Real‐time hybrid simulation (RTHS) has increasingly been recognized as a powerful methodology to evaluate structural components and systems under realistic operating conditions. It is a cost effective approach compared with large scale shake table testing. Furthermore, it can maximally preserve rate dependency and nonlinear characteristics of physically tested (non)structural components. Although conceptually very attractive, challenges do exist that require comprehensive validation before RTHS should be employed to assess complicated physical phenomena. One of the most important issues that governs the stability and accuracy of an RTHS is the ability to achieve synchronization of boundary conditions between the computational and physical substructures. The objective of this study is to propose and validate an H loop shaping design for actuator motion control in RTHS. Controller performance is evaluated in the laboratory using a worst‐case substructure proportioning scheme. A modular, one‐bay, one‐story steel moment resisting frame specimen is tested experimentally. Its deformation is kept within the linear range for ready comparison with the reference closed‐form solution. Both system analysis and experimental results show that the proposed H strategy can significantly improve both the stability limit and test accuracy compared with several existing strategies. Another key feature of the proposed strategy is its robust performance in terms of unmodeled dynamics and uncertainties, which inevitably exist in any physical system. This feature is essential to enhance test quality for specimens with nonlinear dynamic behavior, thus ensuring the validity of the proposed approach for more complex RTHS implementations. We report on a survey for narrow (full widths at half-minimum <600 km s−1) C  iv absorption lines in a sample of bright quasars at redshifts  1.8 ≤ z < 2.25  in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Our main goal is to understand the relationship of narrow C  iv absorbers to quasar outflows and, more generally, to quasar environments. We determine velocity zero-points using the broad Mg  ii emission line, and then measure the absorbers' quasar-frame velocity distribution. We examine the distribution of lines arising in quasar outflows by subtracting model fits to the contributions from cosmologically intervening absorbers and absorption due to the quasar host galaxy or cluster environment. We find that a substantial number (  ≥43 ± 6  per cent) of absorbers with   W λ15480 > 0.3  Å in the velocity range  +750 ≲ v ≲+ 12 000  km s−1 are intrinsic to the active galactic nucleus outflow. This 'outflow fraction' peaks near   v =+2000  km s−1 with a value of   f outflow≃ 0.81 ± 0.13  . At velocities below   v ≈+ 2000  km s−1, the incidence of outflowing systems drops, possibly due to geometric effects or to the over-ionization of gas that is nearer the accretion disc. Furthermore, we find that outflow absorbers are on average broader and stronger than cosmologically intervening systems. Finally, we find that ∼14 per cent of the quasars in our sample exhibit narrow, outflowing C  iv absorption with   W λ15480 > 0.3  Å, slightly larger than that for broad absorption line systems.  相似文献

A magnetotelluric acquisition and modelling campaign, comprising 400 full tensor soundings, was carried out in the Sub-Andean Foothills in the area located south of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. The objective of the survey was to improve the imaging of the Paleozoic section and provide insight to the overall structure of the Devonian Silurian complex. The acquired data were inverted assuming both two-dimensional and three-dimensional dimensionality of the subsurface structure, adopting a multi-step iterative workflow, which began applying unconstrained inversion and introduced increasing constraints determined at each following step based on the interpretation of the latest inversion results. The geological interpretation of the final inversion results allowed to better image the expected complexity in the structures, particularly highlighting several different levels of detachment, mainly in the area of Kirusillas Formation. Furthermore, an oblique sense was identified of the main tendency of N-S deformation, related to a dextral transgressional movement that generates discrete dislocations, at a length scale of the order of a few kilometres.  相似文献

Chromites from Middle Ordovician fossil L chondrites and from matrix and shock‐melt veins in Catherwood, Tenham, and Coorara L chondrites were studied using Raman spectroscopy and TEM. Raman spectra of chromites from fossil L chondrites showed similarities with chromites from matrix and shock‐melt veins in the studied L chondrite falls and finds. Chromites from shock‐melt veins of L chondrites show polycrystallinity, while the chromite grains in fossil L chondrites are single crystals. In addition, chromites from shock‐melt veins in the studied L chondrites have high densities of planar fractures within the subgrains and many subgrains show intergrowths of chromite and xieite. Matrix chromite of Tenham has similar dislocation densities and planar fractures as a chromite from the fossil meteorite Golvsten 001 and higher dislocation densities than in chromite from the fossil meteorite Sextummen 003. Using this observation and knowing that the matrix of Tenham experienced 20–22 GPa and <1000° C, an upper limit for the P,T conditions of chromite from Golvsten 001 and Sextummen 003 can be estimated to be 20–22 GPa and 1000° C (shock stage S3–S6) and 20 GPa and 1000° C (S3–S5), respectively, and we conclude that the studied fossil meteorite chromites are from matrix.  相似文献

