The present paper is the introduction to a systematic analysis of 123 6-degree fields near the galactic plane, recorded in the medium ultraviolet (2000 Å) by the ballon-borne experiment SCAP 2000 of the Laboratoire d'Astronomie Spatiale, Marseille, and Geneva Observatory. The available data are presented and the general properties of the images are briefly discussed. It is shown that the high selectivity of the UV passband regarding spectral type, together with the strong interstellar extinction at that wavelength, provide the necessary conditions for an efficient application of Wolf's method to study the distribution of interstellar matter in the solar neighbourhood. The results of a fast analysis of the available data are presented here. 相似文献
The use of metamorphosed basic dykes as one of the most important single field criteria for subdividing gneisses in high grade areas into different chronological units is defended. The universal applicability of the lower greenstone-granite-upper greenstone model to all Archaean terrains is questioned using documented sequences of events in the North Atlantic craton. We prefer a chronology based on field criteria to one based on the application of theoretical crustal development models taken from one tectonic environment and used to explain the sequence of events in another. It is shown that the average K2O and Rb content from the 3600 m.y. sialic rocks of the North Atlantic craton ranges between 2.26 (Amîtsoq grey gneisses, Greenland) to 2.66 (Uivak grey gneisses, Labrador). Average K/Rb ratios are respectively 200 and 177, Rb/Sr, 0.33 and 0.29 for the two areas. K and Rb values are thus markedly higher than those reported from most other Archaean gneiss suites. Secondary redistribution of K and Rb at about 3600 m.y. is demonstrated by the documentation of the massive addition of these elements to basic rocks included in the gneisses. Whole sale addition of alkalies during migmatisation to the level of crust now exposed is postulated as one explanation of the unusually high K and Rb contents. It is argued on statistical grounds that if Rb metasomatism occurred it is not possible to use low initial Sr ratios alone to preclude the possibility that part of the Archaean gneiss complexes consist of tonalitic gneiss which are much older than conventional Sr0 interpretations allow. 相似文献
Based on the numerical simulation of water circulation in the Sea of Okhotsk in 1986 to 2015, the impact of deep cyclones on the circulation off the northeastern coast of Sakhalin is studied. The circulation in the Sea of Okhotsk is simulated with the COSMO-Ru-INMOM-CICE model configuration, where the COSMO-Ru and INMOM resolve explicitly the mesoscale atmosphere and ocean dynamics and the CICE resolves the ice cover evolution. The extreme atmospheric events associated with the intensive cyclone activity over the Sea of Okhotsk during the cold season are classified. It is found that high velocity is typical of the cyclones coming to the sea from Sakhalin, and wind speed on the periphery is higher for the cyclones coming to the Sea of Okhotsk from the south and southwest. The analysis of water circulation response off the northeastern coast of Sakhalin demonstrates that the meridional current velocity on the shelf increased by several times from the sea surface to the bottom for all types of cyclones. On the edge of the shelf, southern currents intensified in the surface and bottom layers during the passage of cyclones and at the intermediate depths during the passage of fronts. On the continental slope, southern currents intensified in the surface, intermediate, and bottom layers depending on the type of extreme events.
We model the broad-band X-ray spectrum of Cyg X-3 in all states displayed by this source as observed by the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer . From our models, we derive for the first time unabsorbed spectral shapes and luminosities for the full range of spectral states. We interpret the unabsorbed spectra in terms of Comptonization by a hybrid electron distribution and strong Compton reflection. We study the spectral evolution and compare with other black hole as well as neutron star sources. We show that a neutron star accretor is not consistent with the spectral evolution as a function of L E and especially not with the transition to a hard state. Our results point to the compact object in Cyg X-3 being a massive, ∼30 M⊙ black hole. 相似文献
We report results of an 18-ks exposure with the ACIS instrument on Chandra of the powerful z =0.62 radio galaxy 3C 220.1. The X-ray emission separates into cluster gas of emission-weighted kT ∼5 keV , 0.7–12 keV luminosity (to a radius of 45 arcsec) of 5.6×1044 erg s−1 and unresolved emission (coincident with the radio core). While the extended X-ray emission is clearly thermal in nature, a straightforward cooling-flow model, even in conjunction with a point-source component, is a poor fit to the radial profile of the X-ray emission. This is despite the fact that the measured properties of the gas suggest a massive cooling flow of ∼130 M⊙ yr−1, and the data show weak evidence for a temperature gradient. The central unresolved X-ray emission has a power-law spectral energy index α ∼0.7 and 0.7–12 keV luminosity of 1045 erg s−1, and any intrinsic absorption is relatively small. The two-point spectrum of the core emission between radio and X-ray energies has α rx=0.75 . Since this is a flatter spectrum than seen in other sources where the X-ray emission is presumed to be radio-related, regions close to the active galactic nucleus (AGN) in this source may dominate the central X-ray output, as is believed to be the case for lobe-dominated quasars. Simple unification models would be challenged if this were found to be the case for a large fraction of high-power radio galaxies. 相似文献
