A preliminary commission error analysis whereby orbit perturbation theory and other techniques are used to assess and predict the recovery of the Earths gravity field from the challenging microsatellite payload (CHAMP) mission is developed and implemented. With CHAMP launched in July 2000, accumulated evidence is now available to quantify the errors in the recovery procedure including the orbital precision from GPS, attitude errors, accelerometer noise and thruster mismatch/misalignment. For the latter, numerical integrations using a variable length single-step Runge–Kutta integrator and a fixed length multi-step method are compared to assess the error associated with assuming that the thruster misalignment can be spread uniformly across a step interval. Error degree variances from simulated studies are compared to results from a recently released CHAMP-based gravity field, EIGEN-1S. It is seen that the orbital positioning, as derived from the onboard GPS receiver, is critical, with accelerometer noise contributing at a lower level. Attitude error, at currently quoted accuracy, is not significant as an error source.

Three examples of the unusual development of high-latitude large-scale features during cycle 23 are described. These features are found in synoptic plots constructed using data obtained at both the NSOKP and the MWO Observatories. Several properties of these features cannot be reproduced in direct simulations using a modified form of the flux-transport equation appropriate for synoptic fields and it is inferred that their evolution is not due solely to the advection and diffusion of decaying active region fields. The analysis shows that one feature may be related to a high-latitude bipolar region which emerged in an earlier rotation. By imposing the locations of H filaments on enlargements of the NSOKP daily magnetograms, we can identify the location of the other features and study their structure at high resolution. This suggests that they are related to the emergence of small magnetic knots at high latitudes. By repeating the simulations including overlays of non-random patterns of bipoles emerging at appropriate times during the simulations, it is possible to study the effects of different patterns and to reproduce some of the qualitative properties of these features not present in the direct simulations. These results support Stenflo's contention that `quite minute deviations from a random distribution (in the emergence of small-scale fields) would suffice for these fields to have global effects'. 相似文献

Measurement of ecological, climatic and anthropogenic changes underpins the formulation of effective management strategies for sustainable use and protection of the marine environment. Sensors are traditionally used in marine studies to determine physical parameters, but there is increasing demand for real-time information about chemical and biological parameters. These parameters are currently measured in samples collected at sea and subsequently analysed in the laboratory. Biosensors fuse the exquisite sensitivity and specificity of living systems with the processing power of microelectronics to deliver simple, inexpensive measurement systems for use in the field or deployment in situ. While their potential for use in the marine environment is enormous, much published work to date has focussed on applications in freshwater and wastewater. Marine applications pose a substantial challenge in the robustness required for remote application, but recent developments in portable medical devices and receptor design suggest that these demands can now be realistically tackled. 相似文献

The study results of He and Ar isotopes from fluid inclusions in pyrites formed during mineralization stage of Jinding superlarge
Pb-Zn deposit in west Yunnan, China are reported. The data show that the40Ar/36Ar and3He/4He ratios of fluid inclusions are respectively in the range of 301. 7–385. 7 and 0. 03–0.06Ra, suggesting the oreforming fluid
is a kind of air saturated meteoric groundwater. On the basis of research on coupled relationships among He, Ar, S and Pb
isotopes, the evolution history of ore-forming fluid of the deposit can be summarized as (i) air saturated meteogenic groundwater
infiltrated down and was heated→ (ii) leached S, C and radiogenic He, Ar from the basinal strata → (iii) leached Pb and Zn
from mantle-derived igneous rocks located in the bottom of the basin→ (iv) ore-forming fluid ascended and formed the deposit.
Due to this process, the isotope signatures of crustal radiogenic He, atmospheric Ar (with partial radiogenic40Ar), crustal S and mantle-derived Pb remained in the ore-forming fluid.

Paleomagnetic records of declination and inclination from sediments recovered from the bed of Lake Kinneret (32.4°N, 35.7°E) have been dated by radiocarbon techniques. The sediments span the last 5000 yr. The changes in inclination down the sediment cores are more pronounced than the declination fluctuations and are repeatable between the three coring sites, which are several kilometers apart. Magnetic susceptibility logs display 13 maxima in the 5-m-long sequences, with a pronounced susceptibility minimum about 1000 yr B.P. Many of the susceptibility maxima and minima can be easily correlated between coring sites and are shown to be dominantly related to changes in sediment carbonate content. The natural remanent magnetization intensity follows a similar pattern to that of susceptibility, and the natural remanence of the Kinneret sediments is presumed to reside in detrital magnetite grains carried into the lake by the river Jordan from the basalt-rich bedrock of the rift floor and the Golan Heights. The 14C chronology is strongly supported by a pollen study in which pronounced changes in the proportion of olive pollen were interpreted as being due to extensive cultivation of olives around Galilee in the Hellenistic and Byzantine periods. The Kinneret paleosecular variation records, if accurately dated, point to a complex spatial pattern of Holocene secular variation with significant variations over distances as small as 1000–2000 km. 相似文献

Measurements of the temperature and composition of effluent from vents on the sea floor can be used to deduce the in-situ density of this fluid, which is required for calculations of flow in the chimneys and through their porous walls. This density is, however, not directly relevant when calculating the buoyancy flux in the plume above a smoker. It is the asymptotic buoyancy flux, following extensive dilution with seawater, which is required when estimating the height of rise of plumes in a stably stratified ocean, and when calculating the criterion for reversal of buoyancy due to non-linear mixing effects. The results of mixing calculations show that the effluent from hydrothermal vents on the sea floor will exhibit reversing buoyancy if the ejected fluid has a temperature of 300°C and a salinity greater than 8 wt.% NaCl. If the temperature of the effluent is 200°C the salinity required for reversing buoyancy falls to 5.5 wt.% NaCl. Measurements of temperature and salinities of sea-floor hydrothermal fluid suggest that fluids with the characteristics required to form reversing plumes are ejected at the sea floor. The possibility that reversing plumes may be found has important implications for the formation of massive sulfide deposits. 相似文献

A model of the Martian satellite Phobos was constructed at a scale of 1:60 000 using 25 Mariner 9 photorecords and a solar-simulation technique. Measurements of the crater diameters D, depths d, ratios , longitude and latitude locations of the centers, IAU designations, crater shapes, and rim class are given in a catalog of 260 depressions. An open-ended indexing of the craters is based on their locations by octant and diameter magnitude. Six craters were found with sharply defined rims. At least 28 craters have raised rims. The range of the ratios is from 0.002 to 0.26, with a mean of 0.10. The mean diameter of Stickney is interpreted to be 11.1 km, its minimum 9.6 km, and the diameter of Hall 5.9 km. A 100-m contour-interval topographic map has been drawn from measurements of the model. This is rendered on an elliptical form of a Lambert equal-area polar projection. The topographic map made it possible to estimate vector lengths from the center of Phobos to vertices on a 6-frequency octahedron that fits the sattelite. A mean radius of 11.0 km results from averaging the vector lengths to the 146 well-distributed vertices of the polyhedron. A volume of 5620 km3 is deduced. 相似文献
