This research is continuation of the investigation of metal accumulation in native and transplanted moss Pleurozium schreberi in the most industrialized and affected region in Poland (Upper Silesia). We tested the hypotheses that in Upper Silesia transplants of P. schreberi may be used in a 90 days bioindication experiment in case native specimens are absent; a 90 days exposure of transplanted P. schreberi was long enough for evaluation of Hg pollution of the environment. An assay was carried out with native mosses at 27 polluted sites and mosses from an uncontaminated control site transplanted to the same 27 polluted sites. P. schreberi collected from the same sites as classified for more and less polluted basing on Pb and Zn concentrations show quite different pattern of pollution with mercury; The accumulation of Hg by the transplants increased much faster in the first 45 days of the experiment (accumulation factor 1.5–6.7; mean 3.4?±?0.5) in comparison with the second period from day 45 to 90 (accumulation factor 1.0–1.6; mean 1.2?±?0.1). The 90 days exposure of transplanted P. schreberi was long enough for evaluation of Hg pollution of the environment. We used two different methods of statistical analysis—cluster analysis and principal component analysis—to analyze the concentrations of principal chemical components (Si, Mg, Ca, Fe, Ni) and Co in ordinary chondrites. The analysis is based predominantly on published data (metadata). In total, chemical composition data from 646 ordinary chondrites were used in the statistical analysis. The aim of this analysis was to establish whether it would be possible or not to distinguish H, L, and LL chondrites based on the concentrations of major elements and Co in their bulk chemical compositions. It was also important to determine what conclusions such an analysis could enable to draw about matter differentiation in the formation environments of primordial parent bodies of particular ordinary chondrite groups (H, L, and LL). Another aim of the statistical analysis was to determine whether the distribution of Fe and Ni (with Co admixtures) is independent of petrographic types within particular groups of chondrites. This is of crucial importance for determining the distribution of FeNi(Co) ore occurrences in potential extraterrestrial deposits on modern asteroids—the sources of ordinary chondrites. The obtained results of statistical analyses confirmed that a clear-cut distinction between particular groups of ordinary chondrites is only possible for group H, while distinguishing L chondrites from LL chondrites is not always obvious. The results of the statistical analyses relating to the question of the possible existence of several primordial parent bodies (formation environments) of each group of ordinary chondrites are consistent with the results of contemporary astronomical spectroscopy research. What is particularly interesting is obtaining indications of the existence of common formation environments of the matter of L and LL chondrites, possibly on a few primordial parent bodies. The statistical analyses indicate that there is no correlation between the concentration of principal chemical components and the petrographic type of ordinary chondrites. This proves homogenous distributions of these elements within the parent bodies of each group of ordinary chondrites. Depth filtration is still one of the most important water treatment processes. It remains difficult to model mathematically because of the complexity of the process and the impact of numerous suspension parameters. The shape of the grains and suspension particles or flocs are among these parameters. The results of theoretical calculations suggest their visible impact on filtration. The shape of the media grain is relatively easy to measure. The shapes of the flocs or suspension particles, which are commonly not perfectly spherical, are much more difficult to predict. However, a few apparatuses developed lasting recent years make this possible. The FPIA 3000, manufactured by Malvern Instruments, uses flow particle image analysis method to measure 26 shape parameters of the suspension particles. Experimental measurement of suspension particle shape after flocculation and after depth filtration has allowed us to answer the question regarding the possible application of this measuring technique in water filtration technology. The experiments have also provided us with detailed information about the shape of flocs and suspension particles in filtered water. High number of particles characterized by circularity lower than 0.8 was detected in flocculated water inflowing to the filter. The particles remained in the outflow was characterized by visibly higher circularity than the particles inflowing to the filter. The results revealed much better removal of the particles characterized by lower circularity during filtration, whereas relation between convexity of the particles and their removal efficiency was not so evident. 相似文献

The influence of the sediment’s physico-chemical properties and black carbon content, on the distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyls in benthic sediments of the Gulf of Gdansk (Baltic Sea) was determined. Sediments from port, marine dump site of dredged spoils, the Vistula river mouth, Gdansk Deep were selected.The concentrations of ∑PAHs (fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo(a)anthracene, benzo(k)fluoranthene, benzo(a)pyrene, dibenzo(ah)anthracene, benzo(ghi)perylene) were 294-2200 ng/g d.w. and for ∑PCBs (28, 52, 101, 118, 138, 153, 180) were 2.4-11.3 ng/g d.w.The sediments content of loss on ignition was 1.13-16.15%, total organic carbon was 0.89-7.15%, black carbon was 0.20-1.15%. The highest correlation coefficient values (r = 0.76-0.92, p < 0.05) for a relationship between the concentrations of organic pollutants, and organic matter, organic and black carbon contents were obtained in harbor sediments with low content of organic matter (<5%) and high share of black carbon in total carbon (up to 40%). 相似文献

As has been demonstrated in recent years, the heterogeneities of coeval magmas can be more successfully revealed by zoned
megacrysts rather than by analysis of the whole rocks hosting them. Here, the geochemical heterogeneities of feldspar megacrysts
from the Karkonosze granite, Poland, are investigated by LA-ICP-MS. The crystals are the product of migration and growth in
regions of poorly mixed magmas. 3D-modeling of the Ba, Sr, and Rb distributions emphasizes the importance of micro-domain
growth morphologies. Two models of element behavior—a relative concentration model and a composition gradient model—provide
a potentially effective tool for tracking the mixing process on a microscale. Measured concentrations of elements of different
mobilities do not agree with what might be expected from the mixing of two end-member magmas. If mixing was the only process
occurring, linear correlations between the concentrations of any two elements should be observed; this, however, is not the
case. For combinations of any two of the three elements, modeling reveals differing non-linear correlations between concentrations.
The megacryst heterogeneities provide an insight into how mixing magmas are chaotically advected to growing crystals and the

The thermodynamical stability of a newly observed wadsleyite II phase in the Mg2SiO4 system is studied by the density functional theory. The wadsleyite II equation of state has been derived. The phase boundaries of Mg2SiO4 polymorphs: wadsleyite, wadsleyite II and ringwoodite are studied using the quasi-harmonic approximation at high external pressures. Clapeyron slopes determined for wadsleyite II–ringwoodite and wadsleyite–wadsleyite II boundaries are 0.0047 and 0.0058 GPa/K, respectively. It is shown that the wadsleyite II phase is not thermodynamically preferred in the pure Mg2SiO4 system and will probably not occur between wadsleyite and ringwoodite phases. 相似文献

The earthquake of magnitude M L = 3:8 (EMSC) took place on Friday, 6 January 2012, north-east of the town of Jarocin in Wielkopolska Region, Poland. The only historical information about past earthquakes in the region was found in the diary from 1824; apart of it, there was a seismic event noticed in the vicinity of Wielkopolska in 1606 (Pagaczewski 1982). The scope of this paper is to describe the 6 January 2012 event in view of instrumental seismology, macroseismic data analysis and known tectonics of the region, which should be useful in future seismic hazard analysis of Poland. 相似文献
