The integrated studies of the particulate matter and organic compounds in the surface waters and the snow-ice cover by means of geochemical (the concentrations of the particulate matter, the Corg, the hydrocarbons, the lipids, and the chlorophyll a) and optical techniques were performed in the Southern Ocean and in the east of the Atlantic Ocean along the vessel’s route: Africa-Antarctica-Africa-St. Petersburg. The correlations between the treated compounds were found. It was shown that the supply of pollutants affects not only the concentrations but also the proportions of the considered compounds. New data were obtained on the processes of the accumulation of particulate matter and organic compounds under the ice formation.  相似文献

The diurnal variations in the amplitude and parameters of polarization ellipses of the first Schumann resonance according to three magnetic field components, observed on December 1–10, 2007, at the Barentsburg and Lovozero observatories, have been studied. Ellipses have been constructed in the (H, D) and (H, Z) planes. The value of the minor axis, inclination of the major axis, ellipticity, and the rotation direction have been estimated. The vertical magnetic component of the Schumann resonance is three to four times as small as the horizontal component. The difference in the diurnal variations in the ellipse parameters between both observatories has been found. The effect can be caused by a difference in the Earth’s conductivity in the vicinity of the observatories and by conductivity anisotropy. The major axis inclination and ellipticity have semidiurnal components. The polarization vector mostly rotates from D to H in the horizontal plane and from Z to H in the vertical plane at both stations.  相似文献

The state of radioactive pollution of Lake Ladoga has been studied. The purification half-life of lake water from 90Sr was found to be 21.7 year. The ratio of 90Sr storage in lake water volume to its storage in silts (0?C10 cm layer) was 2: 1. Lake water purification from global 137Cs was slower than that from 137Cs originating from Chernobyl emergency emission because of the chronic supplement of global 137Cs reserve by atmospheric fallouts. The behavior of 90Sr, 137Cs, and 239,240Pu in bed soils was in agreement with the geochemical nature of the elements. By the distribution of 239, 240Pu in bed soils, the sedimentation of substances of non-radiation nature was estimated at 0.3 and 0.5 mm/year at denting and flat relief, respectively.  相似文献

Energetic constraints on precipitation are useful for understanding the response of the hydrological cycle to ongoing climate change, its response to possible geoengineering schemes, and the limits on precipitation in very warm climates of the past. Much recent progress has been made in quantifying the different forcings and feedbacks on precipitation and in understanding how the transient responses of precipitation and temperature might differ qualitatively. Here, we introduce the basic ideas and review recent progress. We also examine the extent to which energetic constraints on precipitation may be viewed as radiative constraints and the extent to which they are confirmed by available observations. Challenges remain, including the need to better demonstrate the link between energetics and precipitation in observations and to better understand energetic constraints on precipitation at sub-global length scales.  相似文献

The epicenter field of earthquakes that occur in the Baikal Rift System (BRS) was analyzed to identify certain areas that have stable concentrations of seismic events; these are reflections (in time) of deformable earthquake-generating volumes in the tectonosphere, or earthquake-generating structures. The patterns that are identifiable in the interrelationships and interactions of earthquake-generating structures as found by analysis of the space-time characteristics of the seismic process characterize the present-day dynamics of the BRS. Time series of earthquake-generating structures were analyzed for the 1964?C2002 period using the following parameters: the number of earthquakes (N) and the logarithm of total energy released by the earthquakes (log Esum). The tool was frequency-time analysis (FTAN), which revealed dominant periodic components in the seismic process for each earthquake-generating structure. We also used correlation analysis based on the parameter N to determine the order of activation for the earthquake-generating structures and to identify periods of synchronization in the seismic process.  相似文献

The results of investigating the data of stationary and field observations in the epicentral zone of the Kultuk earthquake of August 27, 2008 with M w = 6.3 localized south of Baikal are presented. The seismic activation amounting to 1790 aftershocks with K p ?? 4 (M w ?? 0.9) affected a part of the general fault bounding the southwestern coast of the lake and shallower intrabasin structures. It was established through the cluster analysis that the main shock was located at the periphery of the cloud of the concentrated seismicity component, and three main clusters reflecting a complex character of rupture in the earthquake source were identified in the zone of aftershocks. Owing to a high accuracy of aftershock hypocenters determinations (ERZ ?? 1.2 km), the local character of the seismisity-generating zones was revealed. Based on the method of mapping seismic regime parameters, it was established that zones of reduced fractionality are recognizable in the central part of the source area; in this case, the entire periphery, except for the southeastern direction (where the main shock epicenter is located), is characterized by a high fractionality, which also points to the complex character of the rupture in the source. On the whole, the aftershock sequence under consideration showed the activation of the southwestern flank of the Southern Baikal region, which remained passive for more than one century, and demonstrated destructive features of the Earth??s crust.  相似文献

