Limnological features of Tulé Reservoir, a large and shallow reservoir in western Venezuela were studied from May 1992 to December 1993. This reservoir is polymictic, with a low water transparency. Levels of nitrogen were high and phytoplankton productivity was low. The phytoplankton productivity values may be explained by the low concentrations of orthophosphate during the larger part of the sampling period and the frequent mixing and resuspension of sediments. Heterotrophic bacteria were between 1651.67 and 4365.00 Colony-forming Units/ml. Species composition of the crustacean zooplankton community was similar to other neotropical eutrophic reservoirs.  相似文献

29Si MAS-NMR spectra were obtained for vermiculite with tetrahedral composition x=Al/(Al+Si)=0.28, a synthetic mica with x=0.43, and margarite with x=0.5. Comparison between the observed and Monte-Carlo simulated spectra was used to test different Al-Si distribution schemes in the tetrahedral sheet. The results of this analysis are interpreted including earlier data corresponding to lower Al for Si substitutions (0.12≤x≤0.28), and it is shown that for all samples (8 compositions in the range 0.1≤x≤0.5) the Al-Si distribution complies with the principle of homogeneous dispersion of charges (HDC). Thus, Al-Si distribution models for any particular x can be predicted on the basis of a simple crystallochemical criterion. HDC is a short range order concept and implies that, within the restrictions imposed by the principle, charges be distributed at random. For increasing values of x, however, the observance of HDC implies a coupling between adjacent hexamer rings which restricts the degrees of freedom for random distribution and is equivalent to a progressive extension of order. This is reflected by the frequencies of meta and para substitutions in the hexamer rings, which vary in a characteristical, continuous way with x, until the fully ordered distribution scheme of margarite (x=0.5) is reached. Partial long-range order for x<0.5, with alternating Si and (Al+Si) tetrahedra and all substitutions in meta disposition, could not be confirmed.  相似文献

Summary The present paper is an analysis of mean maximum and minimum temperatures carried out on monthly, seasonal and annual time-scales examining the data collected at 171 meteorological stations over a region in the North West of Spain (Castilla y León) for the period 1961–1997. Various statistical tools were used to detect and describe significant trends in these data. The magnitude of the trends was derived from the slopes of the regression lines using the least squares method, and the statistical significance was determined by means of the non-parametric Mann-Kendall test. The pattern obtained is quite similar for mean maximum and minimum temperatures with increases in all months of the year, and in the annual series. The seasonal series corresponding to winter and summer also followed this same pattern. Spring and autumn were found to be more irregular. Because maximum temperature increased at a higher rate than minimum temperature in this period, an increase in the annual diurnal temperature range (DTR) was observed. The correlation between the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the regional maximum and minimum temperatures and DTR series for the period 1961–1997 have also be studied in this paper.  相似文献

Recent and fossil (prehistoric, Natufian) gazelle bones, dentin and enamel were analyzed for their oxygen isotopic composition (δ18O) of the phosphate and carbonate, as well as their crystallinity. Fossil bones and dentin have better crystallinity than recent specimens, indicating diagenetic change. Fossil enamel, on the other hand, is identical in crystallinity to recent enamel, indicating the lack of diagenetic alteration. Comparison of δ18O of carbonate and phosphate of the skeletal elements suggests that the coexisting phosphate and carbonate of both the recent and fossil specimens are close to isotopic equilibrium. This might suggest that both phases were affected by the same degree of diagenetic alteration, and that comparison of their δ18O is not useful for the selection of pristine material for paleoclimatic reconstruction purposes. Oxygen isotope analysis of gazelle enamel from the Natufian period from Hayonim Cave, Israel, show depletion in δ18O in comparison with recent enamel. This depletion is interpreted to represent a colder and/or wetter climate in the Natufian of northern Israel. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Solar flares are one of the most energetic events in the solar system, their impact on Earth at ground level and its atmosphere remains under study. The repercussions of this phenomenon in our technological infrastructure includes radio blackouts and errors in geopositional and navigation systems that are considered natural hazards in ever more countries. Occurrence frequency and intensity of the most energetic solar flares are being taken into account in national programs for civil protection in order to reduce the risk and increase the resilience from space weather events. In this work we use the statistical theory of extreme values as well as other statistical methods in order to assess the magnitudes of the most extreme solar-flare events expected to occur in a given period of time. We found that the data set under study presents a dual tail behavior. Our results show that on average we can expect one solar flare greater than X23 each 25 years, that is to say, one such event each two solar cycles.  相似文献

