Fine textures of exsolution lamellae and interface boundaries between augite and pigeonite in augite crystals from Skaergaard ferrogabbro 4430 have been studied by high resolution electron microscopy and X-ray methods. Thick pigeonite lamellae have higher densities of (100) stacking faults than thin lamellae. The displacement vector of the faults has been determined as 5/6c from the measured density of faults and the relative rotation of the augite and pigeonite lattices. The augite and pigeonite lattices are apparently coherent, and no growth ledges were observed at the interfaces. The stacking faults are often combined with the antiphase boundary of pigeonite resulting in a total displacement vector of 1/2(a+b)+5/6c. The observation of thick and thin pigeonite lamellae indicated that the thickening of (001) pigeonite lamellae was controlled by coherency strains accumulated at the interfaces between augite and pigeonite. 相似文献

The textures and chemical compositions of the constituent minerals of the fine-grained aggregates (FGA's) of L3 chondrites were studied by the backscattered electron image technique, electron probe microanalysis, and transmission electron microscopy. Plagioclase and glass in the interstices between fine grains of olivine and pyroxene indicate that the FGA's once partly melted. Compositional zoning and decomposition texture of pyroxenes are similar to those observed in chondrules, indicating a common cooling history of the FGA's and chondrules. Therefore, the mechanism that caused melting of the FGA's is considered to be the same as for chondrules. Bulk compositions of the FGA's are within the range of those of chondrules, so some chondrules probably were produced by complete melting of the same precursor materials as those of the FGA's. The precursor materials must have included fine olivine and other grains that probably are condensates. 相似文献

The magnitude and geographical distribution of the error in the Archiving, Validation and Interpretation of Satellite Oceanographic
data (AVISO) altimetry data associated with tidal correction around Asian marginal seas has been revealed. The errors were
evaluated by harmonic analysis of the AVISO corrected sea surface heights data (CorSSH). Errors of more than 15 cm of tidal
correction were recognized in the western and northern parts of the Yellow Sea, Celebes Sea, Kuril Islands, and the northwestern
part of the Okhotsk Sea. It was found that the CorSSH and sea level anomaly (SLA) data downloaded from the AVISO are not available
for direct use in those marginal seas. To reduce the tidal correction error, the harmonic constants calculated from the latest
tide model and regional tide model were applied as the tidal correction of the Altimetry data. The tidal errors in the Yellow
Sea and the northwestern part of the Okhotsk Sea were reduced by approximately 20 cm and 10 cm, respectively. Root mean square
differences between the harmonic constants derived from tide models and those derived from altimetry data were calculated.
The root mean square differences were large in the Yellow and the Okhotsk Seas. Root sum squares for four principal tidal
constituents in the Yellow and East China Seas and Okhotsk Sea were 7.72 cm and 8.36 cm, respectively. 相似文献

Satellite altimetric data have been very useful in the study of variation in the eddy field of the ocean. In order to investigate the variation in the eddy field, we have to remove tidal signals from altimetric data. However, global tidal models do not have sufficient accuracy in marginal seas such as the Japan Sea. In this study, we carried out harmonic analysis of temporal fluctuations of sea surface height data in the Japan Sea measured by TOPEX/POSEIDON. We could eliminate the tidal signals from altimetric data of TOPEX/POSEIDON and also from ERS-2 altimetric data with use of the harmonic constants derived from TOPEX/POSEIDON and tide gauge data along the coast. We draw co-tidal and co-range charts in the Japan Sea using the result of the harmonic analysis of TOPEX/POSEIDON altimetric data and tide gauge data along the coast. The results obtained turn out to be very useful for the tidal correction of altimetric data from satellite in the Japan Sea. 相似文献

Coupled records of Sr/Ca and oxygen isotope ratios (δ18O) of coral skeletons have been used to produce quantitative estimates of paleo-sea surface temperature (SST) and δ18O of surface seawater that can in some cases be converted to sea surface salinity (SSS). Two fossil corals from Kikai Island in the subtropical northwestern Pacific, a location affected by East Asian summer and winter monsoons, were analyzed to investigate differences between mid-Holocene and present-day SST and SSS. At 6180 cal yr BP, SSTs were roughly the same as today, both in summer and winter; δ18Oseawater and SSS values were higher both in summer (+ 0.5‰, +1.1 psu) and in winter (+ 0.2‰, + 0.6 psu) than modern values. At 7010 cal yr BP, SSTs were slightly cooler both in summer and winter (−0.8 and −0.6 °C), whereas δ18Oseawater and SSS had higher values in summer (+ 0.3‰, + 0.6 psu) and in winter (+ 0.8‰, + 1.9 psu) than present-day values. These results are consistent with other marine records for the mid-Holocene of the low and midlatitudes in the northwestern Pacific. Such regional conditions indicate that the East Asian summer and winter monsoons were more intense in the mid-Holocene, which was likely a function of the mid-Holocene insolation regime. 相似文献

