The transition energies responsible for optical absorption spectra can be obtained by crystal-field analysis, but the transition
intensities are notoriously difficult to calculate. This paper examines the basic ingredients of the calculation of optical
spectrum intensities. Magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole transitions intensities are evaluated, as well as the direct
d(Ni2+) to p(O2−) electric dipole transitions. All these contributions are shown to be small in the optical range, so that spectral intensities
are due to the mixing of odd orbitals with the Ni2+ 3d
n
states.

Many barred disc galaxies show rings of gas clouds and young stars thought to be in periodic orbits near the two-fold inner and outer Lindblad resonances (ILR and OLR) plus a four-fold ultraharmonic resonance (UHR) of the turning bar with oscillations about the disc orbital motion. To confirm and extend simulations by Schwarz and by Byrd et al. of resonance ring formation, we present an analytical formulation of the clouds' orbital motion which includes dissipative damping of oscillations relative to the local interstellar medium plus the rotation curve, bar pattern speed, and strength. Observed ring morphology matches our plots of periodic orbits where the density is enhanced but clouds do not collide violently. Pairs of 'outer rings' bracket the OLR. Dimpled outer rings like that of ESO 507-16 can be matched by plots with strong bars. Slightly dimpled outer rings like that of ESO 509-98 can be matched by weak bar plots. For flat rotation curves, a pair of two-fold rings bracket the ILR; the smaller can be identified with the tiny 'nuclear rings'. We find narrow UHR rings just outside this pair as well as just inside the OLR pair. We confirm the identification of the larger ILR ring and the inner UHR ring with 'inner rings'. Disagreeing with the common identification, we associate the dimpled outer rings with the UHR just inside the OLR. See ESO 507-16 as an example. We predict that damping can misalign the ILR and OLR rings relative to the bar as seen in our match to ESO 507-16. We find that for weak bars, if the linearly rising portion of the rotation curve is a significant fraction of the corotation radius, nuclear and inner rings are absent with outer rings still present. We show this in a match to ESO 509-98. Success of the matches to ESO 507-16 and 509-98 shows how the analytic formulation can be used to estimate disc orientation and pattern speed if rotation curve observations are available. 相似文献

57Fe Mössbauer spectra of iron bearing alumino-silicate glasses are analysed by two complementary methods (SID and x-VBF) especially adapted for the analysis of disordered systems by taking into account distributions of hyperfine Mössbauer parameters. Qualitative and quantitative information about the oxidation state of iron are obtained as well as information about the distribution of local environments of iron. The possibility to separate the signal of ferric iron from that of ferrous iron allows to derive precise redox ratio in favourable cases but also to analyse more sharply the different contributions to Mössbauer spectra. Using two different glass series (feldspar composition, haplo-tonalitic composition), the characteristics of the two methods are described and employed to study the effect of composition, water incorporation and oxidation state on the glass structure. Optical absorption spectroscopy is used to support the interpretation of the Mössbauer spectra in case of the feldspar glasses. 相似文献

The seismic quality of traditional timber structures, as those supporting roofs in old buildings, mostly depends on the condition of their connections. A research program has investigated the behavior of old timber joints and examined retrofitting criteria. The main parameters affecting the mechanical behavior of the connection have been singled out and their effects quantified by means of experimentation and numerical analysis. A synthetic model of the cyclic behavior has been formulated, implemented in a finite element format, and used in the analysis of timber structures in seismic conditions. The model has been verified with full-scale experimentation on a roof truss. Different reinforcing methods have been compared on the basis of experimental observation and calculated structural response. The study has shown that a satisfactory post-elastic response, comparable to that of new structures, may be reached for suitably retrofitted structures. 相似文献

Determination of polychlorobiphenyl congeners (PCBs) in the surface water of the Venice lagoon 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the degree of PCB contamination of Venice lagoon water. The PCB determination was made on the filtrate ("dissolved PCBs") and on the particulate collected on the filters ("particulate PCBs") by continuous liquid-liquid extraction and sonication, respectively, and by HRGC-LRMS analysis. An estimation of the procedural and "working" blanks was also made. Water samples were collected at six sites, selected to represent all the pollution situations present in the lagoon, and at a site in the Adriatic Sea. The range of the total sum ("dissolved plus particulate") of 49 congener concentrations falls between 355 and 1868 pgl(-1); the "dissolved" fraction concentrations (250-792 pgl(-1)) are greater at six sites than that of the "particulate" fraction (105-1273 pgl(-1)). Chemometric analyses suggest that the PCB congener pattern in the Venice Lagoon is different from that in the Adriatic Sea. 相似文献
