A partial balance of mineral N is given for the basins of two coastal rivers in a forest zone in the Ivory Coast. The dry and wet depositions on the basin surfaces is given for particulate matter (NO3 , NH4 +). The quantity of mineral N washed away in the rivers is evaluated. The losses from leaching of the soils by rainwater are about 0.33 to 1.0% of the atmospheric depositions for NH4 +–N and 2.2 to 5.8% for NO3 –N. The yearly atmospheric input of N compounds to the ecosystem, about 1.4 g N m–2 y–1, is at least 14% of mineral N formed in the soils and is therefore quite significant.  相似文献

The Coastal Cordillera of central Chile is naturally sensitive to soil erosion due to moderate to steep slopes, intense winter rains when the vegetation cover is scarce, and deeply weathered granitic rocks. In 1965, 60 per cent of its surface was moderately to very severely eroded. Today this process is still largely active, but no data are currently available to evaluate the real extent, distribution and severity of soil degradation on a regional scale. This information is vital to support efficient soil conservation plans. A multi‐scale approach was implemented to produce regional land degradation maps based on remote sensing technologies. Fieldwork has shown that the surface colour or ‘redness’ and the density of coarse fragments are pertinent erosion indicators to describe a typical sequence of soil degradation in the context of mediterranean soil developed on granitic materials and micaschists. Field radiometric experiments concluded that both factors influence the reflectance of natural surfaces and can be modelled using radiometric indices accessible from most satellites operating in the optical domain, i.e. redness index and brightness index. Finally the radiometric indices were successfully applied to SPOT images to produce land degradation maps. Only broad classes of erosion status were discriminated and the detection of the degradation processes was only possible when most of the fertile layer had already been removed. This technology provides decision‐making information required to develop regional soil conservation plans and to prioritize actions between catchment areas, especially in vast inter‐tropical regions where spatialized data are not always readily available. The abundances of 24 major, minor and trace elements have been measured by INAA in Luna 20 metaigneous rocks 22006,1 and 22007,1, breccia 22004 and soil 22001,9 and in Apollo 16 soils 62281, 66041 and 66081. An additional 12 trace meteoritic and non-meteoritic elements have also been determined in 22001 and 62281 soils by RNAA. The bulk compositions of L 20 and Ap 16 rocks and soils show close similarity between the two highland sites. There are appreciable differences in bulk compositions between the L 20 highland and the L 16 mare site (120 km apart), suggesting little intermixing of rocks and soils from either site. Luna 20 rocks 22006 and 22007 are nearly identical in chemical composition to Ap 16 metaigneous rocks 61156 and 66095. Luna 20 rocks are feldspathic and are similar to low K-type Fra Mauro basalts. Such rocks and anorthositic gabbros appear to be the major components in highland soils. Luna 20 soil can be distinguished from Ap 16 soils by lower abundances of Al2O3, CaO and large ion lithophilic elements. Luna 20 breccia 22004 probably is compacted soil. All L 20 samples show negative Eu anomalies with SmEu ratios of 5.8, 7.2, 3.9 and 3.3 for rocks 22006, 22007, breccia 22004 and soil 22001, respectively. Norite-KREEP is insignificant, ≤1 per cent, at the L 20 highland site. The derivation of the L 20 soil may be explained by ≈33 per cent of L 20 metaigneous rocks and ≈ 65 per cent anorthositic gabbroic breccia rocks like 15418 (with a positive Eu anomaly) and ≈ 2 per cent meteoritic contributions. Interelement correlations observed previously for maria are also found in highland samples. Luna 20 and Ap 16 soils are low in alkalis. Both soils show an apparent Cd-Zn rich component similar to that observed at the mare sites and high 11 abundances relative to mare sites. The Ap 16 (62281) soil contains a fractionated meteoritic component (probably ancient) of ≈ 1.5 per cent in addition to ≈ 1.9 per cent Cl like material. Luna 20 soil may simply contain 1.9 per cent Cl equivalent.  相似文献

A general analysis of the absorption of the Schumann-Runge bands of molecular oxygen has been made in order to compare the various experimental and theoretical results which have been obtained for an application to the O2 atmospheric absorption and its photodissociation in the mesosphere and stratosphere. The different values of the oscillator strengths deduced from the laboratory absorption spectra and of the predissociation linewidths used for the calculation of the absorption have been compared.Calculations based on a Voight profile of the O2 rotational lines have led to simple formulas for atmospheric applications taking into account that the total photodissociation rate in the stratosphere depends strongly on the absorption of solar radiation in the spectral range of the O2 Herzberg continuum. A critical analysis has been made of solar irradiance in the spectral region covering wavelengths from 100 nm upwards; the absorption characteristics of molecules of oxygen and ozone have been taken into account with a view to the direct application of the results to atmospheric photochemistry. The absorption of radiation by these molecules results in the photodissociation of both of them in the homosphere, and it also makes possible the penetration of solar radiation from the thermosphere, through the mesosphere and the stratosphere, down to the troposphere.Special attention has been given to each of the following spectral regions: Lyman-alpha radiation at 121.6 nm, the O2 Schumann-Runge continuum at wavelengths less than 175 nm, the O2 Schumann-Runge band system from 200 to 175 nm, and the O2 Herzberg continuum at 242.4 nm. For absorption by ozone, the solar spectrum has been analysed in the following regions: the Hartley band at wavelengths less than 310 nm, the Huggins bands at wavelengths above 310 nm and the visible Chappuis bands. Finally, for the photodissociation of O3, particular attention has been given to the transition region (300–320 nm) in which there is a change-over from the production of the excited atom O(1D) to that of the atom in its ground state O(3p).  相似文献