Fractionation of oxygen and hydrogen isotopes in evaporating water   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Variations in oxygen and hydrogen isotope ratios of water and ice are powerful tools in hydrology and ice core studies. These variations are controlled by both equilibrium and kinetic isotope effects during evaporation and precipitation, and for quantitative interpretation it is necessary to understand how these processes affect the isotopic composition of water and ice. Whereas the equilibrium isotope effects are reasonably well understood, there is controversy on the magnitude of the kinetic isotope effects of both oxygen and hydrogen and the ratio between them. In order to resolve this disagreement, we performed evaporation experiments into air, argon and helium over the temperature range from 10 to 70 °C. From these measurements we derived the isotope effects for vapor diffusion in gas phase (εdiff(HD16O) for D/H and εdiff(H218O) for 18O/16O). For air, the ratio εdiff(HD16O)/εdiff(H218O) at 20 °C is 0.84, in very good agreement with Merlivat (1978) (0.88), but in considerable inconsistency with Cappa et al. (2003) (0.52). Our results support Merlivat’s conclusion that measured εdiff(HD16O)/εdiff(H218O) ratios are significantly different than ratios calculated from simplified kinetic theory of gas diffusion. On the other hand, our experiments with helium and argon suggest that this discrepancy is not due to isotope effects of molecular collision diameters. We also found, for the first time, that the εdiff(HD16O)/εdiff(H218O) ratio tends to increase with cooling. This new finding may have important implications to interpretations of deuterium excess (d-excess = δD − 8δ18O) in ice core records, because as we show, the effect of temperature on d-excess is of similar magnitude to glacial interglacial variations in the cores.  相似文献

We present the biostratigraphy (ammonites, brachiopods, foraminifers, and ostracodes), lithostratigraphy, sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, and isotope stratigraphy of the Almonacid de la Cuba section located in the Iberian Range, central-eastern Spain. This section, which contains a continuous and expanded record of the Pliensbachian-Toarcian boundary (Early Jurassic), has been proposed as a complementary section for the Toarcian GSSP. An excellent ammonite-based biozonation has been obtained. Four ammonite assemblages characterized by the presence of Pleuroceras, Canavaria, Dactylioceras (Eodactylites), and Dactylioceras (Orthodactylites) have been distinguished. The base of the Toarcian is located at level CU35.2, based on the first occurrence of Dactylioceras. The occurrence of taxa from the NW European and the Mediterranean provinces is useful to improve the correlation between both provinces. Foraminiferal and ostracode assemblages are rich and diversified and no significant biostratigraphic events take place at the Pliensbachian-Toarcian boundary. The magnetostratigraphic data presented here are the most complete record of reversals of the earth magnetic field for the Pliensbachian-Toarcian boundary. A good record of the onset of the positive δ13C excursion reported in the Lower Toarcian of many European sections has been obtained. Average paleotemperatures measured at the latest Pliensbachian Spinatum Biochron of about 12.5°C, recorded a marked increase of the seawater temperature which started during the Toarcian, reaching average temperatures of 16.7°C at the Tenuicostatum Biochron. The obtained 87Sr/86Sr values fully agree with the LOWESS calibration curve.  相似文献

Some physical properties (bulk and free porosity, pore size distribution), and the chemical composition and mass balance of two deeply weathered profiles one developed on Hercynian granodiorite and the other on pre-Cambrian slates were studied. Hydric and mercury porosimetry, nitrogen adsorption techniques, chemical analyses and XRD techniques were used. On granodiorite, weathering has created increased porosity with a pore diameter <5 μm, whereas on slates the weathering has produced of ca. 1 μm in diameter. These pore sizes have played an important role in the weathering processes. Assuming that weathering preserves volumes, except in the uppermost part of the profiles, it brought about a loss of matter of more than 12% (~300 kg/m3) on granodiorite and ca. 30% (~800 kg/m3) on slates. These changes are related to shifts in the mineralogical evolution, with the appearance of new 2:1 and 1:1 phyllosilicates and Fe oxy-hydroxides as the main authigenic minerals. The release of matter, at least since the upper Neogene until the present, has led to the lowering of relief in a more or less homogeneous way, giving rise to gentle hillsides and flat surfaces below which the current river networks are incised. Porosity studies have the potential to explain several specific landforms as well as affecting landscape development in general.  相似文献

