Deep saline aquifers still remain a significant option for the disposal of large amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere as a means of mitigating global climate change. The small scale Carbon Capture and Sequestration demonstration project in Ordos Basin, China, operated by the Shenhua Group, is the only one of its kind in Asia, to put the multilayer injection technology into practice. This paper aims at studying the influence of temperature, injection rate and horizontal boundary effects on CO2 plume transport in saline formation layers at different depths and thicknesses, focusing on the variations in CO2 gas saturation and mass fraction of dissolved CO2 in the formation of brine in the plume’s radial three-dimensional field around the injection point, and interlayer communication between the aquifer and its confining beds of relatively lower permeability. The study uses the ECO2N module of TOUGH2 to simulate flow and pressure configurations in response to small-scale CO2 injection into multilayer saline aquifers. The modelling domain involves a complex multilayer reservoir–caprock system, comprising of a sequence of sandstone aquifers and sealing units of mudstone and siltstone layers extending from the Permian Shanxi to the Upper Triassic Liujiagou formation systems in the Ordos Basin. Simulation results indicate that CO2 injected for storage into deep saline aquifers cause a significant pressure perturbation in the geological system that may require a long duration in the post-injection period to establish new pressure equilibrium. The multilayer simultaneous injection scheme exhibits mutual interference with the intervening sealing layers, especially when the injection layers are very close to each other and the corresponding sealing layers are thin. The study further reveals that injection rate and temperature are the most significant factors for determining the lateral and vertical extent that the CO2 plume reaches and which phase and amount will exist at a particular time during and after the injection. In general, a large number of factors may influence the CO2–water fluid flow system considering the complexity in the real geologic sequence and structural configurations. Therefore, optimization of a CO2 injection scheme still requires pursuance of further studies.  相似文献

Southeast Asia has had both volcanic tsunamis and possesses some of the most densely populated, economically important and rapidly developing coastlines in the world. This contribution provides a review of volcanic tsunami hazard in Southeast Asia. Source mechanisms of tsunami related to eruptive and gravitational processes are presented, together with a history of past events in the region. A review of available data shows that many volcanoes are potentially tsunamigenic and present often neglected hazard to the rapidly developing coasts of the region. We highlight crucial volcanic provinces in Indonesia, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea and propose strategies for facing future events.  相似文献

There is growing recognition among political ecologists of the need to examine shifting natural resource regimes and their effects on livelihoods in “First World” places. This emerging literature has variously examined the “Third World within,” the persistence of “subsistence activities” in the “First World,” and the “reterritorialization” of land tenure and access. However, much of this work has tended to focus on traditional extractive industries in the American West, indigenous claims to lands and resources in the U.S. and Canada, and non-timber resources on public lands. In contrast, we use a case study of African-American sweetgrass basket-makers, associated with the Gullah culture, in South Carolina’s lowcountry to examine the ways in which ongoing amenity-driven residential development is fundamentally reshaping resource access on private lands. Historically, basket-makers harvested the materials (primarily sweetgrass or Mulenbergia filipes) needed for their culturally important art form from accessible, rural, and privately held tracts of land in close proximity to their communities, but development pressures and changes in resident interpretation of property rights has decreased access to basket-making resources. The case is particularly illuminating, as it examines the emergence of ‘conservation subdivisions’ in the region and raises important questions about what “rural uses” and users are being conserved through responses to exurban, suburban, and urban development in formerly rural areas.  相似文献

Recent mapping and seismic survey reveal that intensive compression during the Early Cenozoic in the Qiangtang block of the central Tibetan Plateau formed an extensive complex of thrust sheets that moved relatively southward along several generally north-dipping great thrust systems. Those at the borders of the ~450 km wide block show it overrides the Lhasa block to the south and is overridden by the Hohxil-Bayanhar block to the north. The systems are mostly thin-skinned imbricate thrusts with associated folding. The thrust sheets are chiefly floored by Jurassic limestone that apparently slid over Triassic sandstone and shale, which is locally included, and ramped upward and over Paleocene-Eocene red-beds. Some central thrusts scooped deeper and carried up Paleozoic metamorphic rock, Permian carbonate and granite to form a central uplift that divides the Qiangtang block into two parts. These systems and their associated structures are unconformably overlain by little deformed Late Eocene-Oligocene volcanic rock or capped by Miocene lake beds. A thrust system in the northern part of the block, as well as one in the northern part of the adjacent Lhasa block, dip to the south and appear to be due to secondary adjustments within the thrust sheets. The relative southward displacement across this Early Cenozoic mega thrust system is in excess of 150 km in the Qiangtang block, and the average southward slip-rate of the southern Qiangtang thrusts ranged from 5.6 mm to 7.4 mm/a during the Late Eocene-Oligocene. This Early Cenozoic thrusting ended before the Early Miocene and was followed by Late Cenozoic crustal extension and strike-slip faulting within the Qiangtang block. The revelation and understanding of these thrust systems are very important for the evaluation of the petroleum resources of the region.  相似文献