The method of stellar radial velocity variations has recently shown its capability by the first discovery of several extra-solar planets. Accuracies achieved today are in the range 3-10 m/s. The AAA (absolute astronomical accelerometer) is an instrument which aims to reach the photon noise limit for the measurement of velocity changes, with systematic errors of about 1 m/s, long term. The principle is to use a servo-controlled CCD spectrograph as a null detector, and to register always the lines of the star on the same CCD pixels. Thus, systematic errors linked to the Earth-induced large variations are cancelled. A tunable Fabry-Perot channelled spectrum is also following the star spectrum, while the FP thickness is measured by heterodyne detection of the beats between a tunable laser diode and a stabilized laser diode. A complete prototype of the instrument is operating with laboratory sources and the first results are presented. It is planned to use this system with a new spectrograph, to be coupled to the 152 cm telescope at Observatoire de Haute Provence.  相似文献

The Acigöl rhyolite field erupted the most recent high-silica rhyolites within the Cappadocian Volcanic Province of central Anatolia, Turkey. It comprises two sequences of domes and pyroclastic rocks with eruption ages of ~150–200 ka (eastern group) and ~20–25 ka (western group). Compositionally, the eastern rhyolite group lavas are less evolved (SiO2 = 74–76 wt%), whereas the western group has higher silica abundance (SiO2 = ~77 wt%) with extremely depleted feldspar-compatible trace elements. Within each group, compositional variability is small and 143Nd/144Nd (0.51257–0.51265) and Pb isotope compositions (206Pb/204Pb = 18.87–18.88, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.65–15.67 and 208Pb/204Pb = 38.94–38.98) are homogeneous. The western group rhyolites have δ18O(zircon) overlapping mantle values (5.7 ± 0.2‰), whereas eastern group rhyolites are enriched in δ18O by ~0.5‰, consistent with a tendency to lower εNd values. By contrast, western group rhyolites have markedly more radiogenic 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7065–0.7091) compared to those of the eastern group (0.7059–0.7065). The presence of angular granitic xenoliths and a correlation between hydration (based on loss on ignition data) and 87Sr/86Sr in the western lavas, however, indicates that Sr was added during the eruption or post-eruption alteration. Isotope constraints preclude the possibility that the rhyolite magmas formed by partial melting of any known regional crystalline basement rocks. Basalts and andesites erupted in the periphery of the Acigöl field are characterised by 87Sr/86Sr ratios between 0.7040 and 0.7053, 143Nd/144Nd = 0.51259–0.51300, 206Pb/204Pb = 18.85–18.87, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.646–15.655, 208Pb/204Pb = 38.90–38.97. The isotopic and trace element data favour an origin of the rhyolites by mixing of basaltic/andesitic magmas with minor amounts of crustal melts and followed by extensive fractional crystallization.  相似文献

The Callovo-Oxfordian claystones located at 500 m depth at Bure (Meuse, France) are currently being investigated by Andra (the French National Radioactive Waste Management Agency) for testing the feasibility of long-term and deep geological nuclear waste disposal. In order to evaluate its potential as a geological barrier, it is very important to study, assess and describe its physico-chemical variability. The molecular biomarker composition of 150 samples of these claystones and their surrounding limestones carry diverse information on the sources of the sedimentary organic matter, the chemistry of the depositional environment, the preservation and diagenesis conditions. It also allows assessing the degree of lateral and vertical variability of the organic matter within these sedimentary series. The abundance of unsaturated biomarkers, the distribution of steroids and hopanoids and CPI values >2 prove the thermal immaturity of the organic matter. The co-occurrence of plankton, bacteria and land plant biomarkers indicate that the organic matter is a mixture of marine and continental contributions. The data also reveal that the organic matter was deposited under oxic and open-sea conditions except for a brief event of photic zone anoxia at the beginning of the Middle Callovian. In the claystones, the geosynthesis of diasterenes is favored to the detriment of the formation of steranes, especially in smectite-rich levels, and the organic matter is rapidly isolated from oxidizing then reducing conditions after the deposition due to the protective effect of clays. On the scale investigated, the claystones are characterized by a unique molecular facies and are thus homogenous from their organic content point of view. Yet, detailed investigation of specific molecular families indicates changes related to major claystone–limestone transitions. The homogeneity of these claystones can be explained by the paleogeographic position of their depositional setting and the plane and sub-horizontal paleotopography on which they were deposited. This study demonstrates the efficiency of organic geochemistry in the assessment of the variability of geological barriers.  相似文献
