In this paper, a study aimed to assess the rockfall hazard along a portion of the SS18 coastal road, located in the coastal area of Maratea (Basilicata Region, Southern Italy), is presented. The relevance of this study derives from the location of the study area, because the SS18 is a strategic roads in a touristic area, and, since the hazard assessment was performed in 2004 within a project financed by the Viability Regional Department of Autonomous National Company of Roads (ANAS), from the possibility to validate the results by using real rockfall events occurred after 2004. The procedure for assessing the rockfall hazard was composed of four sequential analyses: (i) geomechanical and kinematic characterization of rock mass, (ii) implementation of Romana’s (1985) Slope Mass Rating (SMR) method for identifying the potential boulder release areas (rockfall initiation areas), (iii) determination of rockfall trajectories by using a 3D numerical model (ROTOMAP), (iv) calculation and mapping of the hazard index by combining three factors, i.e., (a) lithological features of outcropping materials on rock faces, (b) kinematic compatibility defined by simulating the rockfall trajectories, and (c) spatial distribution of occurred rockfall events. Finally, the proposed methodology was validated by combining the distribution of the hazard levels along the road with the location on the SS18 of the rockfall events occurred from 2004 to 2014. 相似文献

The Southern Marginal Zone of the late Archean Limpopo Belt of southern Africa is an example of a high‐grade gneiss terrane in which both upper and lower crustal deformational processes can be studied. This marginal zone consists of large thrust sheets of complexly folded low‐strain gneisses, bound by an imbricate system of kilometre‐wide deep crustal shear zones characterized by the presence of high‐strain gneisses (‘primary straight gneisses’). These shear zones developed during the decompression stage of this high‐grade terrane. Low‐ and high‐strain gneisses both contain similar reaction textures that formed under different kinematic conditions during decompression. Evidence for the early M1/D1 metamorphic phase (> 2690 Ma) is rarely preserved in low‐strain gneisses as a uniform orientation of relict Al‐rich orthopyroxene in the matrix and quartz and plagioclase inclusions in the cores of early (M1) Mg‐rich garnet porphyroblasts. This rare fabric formed at > 820 °C and > 7.5 kbar. The retrograde M2/D2 metamorphic fabric (2630–2670 Ma) is well developed in high‐strain gneisses from deep crustal shear zones and is microscopically recognized by the presence of reaction textures that formed synkinematically during shear deformation: M2 sigmoid‐shaped reaction textures with oriented cordierite–orthopyroxene symplectites formed after the early M1 Mg‐rich garnet porphyroblasts, and syn‐decompression M2 pencil‐shaped garnet with oriented inclusions of sillimanite and quartz formed after cordierite under conditions of near‐isobaric cooling at 750–630 °C and 6–5 kbar. The symplectites and pencil‐shaped garnet are oriented parallel to the shear fabric and in the stretching direction. Low‐strain gneisses from thrust sheets show similar M2 decompression cooling and near‐isobaric cooling reaction textures that formed within the same P–T range, but under low‐strain conditions, as shown by their pseudo‐idioblastic shapes that reflect the contours of completely replaced M1 garnet and randomly oriented cordierite–orthopyroxene symplectites. The presence of similar reaction textures reflecting low‐strain conditions in gneisses from thrust sheets and high‐strain conditions in primary straight gneisses suggests that most of the strain during decompression was partitioned into the bounding shear zones. A younger M3/D3 mylonitic fabric (< 2637 Ma) in unhydrated mylonites is characterized by brittle deformation of garnet porphyroclasts and ductile deformation of the quartz–plagioclase–biotite matrix developed at < 600 °C, as the result of post‐decompression shearing under epidote–amphibolite facies conditions. 相似文献

In 1985, a programme of research on the sedimentology and diagenesis of the loess and loessic silts of western Europe was initiated jointly by laboratories in Leicester, Meudon, Caen, Milan, Cardiff and Southampton, involving a limited amount of comparative work on the loess from types sites in the Loess Plateau of central China. Preliminary results include the following: (1) Experimental procedures in particle size analysis, clay sample preparation and microscopy have been standardised in all cooperating groups; distinctive fabrics indicative of depositional mechanisms have been recognised. (2) Comparison of aeolian, colluvial and alluvial silt by laser-scanning and bulk magnetic susceptibility anisotropy methods appears to differentiate aeolian silt from loessic silts re-deposited by slope processes and flowing water. (3) The variability in the anisotropy of the limon à doublet facies has been assessed by image analysis of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy. Strong anisotropy has also been measured in thin section imagery of loess from Normandy and Poland as the product of freezing and thawing. This is confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and by experimental freezing of some silts. (4) The clay fabric and mineralogy in western European loess differ from those in Chinese loess, especially in the case of semi-arid deposits. (5) Distribution of CaCO3, using thin sections and SEM analysis, has been determined for loess from Normandy and the Rhǒne valley in France and for some Chinese loess, At Saint Vallier, zones of CaCO3 concentration occur masking much of the original (loess) sedimentary skeleton which is a locally reworked loessic silt with some laminations. Despite considerable scatter, the palaeomagnetic results indicate a reversed polarity throughout, placing the whole Saint Vallier sequence in the Matuyama chron. These preliminary results suggest the existence of two different palaeoenvironments: one typified by central China, with arid glacials and humid interglacials; and the other represented by western Europe, with generally high humidities. Approximately 10% of the QSOs show broad absorption lines (BAL) in their spectra which, if interpreted in terms of Doppler velocities, reveal the presence of high velocity gas outflows. One of these BAL QSOs is known to be gravitationally lensed. It therefore constitutes a good candidate to search for microlensing effects, i.e. the selective amplification of different line forming regions. Considering current models for the BAL region, we have investigated the effects of moving microlenses on the line profiles, and we conclude that these effects strongly depend on the adopted model. A regular spectroscopic monitoring of lensed BAL QSOs would therefore be highly valuable to distinguish between the various models proposed so far to interpret the origin of broad absorption lines.Also, Maître de Recherches au FNRS 相似文献

When using numerical methods in soil mechanics, one often needs to define a yield surface in three-dimensional principal-stress space. A special class of yield surfaces, given by J = (p+a)α(1?β sin 3ν)n, where ν is the Lode angle, is considered from the point of view of convexity and agreement with experimental data. Some recently proposed yield functions which belong to this class are compared. It is shown that the model with n = ?0.229 is optimal as regards convexity, and can give reasonable agreement with the data. 相似文献