Some contacts between interlayered marbles and amphibolites at the Arinteiro copper mine are associated with zoned metasomatic calc-silicate assemblages. Textures indicate that formation of the calc-silicate zones involved mass transfer over distances up to 15 cm and that pore fluid solution (infiltration) may have been a significant reaction mechanism. The sequence of minerals is very similar to previously described products of metasomatic interactions between marbles and pelites. Similar metasomatic processes involving primary concentrations of carbonates can be invoked to explain the common occurrence of zoned calc-silicate patches and folia in metaigneous amphibolites both near Arinteiro and in other terrains.  相似文献

Diopside-rich, skarn-hosted, copper–gold ore derived primarily from carbonaceous metapelites at Mount Elliott forms a distinctive member of the spectrum of Cu–Au–(Fe oxide) deposit styles in the Cloncurry district of the Paleoproterozoic to Mesoproterozoic Mount Isa Block. The mine sequence is a package of carbonaceous metapelites and metagreywackes containing amphibolites derived from tholeiitic basic rocks. A 40Ar–39Ar age spectrum with an extensive plateau-like segment at 1,510 ± 3 Ma from an actinolite associated with sulfides is taken to represent the age of mineralization and is identical within error to the ages of most of the nearby batholithic granitoids. The mine sequence is locally intruded by 1- to 10-m-thick late- to post-tectonic trachyandesite dykes, which were emplaced during the hydrothermal activity that created the orebodies and have affinities with the regional high potassium “Eureka” supersuite granitoids. Stable isotope data are consistent with dominantly magmatic fluids during mineralization and the regionally distinctive skarn (Ca–Mg) and Cu–Au–Ni–Co–Te–Se (low Pb–Zn–Ag–Sb) chalcophile element associations may reflect a primitive magmatic fluid source and/or leaching of these elements from country rocks. Mount Elliott is an unusual skarn deposit characterized by pronounced early albitization (K–Fe–Mg depletion) of the host rocks succeeded by predominantly open-space deposition of sodic diopside ± actinolite ± scapolite ± andradite ± magnetite ± sulfides ± apatite ± allanite ± tourmaline ± calcite. The Ca–Fe–Mg(–Na)-rich (manganese-poor) chemistry was imposed from the fluid phase in the absence of carbonate-rich protoliths. Immobile trace element (Ti, Zr, Nb) geochemistry shows that Mount Elliott skarns formed in both metasedimentary and mafic metavolcanic host rocks, but the former are the main hosts of ore in upper and lower ore zones that represent most of the resource. Banded skarns derived from a distinct calc-silicate/marble package at the nearby SWAN prospect have higher Nb/TiO2 and Zr/TiO2 ratios than the Mount Elliott metasediment-derived skarns, consistent with different provenance of the detrital components in the two sequences. Medium- to coarse-grained massive skarn and skarn breccia in the Mount Elliott lower ore zone formed in pelites and the trachyandesite dykes are the only intrusive rocks that could be genetically related to the mineralization in the immediate vicinity of the orebodies. 中国广东沿岸作为一个冰川均衡调整(GIA)“远场”地区,按照水动型均衡理论,应存在全新世中期高海平面.本文通过海平面标志物重建了广东古海平面的历史,结果显示出在粤东、粤西与珠江三角洲的海平面历史存在明显的差异.若将海平面历史与GIA模型结果对比,可以看出广东沿岸在全新世以来具有微小的区域性地壳沉降.这种大区域的沉降可归因于华南陆块向南延伸所引起.此外,粤西雷州半岛因新构造运动,于全新世早中期有轻微抬升.珠江三角洲盆地则因断裂构造沉降和沉积物压实作用,重建的中全新世海平面明显低于GIA结果.  相似文献

The vesicomyid Calyptogena kilmeri is one of the most abundant bivalves inhabiting chemosynthetic environments shallower than c. 1500 m along central California. We estimated the population size structure, biomass, rates of individual growth, somatic production, and mortality for C. kilmeri, based on sampling of seep habitats and tag–recapture studies at chemosynthetic communities in Monterey Bay, California. The composite growth rate of C. kilmeri over all sites was relatively high (K = 0.25), reaching c. 80% of asymptotic length (104.7 mm) in 6.6 years. The density of C. kilmeri was estimated as 938.5 ind. m−2 and biomass density varied from 704 to 2059 g ash free dry mass (AFDM) m−2. Somatic production was also high (294–297 g·AFDM·m−2 year−1), and production/biomass ratios for C. kilmeri varied from 0.14 to 0.42 among sites, related to variation in size–frequency distributions among sites. Instantaneous mortality rates estimated from size distributions ranged from 0.17 to 0.24 year−1. Growth and somatic production by C. kilmeri are in the range reported for chemosynthetic bivalves from hydrothermal vent and seep habitats, as well as photosynthetic‐based assemblages of inshore or intertidal bivalves, and greatly exceed rates reported for heterotrophic deep‐sea benthos.  相似文献