The underwater vocalizations of the beluga whale summering in Onega Bay (64°24′N, 35°49′E) were recorded in June–July of 2008. The vocalizations were classified into five major whistle types, four types of pulsed tones, click series, and noise vocalizations. To determine the relationship between the behavioral activity and the underwater vocalizations, a total of fifty-one 2 minute-long samples of the audio records were analyzed in the next six behavioral contexts: directional movements, quiet swimming, resting, social interactions, individual hunting behavior, and the exploration of hydrophones by beluga whales. The overall vocalization rate and the percentage of the main types of signals depend on the behavior of the belugas. We suggest that one of the whistle types (the “stereotype whistle”) is used by belugas for long-distance communications, while other whistle types (with the exception of “squeaks”) and three types of pulsed tones (with the exception of “vowels”) are used for short distance communication. The percentage of “squeaks” and “vowels” was equally high in all the behavioral situations. Thus, we assume that “squeaks” are contact signals. “Vowels” have a specific physical structure and probably play a role in identification signals. A high rate of the click series was observed in the process of social interactions.  相似文献

Thermal measurements and hydrate mapping in the vicinity of the K-2 mud volcano in Lake Baikal have revealed a particular type of association of thermal anomalies (29–121?mW?m–2) near hydrate-forming layers. Detailed coring within K-2 showed that hydrates are restricted to two distinct zones at sub-bottom depths exceeding 70–300?cm. Temperature data from stations with hydrate recovery and degassing features all display low thermal gradients. Otherwise, the thermal gradients within the mud volcano are generally increased. These findings imply a more complicated thermal regime than often assumed for mud volcanoes, with important roles for both fluids and hydrates. The coexistence of neighbouring low and high thermal anomalies is interpreted to result from discharging and recharging fluid activity, rather than hydrate thermodynamics. It is suggested that hydrates play a key role in controlling the fluid circulation pattern at an early stage. At a later stage, the inflow of undersaturated lake water would favour the dissolution of structure I hydrates and the formation of structure II hydrates, the latter having been observed on top of structure I hydrates in the K-2 mud volcano.  相似文献

Methane bubble fluxes in gas flares from bottom sediments in Lake Baikal were estimated for the first time using hydroacoustic methods. Earlier work has demonstrated the occurrence of gas seeps both inside and outside of areas where bottom simulating reflectors were identified in seismic profiles. Fluxes ranged from 14 to 216 tons per year, with the flux for the entire area of the central and southern basins ranging from 1,400 to 2,800 tons per year. Comparison with other water bodies showed that fluxes from the most intensive Baikal flares were similar to those in the Norwegian and Okhotsk seas. Gas hydrates decompose at the lower boundary of the gas hydrate stability zone due to sedimentation. Calculation of the amount of methane produced due to sedimentation gave a total of between 2,600 and 14,000 tons per year for the central and southern basins of the lake. Based on rough estimation, the total flux from shallow- and deep-water gas seeps is similar to the amount of methane produced due to sedimentation. This suggests that gas hydrates possibly occupy much more than 10?% of the pore volume near the base of the gas hydrate stability zone, or that there are other reasons for gas hydrate dissociation and bubble flux from these bottom sediments.  相似文献

We compute model spectra of the beam attenuation coefficient in surface waters of the Mediterranean Sea. These spectra are used to determine the contribution of the components of seawater (suspended matter, yellow substance, pigments of phytoplankton, and pure water) to the beam attenuation coefficient in different types of seawater. For the surface waters, we establish the relationship between the light scattering coefficient and the attenuation coefficient at a wavelength of 547 nm and determine the background (limiting minimum) value of the coefficient of absorption by the yellow substance in waters of the Mediterranean Sea. It is compared with the values of the same parameter for some other basins (Black Sea, Lake Baikal, Baltic Sea, and oceanic waters).  相似文献