The Japan Sea is one of the eddy-rich areas in the world. Many researchers have described the variability of the eddy field and its structure in the Tsushima Warm Current region. On the other hand, since there are few data covering the northern part of the Japan Sea, we are not able to understand the detailed variability of the eddy field there. The variation of the eddy field in the Japan Sea is investigated using the temporal fluctuations of sea surface height measured by altimetric data from TOPEX/POSEIDON and ERS-2. Tidal signals are eliminated from the altimetric data on the basis of the results of Morimoto et al. (2000). Distributions of sea surface dynamic height are produced by using the optimal interpolation method every month. The distributions warm and cold eddies that we obtained coincide well with the observed isotherms at 100 m depth measured by the Japan Sea National Fisheries Research Institute and the sea surface temperature measured by satellite. There are areas with high RMS variability of temporal fluctuation of sea surface dynamic height in the Yamato Basin, the Ulleung Basin, east of North Korea, the eastern part of the Yamato Rise, the Tsushima Strait and west of Hokkaido. The characteristics of eddy propagation in the high RMS variability regions are examined using a lag correlation analysis. Benthos cannot survive in strongly reduced sediments, in which the redox potential is around ?400 mV. Such sediments are typically found in inner harbors that are exposed to wastewater discharges. Field experiments were conducted to investigate the potential of sediment microbial fuel cells (SMFCs) for improving the benthic environment in such sediments. To the best of our knowledge, this has not been reported in any previous literature. Bottom sediment was collected and used to fuel an SMFC suspended 500 mm below the water surface. The sediments then were collected one year after installation, and their benthos environment was investigated. The most remarkable results are that the diversity and growth of benthos were higher in the SMFC-applied sediment than in a control sediment. The results have further strengthened that the sediment remediation was enhanced, in which the oxygen consumption rate of the sediment was reduced, and the mineralization of the organic matter was increased. Our findings suggest that SMFCs are a promising technology for the remediation of strongly reduced sediment and for the improvement of the benthic environment. 相似文献

In Kamchatka, Central Koryak, Central Kamchatka and East Kamchatka metallogenic belts are distributed from northwest to southeast. K–Ar age, sulfur isotopic composition of sulfide minerals, and bulk chemical compositions of ores were analyzed for 13 ore deposits including hydrothermal gold‐silver and base metal, in order to elucidate the geological time periods of ore formation, relationship to regional volcanic belts, type of mineralization, and origin of sulfur in sulfides. The dating yielded ore‐forming ages of 41 Ma for the Ametistovoe deposit in the Central Koryak, 17.1 Ma for the Zolotoe deposit and 6.9 Ma for the Aginskoe deposit in the Central Kamchatka, and 7.4 Ma for the Porozhistoe deposit and 5.1 Ma for the Vilyuchinskoe deposit in the East Kamchatka metallogenic belt. The data combined with previous data of ore‐forming ages indicate that the time periods of ore formation in these metallogenic belts become young towards the southeast. The averaged δ34SCDT of sulfides are ?2.8‰ for the Ametistovoe deposit in Central Koryak, ?1.8‰ to +2.0‰ (av. ?0.1‰) for the Zolotoe, Aginskoe, Baranievskoe and Ozernovskoe deposits in Central Kamchatka, and ?0.7 to +3.8‰ (av. +1.7‰) for Bolshe‐Bannoe, Kumroch, Vilyuchinskoe, Bystrinskoe, Asachinskoe, Rodnikovoe, and Mutnovskoe deposits in East Kamchatka. The negative δ34SCDT value from the Ametistovoe deposit in Central Koryak is ascribed to the contamination of 32S‐enriched sedimentary sulfur in the Ukelayat‐Lesnaya River trough of basement rock. Comparison of the sulfur isotope compositions of the mineral deposits shows similarity between the Central Koryak and Magadan metallogenic belts, and East Kamchatka and Kuril Islands belts. The Central Kamchatka belt is intermediate between these two groups in term of sulfur isotopic composition. 相似文献

We examine the basic characteristics of inflations at Semeru Volcano, Indonesia, to clarify the pressurization process prior
to two different styles of explosive eruptions: Vulcanian eruptions and gas bursts. Analysis of data obtained from tilt meters
installed close to the active crater allows clarification of the common features and the differences between the two styles
of eruptions. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio and to determine the mean characteristics of the inflations, we stack tilt
signals obtained from eruptions of different magnitudes and evaluate the maximum amplitude of the seismic signal associated
with these eruptions. Vulcanian eruptions, which explosively release large amounts of ash, are preceded by accelerating inflation
about 200–300 s before the eruption, which suggests volume expansion of the gas phase. In contrast, gas bursts, which rapidly
effuse water steam accompanied by explosive sounds, follow non-accelerating changes of inflation starting 20 s before each
emission. Tilt amplitudes increase with the magnitude of eruptions for both eruption styles. This suggests that the volume
and/or pressure of magma or gas stored in the conduit before eruptions controls the magnitude of volcanic eruptions. These
results further suggest that the magnitude of eruptions can be predicted from geodetic measurements of volcano inflation. 相似文献
