An individual-component approximation (ICA) to the one-dimensional quadratic stress is presented for analysis of hydrodynamic systems that contain multiple-frequency fluid motion such as tidal current and nearshore currents. Criteria governing development of the approximation are accuracy, symmetry, and preservation of contributions (magnitude and direction) of individual and coupled velocity components. Preservation of directionality is required to isolate functioning of individual terms for flow-decomposition analysis. The ICA is compared with the small-amplitude approximation analytically and through numerical examination for two velocity components. The two approximations differ at second order within the range of validity of the small-amplitude approximation. The ICA is exact in the limits of components with large magnitudes and components of equal magnitudes. Based on calculations comparing the exact numerical solution for velocity components with a wide range of relative magnitudes, relative periods, and phase differences, the ICA is accurate except in restricted regions of small-magnitude quadratic velocity. The ICA is generalized to multiple components without restriction on magnitude, period, or phase, and example calculations are given for flows comprised of three components and six components. The method is applied to velocity tidal constituents for Galveston Bay, Texas, and Tampa Bay, Florida.  相似文献

This paper compares and contrasts alternative methods for the construction of discontinuous population surface models based on the census and remotely sensed data from Northern Ireland. Two main methods of population distribution are employed: (1) a method based on redistribution from enumeration district (ED) and postcode centroids, and (2) a method based on dasymetric redistribution of ED population counts to suitable land cover zones from classified remotely sensed imagery. Refinements have been made to the centroid redistribution algorithm to accommodate an empirical measure of dispersion, and to allow redistribution in an anisotropic form. These refinements are evaluated against each other and the dasymetric method. The results suggest that all of the methods perform best in urban areas, and that while the refinements may improve the statistical performance of the models, this is at the expense of reduced spatial detail. In general, the techniques are highly sensitive to the spatial and population resolution of the input data.  相似文献

Type III bursts have been observed in the 30–100 kHz range which show localized enhancements in their spectra. The enhancements exhibited by a series of type III bursts extending over a period of several hours show a consistent decrease in frequency. The rate of this decrease is consistent with the movement of an interplanetary shock. The passage of such a shock by the Earth is suggested by the occurrence of sudden commencements at approximately the expected time.  相似文献

In the contact aureole of the Lilesville granite and comagmatic Pee Dee gabbro, N.C., greenschist-facies phyllites of the Carolina slate belt have been overprinted by a series of metamorphic reactions producing opx-bearing hornfelses and migmatitic gneisses. In the exterior aureole the slate belt assemblage (chl+ms+ep+ab+qz) gives way to the continuous reaction assemblages (chl+bt+cd+ ms+ab±ep+qz), (bt+cd+ms+An8–29+qz), (bt+cd+ kf+ms+pl+qz), (bt+cd+als±ms+kf+pl+qz), and (bt+cd+ga+kf+pl+qz), from lowest to highest grade. The interior aureole, interpreted as part of the floor of the granite, bears the continuous and discontinuous reaction assemblages (bt+cd+als+kf+pl+qz),(bt+cd+kf+ pl+qz), and, near the gabbro, (bt+cd+ga+opx+kf+ pl+qz). The leucosomes of the migmatitic interior aureole are predominantly trondhjemites with the assemblage (An35–45+qz±bt±cd±kf). Restites in the migmatitic interior aureole contain the AFM assemblages (bt), (bt + cd), (bt+cd+als), and (bt+cd+ga), plus kf, An40–50, and qz. Contact metamorphism was isobaric at 4.0–5.1 or 2.0–3.5 kb depending on choice of aluminosilicate triple point; temperatures reached 650° C in the migmatitic interior aureole and approached 750° C near the gabbro; was less than 0.8 in the migmatites, and was lower in the interior aureole and in the high grade exterior aureole. Partial melting in the migmatitic interior aureole took place during dynamothermal metamorphism caused by the magmatic diapir. Incipient melting occurred by the reaction bt+cd+kf+pl+qz+w = liquid. The melt was H2O-undersaturated and coefficients of the reactants were weighted heavily toward the felsic minerals; the proportion of felsic minerals in the leucosomes was controlled in part by modal abundance of kf, pl, and qz available for melting. Nine reference materials, recently distributed by the Geological Survey of Japan (JA-1, JB-la, JB-2, JB-3, JG-la, JGb-1, JP-1, JR-1 and JR-2) have been analysed by instrumental neutron activation analysis using well proven experimental techniques. Results for the twenty elements determined (selected rare earth elements, Fe, Ba, Co, Cr, Cs, Hf, Rb, Sc, Ta, Th and U) are assessed for accuracy and precision and show good agreement with previously published data.  相似文献

