Here we present a preliminary analysis of a helical eruptive prominence at the east limb of the Sun on 21 April 2001. Unusually
this eruption is associated with a double CME. We have tried to study the morphology of the event, energy budget of the prominence
and associated CMEs. Our analysis shows that the prominence and first CME started simultaneously from the limb and prominence
carries sufficient energy to feed both the CMEs. Moreover, it is also concluded that CMEs are magnetically driven and internally

An East – West, one-dimensional radio interferometer array consisting of five parabolic dish antennas has been set up at Cachoeira
Paulista (longitude 45°0′20″ W, latitude 22°41′19″ S) for observations of the Sun and some of the strong sidereal sources
by the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE), Brazil. This is Phase-I of the proposed Brazilian Decimetric Array
and can be operated at any frequency in the range 1.2 – 1.7 GHz. The instrument has been in operation since November 2004
onwards at 1.6 GHz. The angular and temporal resolutions at this frequency are ∼3′ and 100 ms, respectively. Details of the
array, analog/digital receiver system, and a preliminary East – West one-dimensional solar image at the 1.6 GHz are presented

Tropical cyclones are the most hazardous weather systems, which form over warm ocean waters. The frequencies of tropical cyclones show variabilities over all the oceanic basins, during the El-Niño and El-Niño Modoki years. Recent studies have shown significant impact of air–sea interaction processes like El-Niño and El-Niño Modoki on the cyclone activity over different ocean basins. The results suggest in most cases, El-Niño events suppress the formation of cyclones over various basins. A recent study indicated that concurrent occurrence of El-Niño Modoki and positive Indian Ocean dipole (IOD) events can generate more cyclones over north-west Pacific. We propose to study the impact of El-Niño Modoki events on the formation of tropical cyclones over north Indian Ocean (NIO). Our present study suggests that the cyclogenesis over the NIO is a complex phenomenon, as it is influenced by several coupled ocean atmospheric phenomena such as El-Niño, El-Niño Modki, IOD and Madden–Julian oscillation. 相似文献

Assessment of groundwater inflows into Kuteshwar Limestone Mines through flow modeling study, Madhya Pradesh, India 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The development of limestone mining activities in Katni, Madhya Pradesh becomes necessary to increase the depth of exploration to produce ore. Increase in the exploration depth means that mining pits were subjected to water inrush. A hydrological and a hydrogeological model for the Katni area have been developed using USGS flow code, MODFLOW 2000. Collected GIS-based information was synthesized in a finite difference numerical model. The regional steady flow was calibrated under pre-development conditions assuming an equivalent porous medium approach. Water budget calculations show that the total groundwater flow into the aquifer system due to interaction with river amounts to 14,783 m3/day. Infiltration from precipitation provides 1,600 m3/day of the groundwater supply, while 1,446 m3/day comes from lateral inflow and the remaining. The inflows into mine pit area amounts to 15,725 m3/day. Although the karstic nature of the limestone aquifer the equivalent porous medium flow model is appropriate to represent hydraulic heads and recharge/discharge relationships on a regional scale. The results of this study can be used to predict the required amounts of pumping and the possible locations to dewater the groundwater in the mining pits. 相似文献

Landslides are the most common natural disaster in hilly terrain which causes changes in landscape and damage to life and property. The main objective of the present study was to carry out landslide hazard zonation mapping on 1:50,000 scale along ghat road section of Kolli hills using a Landslide Hazard Evaluation Factor(LHEF) rating scheme. The landslide hazard zonation map has been prepared by overlaying the terrain evaluation maps with facet map of the study area. The terrain evaluation maps include lithology, structure, slope morphometry, relative relief, land use and land cover and hydrogeological condition. The LHEF rating scheme and the Total Estimated Hazard(TEHD) were calculated as per the Bureau of Indian Standard(BIS) guidelines(IS: 14496(Part-2) 1998) for the purpose of preparation of Landslide Hazard Zonation(LHZ) map in mountainous terrains. The correction due to triggering factors such as seismicity, rainfall and anthropogenic activities were also incorporated with Total Estimated Hazard to get final corrected TEHD. The landslide hazard zonation map was classified as the high, moderate and low hazard zones along the ghat road section based on corrected TEHD. 相似文献

AbstractBasic hidden Markov models are very useful in stochastic environmental research but their ability to accommodate sufficient dependence between observations is somewhat limited. However, they can be modified in several ways to form a rich class of flexible models that are useful in many environmental applications. We consider a class of hidden Markov models that incorporate additional dependence among observations to model average regional rainfall time series. The focus of the study is on models that introduce additional dependence between the state level and the observation level of the process and also on models that incorporate dependence at observation level. Construction of the likelihood function of the models is described along with the usual second-order properties of the process. The maximum likelihood method is used to estimate the parameters of the models. Application of the proposed class of models is illustrated in an analysis of daily regional average rainfall time series from southeast and southwest England for the winter season during 1931 to 2010. Models incorporating additional dependence between the state level and the observation level of the process captured the distributional properties of the daily rainfall well, while the models that incorporate dependence at the observation level showed their ability to reproduce the autocorrelation structure. Physical oceanography measurements reveal a strong salinity (0.18 psu km?1) and temperature (0.07 °C km?1) front off the east coast of India in December 1997. T–S diagrams suggest lateral mixing between the fresh water at the coast and the ambient warmer, saltier water. This front seems to be the result of southward advection of fresh and cool water, formed in the northern Bay of Bengal during the monsoon, by the East Indian Coastal Current, as suggested by the large-scale salinity structure in the SODA re-analysis and the anti-cyclonic gyre in the northwestern Bay of Bengal during winter. The data further reveals an offshore front in January, which appears to be the result of a meso-scale re-circulation around an eddy, bringing cold and freshwater from the northern Bay of Bengal further away from the shore. Our cruise data hence illustrates that very strong salinity fronts can appear in the Bay of Bengal after the monsoon, as a result of intense coastal circulation and stirring by eddies. 相似文献

We place constraints on the dynamics of the Local Group (LG) by comparing the dipole of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) with the peculiar velocity induced by the Two Micron All-Sky Redshift Survey galaxy sample. The analysis is limited by the lack of surveyed galaxies behind the zone of avoidance (ZoA). We therefore allow for a component of the LG velocity due to unknown mass concentrations behind the ZoA, as well as for an unknown transverse velocity of the Milky Way relative to the Andromeda galaxy. We infer extra motion along the direction of the Galactic Centre (where Galactic confusion and dust obscuration peaks) at the 95 per cent significance level. With a future survey of the ZoA it might be possible to constrain the transverse velocity of the Milky Way relative to Andromeda. 相似文献