We report the first combined atom‐probe tomography (APT) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study of a kamacite–tetrataenite (K–T) interface region within an iron meteorite, Bristol (IVA). Ten APT nanotips were prepared from the K–T interface with focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB‐SEM) and then studied using TEM followed by APT. Near the K‐T interface, we found 3.8 ± 0.5 wt% Ni in kamacite and 53.4 ± 0.5 wt% Ni in tetrataenite. High‐Ni precipitate regions of the cloudy zone (CZ) have 50.4 ± 0.8 wt% Ni. A region near the CZ and martensite interface has <10 nm sized Ni‐rich precipitates with 38.4 ± 0.7 wt% Ni present within a low‐Ni matrix having 25.5 ± 0.6 wt% Ni. We found that Cu is predominantly concentrated in tetrataenite, whereas Co, P, and Cr are concentrated in kamacite. Phosphorus is preferentially concentrated along the K‐T interface. This study is the first precise measurement of the phase composition at high spatial resolution and in 3‐D of the K‐T interface region in a IVA iron meteorite and furthers our knowledge of the phase composition changes in a fast‐cooled iron meteorite below 400 °C. We demonstrate that APT in conjunction with TEM is a useful approach to study the major, minor, and trace elemental composition of nanoscale features within fast‐cooled iron meteorites.  相似文献

Cement-bentonite interactions will occur in deep geological repositories for high level radioactive waste. We performed laboratory experiments in order to constrain some previous geochemical and mineralogical uncertainties in the formation of secondary minerals in the high pH reaction of FEBEX bentonite at moderate temperatures.The reactivity of a Mg-homoionic FEBEX bentonite was studied at 25, 60 and 90 °C in batch reactors using two solutions representative of short and long time evolution stages of cement degradation. These solutions were periodically renewed in order to maintain a constant pH regime for a period of almost 2 years.Chabazite and merlinoite were observed to be the main zeolites that formed at 60 °C, while merlinoite was the dominant zeolite formed at 90 °C with the hyperalkaline (K-Na-OH) solution. The alkaline experiments (Ca-OH solution) showed minor reactivity and negligible mineralogical alteration, but the overall results suggest that the reaction tends to equilibrium conditions between C-S-H and montmorillonite at high temperature and metastable conditions at low temperature. The montmorillonite dissolution rates were calculated for all experiments, showing good agreement with previous calculations.  相似文献

The goal of the CLARIS project was to build an integrated European–South American network dedicated to promote common research strategies to observe and predict climate changes and their consequent socio-economic impacts taking into account the climate and societal peculiarities of South America. Reaching that goal placed the present network as a privileged advisor to contribute to the design of adaptation strategies in a region strongly affected by and dependent on climate variability (e.g. agriculture, health, hydro-electricity). Building the CLARIS network required fulfilling the following three objectives: (1) The first objective of CLARIS was to set up and favour the technical transfer and expertise in earth system and regional climate modelling between Europe and South America together with the providing of a list of climate data (observed and simulated) required for model validations; (2) The second objective of CLARIS was to facilitate the exchange of observed and simulated climate data between the climate research groups and to create a South American high-quality climate database for studies in extreme events and long-term climate trends; (3) Finally, the third objective of CLARIS was to strengthen the communication between climate researchers and stakeholders, and to demonstrate the feasibility of using climate information in the decision-making process.  相似文献

The present study aims to interpret the occupation of terra firme (nonflooded uplands) archeological sites located at Tapirapé‐Aquiri National Forest in the Brazilian state of Pará, through an integrated analysis of pedological, archeological, and geochemical data. We focus on seven archaeological sites, selected among 22 identified in the region. Radiocarbon and thermoluminescence dating indicate distinct periods of occupation over the past ∼6000 years, and the pedo‐geochemical data identify intra‐ and inter‐site differences in soil. Archaeological, chronometric, and pedo‐geochemical data provide a basis for the functional classification of archeological sites found in the region and help to identify specific human activity areas. The results lead us to infer that many of the archeological sites were the result of multiple occupations that left a persistent pedological signature on the landscape.  相似文献

Large sky surveys are providing a huge amount of information for studies of the interstellar medium, the galactic structure or the cosmic web. Setting into a common frame information coming from different wavelengths, over large fields of view, is needed for this kind of research. GALEX is the only nearly all-sky survey at ultraviolet wavelengths and contains fundamental information for all types of studies. GALEX field of view is circular embedded in a squared matrix of 3840×3840 pixels. This fact makes it hard to get GALEX images properly overlapped with the existing astronomical tools such as Aladin or Montage. We developed our own software for this purpose. In this article, we describe this software and makes it available to the community.  相似文献