The extensive afforestation of the Mediterranean rim of Europe in recent decades has increased the number of wildfire disturbances on hydrological and sediment processes, but the impacts on headwater catchments is still poorly understood, especially when compared with the previous agricultural landscape. This work monitored an agroforestry catchment in the north-western Iberian Peninsula, with plantation forests mixed with traditional agriculture using soil conservation practices, for one year before the fire and for three years afterwards, during which period the burnt area was ploughed and reforested. During this period, continuous data was collected for meteorology, streamflow and sediment concentration at the outlet, erosion features were mapped and measured after major rainfall events, and channel sediment dynamics were monitored downstream from the agricultural and the burnt forest area. Data from 202 rainfall events with over 10 mm was analysed in detail. Results show that the fire led to a notable impact on sediment processes during the first two post-fire years, but not on streamflow processes; this despite the small size of the burnt area (10% of the catchment) and the occurrence of a severe drought in the first year after the fire. During this period, soil loss at the burnt forest slopes was much larger than that at most traditionally managed fields, and, ultimately, led to sediment exhaustion. At the catchment scale, storm characteristics were the dominant factor behind streamflow and sediment yield both before and after the fire. However, the data indicated a shift from detachment-limited sediment yield before the fire, to transport-limited sediment yield afterwards, with important increases in streamflow sediment concentration. This indicates that even small fires can temporarily change sediment processes in agroforestry catchments, with potential negative consequences for downstream water quality.  相似文献

The diagenetic evolution of Permian (Autunian and Saxonian) and Triassic (Buntsandstein) sandstones and mudrocks have been studied over 1000 m sequence from the Sigüenza 44‐3 drill core in the Iberian Range, Spain. We compare and contrast the diagenetic processes in these different lithologies and the timing of clay mineral formation. Moreover, we establish the relationship between clay mineral diagenesis and reservoir potential. Both the Permian and Triassic successions are characterised by conglomerates, sandstones and interbedded mudstones of fluvial origin that change upwards into distal deposits of a fluvio‐deltaic system. The clay minerals are illite, illite‐smectite mixed layers, kaolinite and dickite. The illite content in all sequences is not related to diminished feldspars; it is owing to the initial detrital mineralogical composition of the Autunian sandstones. The effect of feldspar alteration to kaolin minerals has a strong influence on the lost of porosity‐permeability in the Saxonian facies. In contrast, illite and mixed layers illite‐smectite are the main clay rims preserving porosity in the Buntsandstein sandstones. However, fibrous illite is the dominant pore‐filling in the Permian Autunian facies, closing porosity and permeability. Kaolinite and dickite show opposite trends: dickite increases yet kaolinite decreases from Triassic to Permian sandstones. Dickite replaced kaolinite during burial‐thermal evolution of the succession. The δD and δ18O isotopic signatures from silt and clay fractions indicate a mixture of meteoric and marine waters, and suggest a minimum temperature range between 60 and 150 °C for diagenetic pore fluids. The Permian δD values (?24‰ to ?44‰) are relatively similar to Buntsandstein values (?24‰ to ?37‰). However, the Permian δ18O values (+7.6 and +15.3, average of +13.3‰) are generally higher by ca. 6.2‰ compared to the Buntsandstein data (4.8–10.1‰, average +7.1‰). Such a variation is interpreted as the result of mesodiagenetic pore fluid changes. The extensive dickitisation of kaolinite is attributed to increased hydrogen ions resulting from maturation of organic matter. The vitrinite reflectance of organic matter and the modelled thermal history suggest a maximum burial of 3400 m, accomplished 70 Ma ago. The Permo‐Triassic reached the gas window shortly before major uplift, at 65 Ma, when further maturation and hydrocarbon expulsion ceased.  相似文献