A finite element formulation is proposed to approximate a nonlinear system of partial differential equations, composed by an elliptic subsystem for the pressure–velocity and a transport equation (convection–diffusion) for the concentration, which models the incompressible miscible displacement of one fluid by another in a rigid porous media. The pressure is approximated by the classical Galerkin method and the velocity is calculated by a post-processing technique. Then, the concentration is obtained by a Galerkin/least-squares space–time (GLS/ST) finite element method. A numerical analysis is developed for the concentration approximation. Then, stability, convergence and numerical results are presented confirming the a priori error estimates. 相似文献
Stichtite, a rare (14 known localities worldwide) hydrated carbonate-hydroxide of Mg and Cr with ideal formula Mg6Cr2 (OH)16 CO3 · 4H2O, occurs exclusively in Cr-rich serpentinites of ophiolites or greenstone belts. Physical properties (hardness = 1.5–2, specific
gravity = 2.16–2.2, perfect basal [0001] cleavage, grain size commonly < 100 μm) resemble talc, but the mineral has an attractive
purple to lilac color; chemical analyses demonstrate it to be a non-silicate. Stichtite generally occurs as irregular to rounded
masses (< 1 cm – 30 cm across) and as veinlets (< 1 mm – > 2 cm wide) within serpentinite. Macroscopic and microscopic textures,
such as crosscutting veinlets and stringers, demonstrate that stichtite formation invariably post-dated serpentinization.
In some specimens stichtite surrounds relict grains of Cr-rich spinel; in others stichtite has completely replaced euhedral
or subhedral chromites. Chemical analyses of stichtites reveal substantial substitution of Al and Fe3+ for Cr in specimens from many localities, reflecting a possible compositional continuum between stichtite and rhombohedral
polymorphs hydrotalcite (Mg6Al2 (OH)16 CO3 · 4H2O) and pyroaurite (Mg6Fe2 (OH)16 CO3 · 4H2O). We report the first electron microprobe analyses of stichtites from seven localities, and summarize all available published
chemical data. Stichtites very likely inherited part of their trivalent cation chemistry from precursor Cr-rich spinels, but
stichtite growth apparently post-dated characteristic “ferritchromit” alteration, as demonstrated by the depletion of Al and
enrichment in Fe3+ in stichtite relative to primary chromite core compositions. Stichtite appears to form by reaction between serpentine and
altered chromite, during addition of substantial fluid, either as separate H2O and CO2 phases, or as a mixed volatile phase. Such reactions must involve removal of substantial SiO2, possibly by transport and remote deposition of silica by throughgoing aqueous and carbonic fluid.

Damages to natural building stones induced by the action of frost are considered to be of great importance. Commonly, the frost resistance of building stones is checked by standardised freeze–thaw tests before using. Corresponding tests normally involve 30–50 freeze–thaw action cycles. In order to verify the significance of such measurements, we performed long-term tests on four selected rocks over 1,400 freeze–thaw action cycles. Additionally, numerous petrophysical parameters were analysed to compare the behaviour of rocks in the weathering tests according to the current explanatory models of stress formation by growing ice crystals in the pore space. The long-term tests yield more information about the real frost sensibility of the rocks. A clear deterioration cannot be determined in most cases until 50 weathering cycles have been completed. In the freeze–thaw tests, the samples are also stressed by changing temperature and moisture, indicating that different decay mechanisms can interfere with each other. Thus, thermohygric and moisture expansion are important damage processes. 相似文献
We present CCD photometry of red supergiant long-period variables (LPVs) in the Per OB1 association, the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and M33. The photometry was obtained in the Kron–Cousins R and I bandpasses and in a narrow bandpass ( λ 0=8250 Å, FWHM=300 Å) chosen to avoid TiO bands in the spectral energy distribution of the LPVs. Because the strength of the TiO bands varies greatly with temperature, which varies with the phase of an LPV, avoiding TiO reduces the amplitude of the photometric variations seen in LPVs. The result is a lower dispersion and a well defined period–luminosity (PL) relation. For the LMC sample we find an rms dispersion of 0.27 mag in the narrow-band PL relation and slightly larger dispersions for the LPVs in Per OB1 and M33. This dispersion is comparable to that of the Cepheid PL relation at similar wavelengths. Adopting a distance modulus of 18.5±0.1 mag for the LMC, we obtain distance moduli of 11.68±0.15 mag for Per OB1 and 24.85±0.13 mag for M33. These distances agree well with those based on main sequence fitting for Per OB1 and the Cepheid distance for M33. Since LPVs are ∼ 5 times more common than Cepheids and have a well defined PL relation, LPVs provide a promising method for estimating Galactic and extra galactic distances. 相似文献
