It is difficult to describe the flow characteristics within and above urban canopies using only geometrical parameters such as plan area index (λ p ) and frontal area index (λ f ) because urban surfaces comprise buildings with random layouts, shapes, and heights. Furthermore, two types of ‘randomness’ are associated with the geometry of building arrays: the randomness of element heights (vertical) and that of the rotation angles of each block (horizontal). In this study, wind-tunnel experiments were conducted on seven types of urban building arrays with various roughness packing densities to measure the bulk drag coefficient (C d ) and mean wind profile; aerodynamic parameters such as roughness length (z o ) and displacement height (d) were also estimated. The results are compared with previous results from regular arrays having neither ‘vertical’ nor ‘horizontal’ randomness. In vertical random arrays, the plot of C d and z o versus λ f exhibited a monotonic increase, and z o increased by a factor of almost two for λ f = 48–70%. C d was strongly influenced by the standard deviation of the height of blocks (σ) when λ p ≥ 17%, whereas C d was independent of σ when λ p = 7%. In the case of horizontal random arrays, the plot of the estimated C d against λ f showed a peak. The effect of both vertical and horizontal randomness of the layout on aerodynamic parameters can be explained by the structure of the vortices around the blocks; the aspect ratio of the block is an appropriate index for the estimation of such features.  相似文献

A semi‐active hydraulic damper (SHD) for a semi‐active damper system, which is useful for practical structural control especially for large earthquakes, has been developed. Its maximum damping force is set to 1 or 2 MN, and it is controlled by only 70 W of electric power. An SHD with a maximum damping force of 1 MN was applied to an actual building in 1998. This paper first presents the results of a dynamic loading test to confirm the control performance of the SHD. Next, an analytical model of SHDs (SHD model) is constructed with the same concept for two kinds of SHDs based on the test results. Through simulation analyses of the test results using the proposed SHD model, the dynamic characteristics of the SHD can be well represented within practical conditions. Simulation analyses are also carried out using a simple structure model with the SHD model. It is shown that this SHD model can be used to precisely evaluate the control effect of the semi‐active damper system and is useful in practical SHD design under the applied conditions. The determination of rare earth elements (REEs), Th and U in seaweeds of various species and in ambient surface seawater were performed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The seaweeds and the seawater samples were collected at 10 different coastal areas of Niigata Prefecture in Japan twice a year (spring and autumn) in 2004 and 2005. Results showed that concentration of REEs in seaweed species from Niigata Prefecture were about 103 times higher than those in seawater, and the enrichment factors of REEs were larger in heavy REE than light REE. A significant concentration difference of REEs, Th and U was found among species even in the same phylum. Undaria pinnatifida had the highest concentration of U. Considering that U. pinnatifida has low concentrations of REEs among typical brown algae, different REEs and U uptake mechanisms are suggested. The concentration of REEs, Th and U did not vary remarkably between sampling points and/or seasons.  相似文献

In the present study, the large-scale excavation in the construction is numerically back-analyzed using a soil–water-coupled finite element method with an elasto-viscoplastic model which considers the strain-induced degradation. The measurements of the deformation have been performed during the construction of a new railway station in Osaka, Japan, in which a large and deep excavation has been successfully carried out using a special deep mixing type of soil improvement method with earth retaining walls through the thick Holocene Osaka Umeda clay deposit. A comparison between the numerical results and the measurements of the excavation at Osaka shows that the simulation method can reproduce the overall deformation of the soft ground and the earth retaining walls including the time-dependent behaviour during the excavation and a deep mixing soil improvement method as an additional technique for stability are effective.  相似文献