DH and 18O16O ratios have been measured for whole-rock samples and mineral separates from the mafic and ultramatic rocks of the Cambro-Ordovician Highland Border Suite. The H- and O- isotopic compositions of these rocks record individual stages in a relatively complex 500 Myr old hydrothermal/metamorphic history. Lizardite serpentinites (δD ~ ? 105‰; δ18O ~ + 6.2‰) record a premetamorphic history and indicate that parent harzburgites, dunites, and pyroxenites were serpentinized through low-temperature interaction with meteoric waters during cooling. The other rocks of the Highland Border Suite record subsequent interaction with metamorphic fluids. Amphibolite facies hornblende schists were produced through thrust-related (dynamothermal) metamorphism of spilitic pillow lavas. During dehydration, D-enriched fluids were driven off from the spilites thus leaving the hornblende schists to equilibrate with a relatively D-depleted internal fluid reservoir (δD ~ ? 45‰). The expelled D-enriched fluids may have mixed with more typical Dalradian metamorphic waters which then exchanged with the remaining mafic rocks and lizardite serpentinites during greenschist facies regional metamorphism to produce antigorite serpentinites (δD ~ ? 62‰; δ18O ~ + 8‰) and greenschist metaspilites (δD ~ ? 57‰; δ18O ~ + 7.3‰) with similar H- and O-isotopic compositions. Serpentinites which have been only partially metamorphosed show intermediate H-isotopic compositions between that of metamorphic antigorite (δD ~ ? 62‰) and non-metamorphic lizardite δD ~ ? 105‰) end members.  相似文献

Core Vema 28-238 preserves an excellent oxygen isotope and magnetic stratigraphy and is shown to contain undisturbed sediments deposited continuously through the past 870,000 yr. Detailed correlation with sequences described by Emiliani in the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean is demonstrated. The boundaries of 22 stages representing alternating times of high and low Northern Hemisphere ice volume are recognized and dated. The record is interpreted in terms of Northern Hemisphere ice accumulation, and is used to estimate the range of temperature variation in the Caribbean.  相似文献

Some 500 microprobe analyses from 43 rock samples, covering the entire range of major and minor intrusive rock-types, define the following ranges of mineral composition: plagioclases (An70-30), alkali feldspars (Or98-20 and Ab90–99), olivines (Fo85-82), clinopyroxenes (aluminous titanaugite through salite and aegirine-augite to acmite), amphiboles (subsilicic kaersutite through pargasite to hastingsite, edenite or katophorite), biotites (titanbiotite to titaniferous manganiferous lepidomelane). Varied discontinuous reaction relationships are evident petrographically between these minerals (e.g. amphibole overgrowths on pyroxenes or biotites), but most appear to reflect reequilibration during slow magmatic cooling, or perhaps local disequilibrium effects, and there is little evidence for significant subsolidus, hydrothermal or deuteric modification of the primary mineralogy.Although these mineral ranges are reasonably typical of differentiated alkaline gabbroic-syenitic intrusions, Monchique also shows many unusual features: e.g. a restricted stability range for olivine, the absence of amphiboles from all rocks with 54<%SiO2<58, a lack of alkali amphiboles corresponding to the acmite-rich pyroxenes, the presence of acmite-poor pyroxenes and aluminous biotites in peralkaline rocks, and irregular Ti variation in biotites. Mineral/ host-rock relationships also show peculiarities: e.g. Mg/ (Mg+Fe) ratios of mafic minerals and An contents of plagioclases increase as host-rock fractionation index (FI) increases from gabbroic (FI 30–40%) to alkali feldspar-bearing essexitic (FI c. 50) rocks. Thereafter, Mg ratios decrease only slightly, such that many malignites and miaskitic syenites (FI 70–90) carry pyroxenes and biotites which are no more, and sometimes less evolved than those in the gabbroic rocks (FI 30–40).Such features confirm earlier suggestions from whole-rock geochemistry, that a major evolutionary process in the complex was a relatively discontinuous segregation of already somewhat evolved essexitic magma into more basic and more felsic magmas, rather than an incremental gabbrosyenite crystal fractionation. They also confirm that the complex represents neither a single in situ differentiating magma pulse, nor a series of simply related pulses, but an irregular and largely irresolvable juxtaposition of magma-batches of widely varying compositions and evolutionary histories.  相似文献
