This study examines whether a group of captive false killer whales (Pseudorca crassidens ) showed variations in the vocal rate around feeding times. The high level of motivation to express appetitive behaviors in captive animals may lead them to respond with changes of the behavioral activities during the time prior to food deliveries which are referred to as food anticipatory activity. False killer whales at Qingdao Polar Ocean World (Qingdao, China) showed significant variations of the rates of both the total sounds and sound classes (whistles, clicks, and burst pulses) around feedings. Precisely, from the Transition interval that recorded the lowest vocalization rate (3.40 s/m/d), the whales increased their acoustic emissions upon trainers’ arrival (13.08 s/m/d). The high rate was maintained or intensified throughout the food delivery (25.12 s/m/d), and then reduced immediately after the animals were fed (9.91 s/m/d). These changes in the false killer whales sound production rates around feeding times supports the hypothesis of the presence of a food anticipatory vocal activity. Although sound rates may not give detailed information regarding referential aspects of the animal communication it might still shed light about the arousal levels of the individuals during different social or environmental conditions. Further experiments should be performed to assess if variations of the time of feeding routines may affect the vocal activity of cetaceans in captivity as well as their welfare.  相似文献

The organic–inorganic nature of organic-rich source rocks poses several challenges for the development of functional relations that link mechanical properties with geochemical composition. With this focus in mind, we herein propose a method that enables chemo-mechanical characterization of this highly heterogeneous source rock at the micron and submicron length scale through a statistical analysis of a large array of energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) data coupled with nanoindentation data. The ability to include elemental composition to the indentation probe via EDX is shown to provide a means to identify pure material phases, mixture phases, and interfaces between different phases. Employed over a large array, the statistical clustering of this set of chemo-mechanical data provides access to the properties of the fundamental building blocks of clay-dominated organic-rich source rocks. The versatility of the approach is illustrated through the application to a large number of source rocks of different origin, chemical composition, and organic content. We find that the identified properties exhibit a unique scaling relation between stiffness and hardness. This suggests that organic-rich shale properties can be reduced to their elementary constituents, with several implications for the development of predictive functional relations between chemical composition and mechanical properties of organic-rich source rocks such as the intimate interplay between clay-packing, organic maturity, and mechanical properties of porous clay/organic phase.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to investigate the effects of adsorption of toxic carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen monoxide (NO) molecules on heterogeneous C16Zn8O8 nanocage. A detailed analysis of the energetic, geometry, and electronic structure of various CO and NO adsorptions on the cluster surface was performed. It has been shown that CO molecule was adsorbed on the surface of the cluster resulting in more stable complex system, while NO molecule adsorption led to less stable system. These processes also changed the electronic properties of the cluster by reducing the HOMO/LUMO energy gap after adsorption process. Since this phenomenon led to an increment in the electrical conductivity of the cluster at a definite temperature, the C16Zn8O8 was transformed to a stronger semiconductor substance upon the CO and NO adsorption. We believe that this research may be helpful in the several fields study such as sensor and catalyst investigation.  相似文献

Short‐term Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts (QPFs) can be achieved from numerical weather prediction (NWP) models or radar nowcasting, that is the extrapolation of the precipitation at a future time from consecutive radar scans. Hybrid forecasts obtained by merging rainfall forecasts from radar nowcasting and NWP models are potentially more skilful than either radar nowcasts or NWP rainfall forecasts alone. This paper provides an assessment of deterministic and probabilistic high‐resolution QPFs achieved by implementing the Short‐term Ensemble Prediction System developed by the UK Met Office. Both radar nowcasts and hybrid forecasts have been performed. The results show that the performance of both deterministic nowcasts and deterministic hybrid forecasts decreases with increasing rainfall intensity and spatial resolution. The results also show that the blending with the NWP forecasts improves the performance of the forecasting system. Probabilistic hybrid forecasts have been obtained through the modelling of a stochastic noise component to produce a number of equally likely ensemble members, and the comparative assessment of deterministic and probabilistic hybrid forecasts shows that the probabilistic forecasting system is characterised by a higher discrimination accuracy than the deterministic one. Abstract– In situ secondary ion mass spectrometry analyses of 32S, 33S, and 34S in iron‐nickel sulfide grains in two CI1 chondrites and six CM chondrites were performed. The results show a wider range of both enrichment and depletion in δ34S relative to troilite from the Canyon Diablo meteorite (CDT) than has been observed in previous studies. All data points lie within error of a single mass dependent fractionation line. Sulfides from CI1 chondrites show δ34SCDT from ?0.7 to 6.8‰, while sulfide grains in the CM1 chondrite are generally depleted in heavy sulfur relative to CDT (δ34S from ?2.9 to 1.8‰). CM2 chondrites contain sulfide grains that show enrichment and depletion in 34S (δ34SCDT from ?7.0 to 6.8‰). Sulfates forming from sulfide grains during aqueous alteration on the chondrite parent body are suggested to concentrate light sulfur, leaving the remaining sulfide grains enriched in the heavy isotopes of sulfur. The average degree of enrichment in 34S in CM chondrite sulfides is broadly consistent with previously suggested alteration sequences.  相似文献

Kriging Prediction Intervals Based on Semiparametric Bootstrap   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Kriging is a widely used method for prediction, which, given observations of a (spatial) process, yields the best linear unbiased predictor of the process at a new location. The construction of corresponding prediction intervals typically relies on Gaussian assumptions. Here we show that the distribution of kriging predictors for non-Gaussian processes may be far from Gaussian, even asymptotically. This emphasizes the need for other ways to construct prediction intervals. We propose a semiparametric bootstrap method with focus on the ordinary kriging predictor. No distributional assumptions about the data generating process are needed. A simulation study for Gaussian as well as lognormal processes shows that the semiparametric bootstrap method works well. For the lognormal process we see significant improvement in coverage probability compared to traditional methods relying on Gaussian assumptions.  相似文献
