054) and 51% higher in winter (high flow period) compared to the reference period. For the medium and wet climate scenarios, denitrification was slightly higher in summer (3% and 4%) and lower in winter (9% and 3% for medium and wet scenarios, respectively). Additionally, the variability of denitrification rates was higher in summer compared to winter conditions. For a natural river section, denitrification was a factor of 1.22 higher than for a canalized river reach. Besides, weirs along the river decrease the denitrification rate by 16% in July for dry scenario conditions. In the 42 km study reach, N-retention through denitrification amounted to 5.1% of the upper boundary N load during summer low flow conditions in the reference period. For the future dry climate scenario this value increased up to 10.2% and for the medium climate scenario up to 5.4%. In our case study the investigated climate scenarios showed that future discharge changes may have a larger impact on denitrification rates than future temperature changes. Overall results of the study revealed the significance of climate change in regulating the magnitude, seasonal pattern and variability of nitrogen retention. The results provide guidance for managing nitrogen related environmental problems for present and future climate conditions.  相似文献

Phase equilibrium data have been collected for isobaricallyunivariant melting of simplified Iherzolite compositions inthe system CaO-MgO-Al2O3 SiO2-Na2O over a pressure range of7–35 kbar. These data permit the melting behavior of awide variety of model lherzolite compositions to be determinedquantitatively by algebraic methods. Two P-T univariant meltingreactions, corresponding to plagioclase to spinel lherzoliteand spinel to garnet lherzolite, are identified as peritectic-typetransitions and have positive Clapeyron slopes. The univariantcurves move to higher pressures and temperatures with increasingNa2O in the liquid. The effect of the univariant curves on meltingis to produce low-temperature regions and isobarically invariantmelting intervals along lherzolite solidi. In the plagioclaselherzolite stability field, melting of four-phase model lherzoliteis pseudo-invariant, occurring over small temperature intervals(5C) and producing liquids that are quartz tholeiites at <8kbar and olivine tholeiites at >8 kbar. Calculated equilibriumconstants for plagioclase-liquid equilibria show both temperatureand pressure dependence. Plagioclase with anorthite content(AN) >90 mol%, as observed in some oceanic basalts, can crystallizefrom liquids with <1% Na2O. Melting of spinel lherzoliteis not pseudo-invariant but occurs over large temperature intervals(15–60 C), producing a wide range in liquid compositions,from alkali basalts and alkali picrites at low to moderate degreesof melting (<1–10%) to olivine tholeiites and picritesat higher degrees of melting (>10%). On the basis of limiteddata in the garnet Iherzolite field, melts from garnet lherzoliteare more silica rich for a given degree of melting than meltsfrom spinel lherzolite, and liquid compositions trend towardenstatite with increase in pressure. Source fertility (especiallyNa2O content) has a strong control on the temperature of meltingand liquid composition. Less fertile sources produce smalleramounts of liquids richer in normative silica. For certain bulkcompositions (high SiO2 and low Al2O3), spinel is not a stablephase along the lherzolite solidus.  相似文献

对取自西南非纳米比亚Damara造山带Waterberg断层带中的细粒灰岩的变形结构与亚微结构开展的多方面综合研究 ,揭示出在流体相遍布的上部地壳环境中 ,细粒灰岩的变形属性具有双重性 :脆性与晶质塑性。这种双重性突出表现在破裂与微破裂构造的广泛发育 ,以及细粒动态重结晶颗粒沿着破裂带 (面 )的出现。导致这种双重过程的主要因素在于岩石变形作用过程中流体相的介入。破裂与微破裂的出现 ,为流体相介入岩石变形提供了通道 ,使得流体相能够弥散于高应变带及高应变晶体内。水解弱化是流体相影响岩石变形的重要机理。流体相促进位错滑移与攀移 ,并加速应变颗粒的恢复作用 ,以协调破裂过程。  相似文献

The nutrient status of the various water mass structures within a large sampling grid around Elephant Island are reported and the nutrient concentrations relative to jata from the physical and biological components of the Antarctic Marine Living Resources Programme are discussed. Concentrations of silicic acid, nitrate and phosphate (Si/N/P) were measured in the upper water column during January-March of three successive years. Samples were taken from eleven depths at 17 stations in 1991, and at four depths at 144 stations in 1992 and 182 stations in 1993. There was considerable variability in the concentrations of all three nutrients within the study area, but silicic acid showed the greatest variance among the water masses present in the sampling grid. The ratios (Si/N/P) of the nutrient deficits (difference in winter and summer values) in the upper 100 m differed considerably in Drake Passage waters as compared to Bransfield Strait waters, with both nitrate and silicic acid showing the greatest variance. Nutrient deficits did not increase from January to February, indicating that rates of replenishment of nutrients to the euphotic zone by physical processes and/or biological regeneration were approximately equal to the rate of uptake and assimilation by phytoplankton during that time period. The seasonal deficits, however, were substantial. Estimates of daily rates of primary production based on these nutrient deficits were comparable to the rates as measured by radiocarbon for Drake Passage waters, but much smaller for Bransfield Strait waters.  相似文献

Abstract The Belle Plaine III meteorite is one of three meteorites, all of about the same size, found within a 2 mile strip southeast of Belle Plaine, Kansas. The meteorite weighs 23.9 kg, and consists of about 28% metallic minerals and 72% silicates. Nickel-iron, magnetite, hypersthene and olivene are the major constituents. The meteorite is an olivene-hypersthene chondrite.  相似文献

Abstract. About 1950 an iron meteorite weighing 19 1/4 pounds was found a mile west of Withrow in Douglas County, Washington. The discovery site happens to be a little less than 5 miles SSE from that of the Waterville meteorite. However, the two irons are definitely not from a single fall. Withrow is a medium octahedrite showing secondary recrystallization of the type ascribed to cosmic heating. It was apparently picked up not more than a few years after it fell. Weathering is minimal, and effects of passage through the atmosphere are well preserved.  相似文献

A seismic hazard evaluation for three dams in the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado is based on a study of the historical seismicity. To model earthquake occurrence as a random process utilizing a maximum likelihood method, the catalog must exhibit random space-time characteristics. This was achieved using a declustering procedure and correction for completeness of recording. On the basis of the resulting a- and b-values, probabilistic epicentral distances for a 2 × 10–5 annual probability were calculated. For a random earthquake of magnitude M L 6.0–6.5, this distance is 15 km. Suggested ground motion parameters were estimated using a probabilistic seismic hazard analysis. Critical peak horizontal accelerations at the dams are 0.22g if median values are assumed and 0.39g if variable attenuation and seismicity rates are taken into account. For structural analysis of the dams, synthetic acceleration time series were calculated to match the empirical response spectra. In addition, existing horizontal strong motion records from two Mammoth Lakes, California earthquakes were selected and scaled to fit the target horizontal acceleration response spectra.  相似文献