A numerical experiment is carried out to reproduce distribution of concentration of 90Sr and 137Cs, estimate their total amount and verify their source in the Japan Sea. Model results are in good agreement with observational findings in the Japan Sea expeditions between 1997 and 2002 by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency. Vertical profiles of the concentration of 90Sr and 137Cs show exponential decreases with depth from the sea surface to the sea bottom. From the model and observational results, it is suggested that the concentration of 90Sr and 137Cs in the surface layer is approximately in the range of 1.0–1.5 Bq/m3 and 2.0–2.5 Bq/m3, respectively. On the other hand, it is found that the concentration in the intermediate and deep layer is higher than that observed in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, suggesting active winter convection in the Japan Sea. The total amount of 90Sr and 137Cs in the seawater is evaluated to be 1.34 × 1015 Bq and 2.02 × 1015 Bq, respectively, in the numerical experiment, which demonstrates an estimation by observational data obtained in the Japan Sea expeditions. The total amount of 90Sr and 137Cs changed during the second half of 20th century corresponding to deposition at the sea surface with the maximums of 4.86 × 1015 Bq for 90Sr and 7.33 × 1015 Bq for 137Cs, respectively, in the mid-1960s. The numerical experiment suggests that the main source of 90Sr and 137Cs has been global fallout, although there have been some potential sources in the Japan Sea.  相似文献

Significant impacts of the subgridscale parameterizations have been emphasized in modeling the ocean circulations, but various different parameter values are applied to similar numerical studies often without any justification. This study objectively estimates a set of empirical parameters along with their uncertainty for circulation modeling of the East Asian Marginal Seas. The solutions for 14 major parameters are obtained by using model Green’s functions with constraints of climatological temperature and salinity data. The largest cost function reduction occurs in the eastern Japan Sea associated with the sharp gradient of the Polar Front. The calibrated parameters are also validated with realistic transport and path of the Kuroshio in the final experiment. The inverse estimation shows that freshwater discharges from small rivers can be attributed to the coastal precipitation over a strip of land 74–81 km wide. The thickness diffusion coefficient may be similar to the isopycnal and horizontal diffusion coefficients in their magnitude. The accelerated initial condition also contributes to the cost function reduction resulting in weaker trends of deep temperature. Most importantly, estimated scaling factors suggest a significant reduction of the reanalyzed wind stress data for more realistic ocean circulations. Possible reasons for the momentum missing are also discussed.  相似文献

Abstract: Analytical data for fourteen rare-earth elements, scandium, yttrium, zirconium and hafnium, received by May 1992, have been compiled on twenty-six GSJ (Geological Survey of Japan) reference samples. Seventeen of them are 'Igneous rock series' and nine are "Sedimentary rock series". The reported data including personal communication were evaluated under the consideration on analytical methods and geochemical evidences. No significant difference has been observed between the values obtained by the different analytical methods. Based on the selected available data, 1992 compilation values were tabulated.  相似文献

Abstract   Tectonic episodes in a sedimentary basin are described on the basis of an integrated study combining reflection seismic interpretation, drilling survey and paleomagnetism. A shallow inclined borehole penetrated a fault shown by reflection seismic and geological surveys in the Mizunami area, in the eastern part of southwest Japan. Paleomagnetic measurements were carried out on core samples successfully oriented using side-wall image logging of structural attitude. At six horizons, stable characteristic remanent magnetization (ChRM) was confirmed through thermal and alternating field demagnetization tests, which were carried by magnetite with minor amounts of high coercivity minerals, as revealed by experiments of stepwise acquisition of isothermal remanent magnetization. After correction of multiphase deformation inferred from borehole structural analysis, ChRM directions were combined with previous data and confirmed an easterly deflection reflecting the coherent clockwise rotation of the arc before the Middle Miocene. Compilation of reliable paleomagnetic data described differential rotation of the eastern part of southwest Japan raised by collision of the Izu–Bonin Arc since the Middle Miocene. The present study suggests that (i) the Mizunami area is adjacent to a highly deformed zone bounded by the Akaishi Tectonic Line (ATL), and (ii) forearc deformation of southwest Japan is localized around the ATL, which is quite different from gradual bending on the back-arc side without remarkable crustal break related to the collision event.  相似文献
