We present the results of our analysis of the RXTE observations for two transient sources, IGR J17091-3624 and IGR J18539+0727, in April 2003. The derived energy spectra of the sources and the power-density spectra of their light curves make it possible to classify them as low/hard-state X-ray binaries. The parameters of the power spectrum for IGR J18539+0727 lead us to tentatively conclude that the compact object in this binary is a black hole. 相似文献

In this paper we show that a change in the signs of some of the metric components of the solution of the field equations for
the classical cosmic string results in a solution which we interpret as a time-dependent wall composed of tachyons. We show
that the walls have the property of focusing the paths of particles which pass through them. As an illustration of this focusing,
we demonstrate the results of a simple simulation of the interaction between one such tachyon wall and a rotating disk of
point masses. This interaction leads to the temporary formation of spiral structures. These spiral structures exist for a
time on the order of one galactic rotation.

Flux pile-up magnetic reconnection is traditionally considered only for incompressible plasmas. The question addressed in this paper is whether the pile-up scalings with resistivity are robust when plasma compressibility is taken into account. A simple analytical argument makes it possible to understand why the transition from a highly compressible limit to the incompressible one is difficult to discern in typical simulations spanning a few decades in resistivity. From a practical standpoint, however, flux pile-up reconnection in a compressible plasma can lead to anomalous electric resistivity in the current sheet and flare-like energy release of magnetic energy in the solar corona. 相似文献

The present-day chemical and dynamical properties of the Milky Way are signatures of the Galaxy's formation and evolution.
Using a self consistent chemodynamical evolution code we examine these properties within the currently favoured paradigm for
galaxy formation – hierarchical clustering within a CDM cosmology. Our Tree N-body/Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics code includes
a self-consistent treatment of gravity, hydrodynamics, radiative cooling, star formation, supernova feedback and chemical
enrichment. Two models are described which explore the role of small-scale density perturbations in driving the evolution
of structure within the Milky Way. The relationship between metallicity and kinematics of halo stars are quantified and the
implications for galaxy formation discussed. While high-eccentricity halo stars have previously been considered a signature
of `rapid collapse', we suggest that many such stars may have come from recently accreted satellites.

Now GIS is turning into a good tool in handling geographical, economical, and population data, so we can obtain more and more information from these data. On the other hand, in some cases, for a calamity, such as hurricane, earthquake, flood, drought etc., or a decision-making, such as setting up a broadcasting transmitter, building a chemical plant etc., we have to evaluate the total population in the region influenced by a calamity or a project. In this paper, a method is put forward to evaluate the population in such special region. Through exploring the correlation of geographical parameters and the distribution of people in the same region by means of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, unit population database (1km× 1km) is established. In this way, estimating the number of people in a special region is capable by adding up the population in every grid involved in this region boundary. We compare the systematics of the magnetic field geometry in the `red' low-energy peaked BL Lacs (LBLs) and `blue' high-energy peaked BL Lacs (HBLs) using VLBI polarimetric images. The LBLs are primarily `radio-selected' BL Lacs and the HBLs are primarily `X-ray selected'. In contrast to the LBLs, which show predominantly transverse jet magnetic fields, the HBLs show predominantly longitudinal fields. Thus, while the SED peaks of core-dominated quasars, LBLs and HBLs form a sequence of increasing frequency, the magnetic field geometry does not follow an analogous sequence. We briefly investigate possible connections between the observed parsec-scale magnetic field structures and circular polarization measurements in the literature on various spatial scales. 相似文献

Fred Hoyle undertook a study of observational consequences of the thermonuclear paradigm for the nova event in the years following
his 1972 resignation from Cambridge University. The most fruitful of these have been in the areas of gamma-ray astronomy,
by which one attempts to measure the level of radioactivity in the nova envelope, and of presolar grain studies in laboratories,
by which one measures anomalous isotopic ratios that fingerprint condensation in the thermonuclear event. This work summarizes
progress with these two astronomical measures of the novae.

The magnitude and spatial distribution of snow on sea ice are both integral components of the ocean–sea‐ice–atmosphere system. Although there exists a number of algorithms to estimate the snow water equivalent (SWE) on terrestrial surfaces, to date there is no precise method to estimate SWE on sea ice. Physical snow properties and in situ microwave radiometry at 19, 37 and 85 GHz, V and H polarization were collected for a 10‐day period over 20 first‐year sea ice sites. We present and compare the in situ physical, electrical and microwave emission properties of snow over smooth Arctic first‐year sea ice for 19 of the 20 sites sampled. Physical processes creating the observed vertical patterns in the physical and electrical properties are discussed. An algorithm is then developed from the relationship between the SWE and the brightness temperature measured at 37 GHz (55°) H polarization and the air temperature. The multiple regression between these variables is able to account for over 90% of the variability in the measured SWE. This algorithm is validated with a small in situ data set collected during the 1999 field experiment. We then compare our data against the NASA snow thickness algorithm, designed as part of the NASA Earth Enterprise Program. The results indicated a lack of agreement between the NASA algorithm and the algorithm developed here. This lack of agreement is attributed to differences in scale between the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager and surface radiometers and to differences in the Antarctic versus Arctic snow physical and electrical properties. We study two and three-dimensional resonant periodic orbits, usingthe model of the restricted three-body problem with the Sun andNeptune as primaries. The position and the stability character ofthe periodic orbits determine the structure of the phase space andthis will provide useful information on the stability and longterm evolution of trans-Neptunian objects. The circular planarmodel is used as the starting point. Families of periodic orbitsare computed at the exterior resonances 1/2, 2/3 and 3/4 withNeptune and these are used as a guide to select the energy levelsfor the computation of the Poincaré maps, so that all basicresonances are included in the study. Using the circular planarmodel as the basic model, we extend our study to more realisticmodels by considering an elliptic orbit of Neptune and introducingthe inclination of the orbit. Families of symmetric periodicorbits of the planar elliptic restricted three-body problem andthe three-dimensional problem are found. All these orbitsbifurcate from the families of periodic orbits of the planarcircular problem. The stability of all orbits is studied. Althoughthe resonant structure in the circular problem is similar for allresonances, the situation changes if the eccentricity of Neptuneor the inclination of the orbit is taken into account. All theseresults are combined to explain why in some resonances there aremany bodies and other resonances are empty. 相似文献

In this paper we seek the origin of the axial component of the magnetic field in filaments by adapting theory to observations.
A previous paper (Mackay, Gaizauskas, and van Ballegooijen, 2000) showed that surface flows acting on potential magnetic fields
for 27 days – the maximum time between the emergence of magnetic flux and the formation of large filaments between the resulting
activity complexes – cannot explain the chirality or inverse polarity nature of the observed filaments. We show that the inclusion
of initial helicity, for which there is observational evidence, in the flux transport model results in sufficiently strong
dextral fields of inverse polarity to account for the existence and length of an observed filament within the allotted time.
The simulations even produce a large length of dextral chirality when just small amounts of helicity are included in the initial
configuration. The modeling suggests that the axial field component in filaments can result from a combination of surface
(flux transport) and sub-surface (helicity) effects acting together. Here surface effects convert the large-scale helicity
emerging in active regions into a smaller-scale magnetic-field component parallel to the polarity inversion line so as to
form a magnetic configuration suitable for a filament. 相似文献
