The role of surfactant organic matter in marine aerosol production has been studied under conditions in which there is a large coverage of whitecaps on the sea surface. To improve the knowledge of matter exchange and pollutant recycling from the sea surface into the atmosphere, a spray drop adsorption model (SDAM) was developed and the validity of the proposed model verified by the following experimental results: (1) an increase of surfactant matter on the sea surface during rough sea conditions (‘surface wave concentration'); (2) an (hyperbolic-like) increase of the enrichment ratio (ER) of surfactant fluorescent organic matter (SFOM), made up predominantly by humic substances (HS), as the particle size decrease; (3) a similar behaviour for elements with pollutant properties, and which are known to interact with HS and other surfactant materials, considered pollution tracers. An additional laboratory experiment, based on the adsorption model conditions, gives enrichment ratio greater than unity for K and Ca. The first results on marine aerosols trapped in marine clouds (at 1000 m above sea level and at 100 km from the coast) seem to further support the proposed model and its ability to predict the transition from saline to almost entirely organic particles for the smaller fractions of marine aerosols. The possible contribution of these particles to the recycling and to the long range transport of pollutants via marine aerosols has been considered. 相似文献

The countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have a relatively poor record of fisheries management and the need to reform fisheries governance is urgent. There is now increasing interest in getting fishers and other stakeholders more involved in management through co-management and community-based management approaches. The purpose of this paper is to examine the potentials of co-management as an alternative fisheries management strategy for the countries in the CARICOM region. Co-management is found to have potential but there will need to be capacity-building and institutional strengthening of fisheries departments, fishers and NGOs to participate in co-management. Pilot projects should be initiated to gain practical experience in co-management. 相似文献

The paper is concerned with the evaluation of the drift current parameters derived through the use of an analytical model.
In this model, effective when stratification is stable and indifferent, the vertical turbulence coefficient profile is prescribed
by the power function, and hydrodynamic quantities are prescribed using the external parameters of the problem (wind stress,
the Coriolis parameter, and the dimensionless stratification parameter). Model data are compared with the observations of
the upper mixed layer in the vicinity of the oceanic Station C, conducted during one year. It is shown that, under the spring-summer-time
warming conditions, the model at issue is capable of adequately simulating the upper ocean layer dynamics.

In application to the Crimean regional centre for satellite data reception, treatment, and dissemination, we have identified
the earth’s satellite-surveyed areas, with orbital heights (H) ranging from 650 to 750 km. This paper shows that for the Ukrainian territory and the Sea of Azov-Black Sea environment
to be monitored, the regional centre’s receiving station must be capable of receiving radar signals from a range of about
1500 km. For typical high-speed radio lines, this may be achieved through the use of a satellite data-receiving station, with
the antenna’s diameter being about 3 m.

The basic relations of the classical dyamic method have been complemented with the condition allowing for the non-monotonicity
of the vertical kinematic structure. The elements of the multi-layered system of geostrophic currents have been found to correlate
over depth with seawater density and hydrostatic pressure distribution. An example of the analysis of the vertical structure
of currents, involving specific hydrological data, is given.

Acoustic behavior of gas-bearing sediments is significantly different from that of gas-free sediments. In situ velocity profiles and acoustic signal characteristics in gas-bearing sediments of the upper several meters of the sea floor in Kiel Bay are presented in this study. Observed velocities in gas-bearing sediments are both higher and lower than those of the gas-free sediments. This paper discusses a simplified model for the evolution of the atmospheric planetary boundary layer overlying a thermal
front in the sea. The model provides local values of the friction/heat transfer geostrophic coefficients and the direction
of surface wind stress, as well as the wind/temperature profiles at any point on the front. With the running over a warm front,
the baroclinicity of the internal boundary layer leads to the generation of a near-surface current of air directed down the
front. The model can be used to interpret radar imagery of the sea surface with the purpose of determining its mesoscale variability.

This paper discusses the application of acoustic sounding with the purpose of identifying vortical features in the sea. Analysis
of the results of a multidisciplinary acoustic/hydrological experiment conducted in the Black Sea has revealed a stable recurrent
correlation between the amplitudinal variance of echo signals, on the one hand, and the peculiarities of water temperature
fields, on the other. Given these characteristics, the peripheral and the central areas of a mesoscale eddy essentially differed.
This allows us to apply acoustic sounding to identify mesoscale eddies in the sea.
