This paper presents a short history of the appraisal of laser scanner technologies in geosciences used for imaging relief
by high-resolution digital elevation models (HRDEMs) or 3D models. A general overview of light detection and ranging (LIDAR)
techniques applied to landslides is given, followed by a review of different applications of LIDAR for landslide, rockfall
and debris-flow. These applications are classified as: (1) Detection and characterization of mass movements; (2) Hazard assessment
and susceptibility mapping; (3) Modelling; (4) Monitoring. This review emphasizes how LIDAR-derived HRDEMs can be used to
investigate any type of landslides. It is clear that such HRDEMs are not yet a common tool for landslides investigations,

Biological soil crust, or biocrust communities, are the dominating life form in many extreme habitats, such as arid and semiarid badlands, where water scarcity and highly erodible substrates limit vegetation cover. While climate, soil and biotic factors have been described as environmental filters influencing biocrust distribution in such biomes, little is known about the effect of terrain attributes on creating specific microhabitats that promote or restrict biocrust colonization. This study aimed to identify the main terrain attributes controlling biocrust distribution in the driest badland system in Europe, the Tabernas Badlands (SE Spain). To do this, we analysed the influence of different terrain attributes related to landscape stability and microclimate formation on the spatial distribution of lichen and cyanobacteria, using field measurements and topographical information from a LiDAR survey. Our results showed that the spatial distribution of cyanobacteria-dominated biocrusts, which are physiologically and morphologically adapted to extreme drought and high UVA radiation, was mostly associated with areas of high potential incoming solar radiation. The exception was bare south-aspect hillslopes with very high sediment transport potential, where bare physically crusted soils were the dominant ground cover. Lichen-dominated biocrusts, in contrast, colonized near the top of north-aspect hillslopes, characterized by low potential incoming solar radiation and potential evapotranspiration, and their cover decreased downstream, as conditions became good enough for vascular plants. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

The paper presents a new fully coupled elastoplastic solution for the response of a poroelastic thick-walled soil cylinder around an elastoplastic stone column using Biot’s (J Appl Phys 12:155–164, 1941) consolidation theory. A unit cell concept is adopted for the soil–stone column analysis, and the problem is formulated in cylindrical coordinates. Expressions for excess pore pressure, stresses and displacements in the Laplace domain are derived analytically taking into account elastic or plastic behavior of the column. The inverse of the Laplace transform is evaluated numerically using an efficient scheme to obtain the final elastoplastic solution in time domain. The validity of the new solution has been checked against finite element solution and compared with some previously developed analytical methods for the stone column analysis. The results showing settlements, change in excess pore pressures and stresses with time are presented in terms of time factor. The proposed solution can be used to calculate transient state of settlements, distribution of deformations, stresses and excess pore pressures in soil and column under instantaneous or time-dependent monotonically increasing rigid vertical load. 相似文献

Bi-weekly water quality data from seven monitoring stations located within Tahtali Watershed, ?zmir, Turkey and digital land use/land cover data of the same watershed are analyzed in this study. To examine the changes in land use associated with urbanization, the satellite images of the main pool of the Tahtali reservoir prior to filling and subsequent to filling, respectively, are analyzed. Aerial photos of the basin taken in 1995 (October) are compared with images taken in 2005 (November) from the IKONOS satellite through use of several GIS techniques. New residential buildings, greenhouses, and industrial buildings are presented in separate layers, and changes in basin activities are quantified. The effects of urbanization on the water quality are investigated through statistical analysis. The seasonal Kendall test is applied to the water quality parameters monitored bi-weekly at seven stations within the basin for the duration 1997–2005. There was no trend in phosphorus, but there was a negative trend in boron and nitrate and a positive trend in the parameters of biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). The improvement in nitrate concentrations is attributed to the new regulations on the use of fertilizers in greenhouses. However, increase of BOD and COD concentrations is related to the growing settlement areas and industrial zones, which point to the insufficient wastewater treatment within the basin. Soil erosion within the basin is also quantified by the universal soil loss equation using available maps. Estimated total soil loss rate increased about 2.5 times that of 1995 when the changed land use composition in 2005 is considered in the calculations. 相似文献

—Systematic variations of the seismic radial anisotropy ξ to depths of 200–250 km in North America and Eurasia and their surroundings are related to the age of continental provinces, and typical depth dependences of ξ R are determined. The relative radial anisotropy ξ R in the mantle lithosphere of Phanerozoic orogenic belts is characterized by ν SH > ν SV , with its maximum depth of about 70 km, on the average, while beneath old shields and platforms, it exhibits a maximum deviation from ACY400 model (Montagner and Anderson, 1989) at depths of about 100 km with ν SV ≥ν SH signature. An interpretation of the observed seismic anisotropy by the preferred orientation of olivine crystals results in a model of the mantle lithosphere characterized by anisotropic structures plunging steeply beneath old shields and platforms, compared to less inclined anisotropies beneath Phanerozoic regions. This observation supports the idea derived from petrological and geochemical observations that a mode of continental lithosphere generation may have changed throughout earth's history. 相似文献

The location of the Late Cretaceous paleoshoreline in the Leonese Area (Iberian Trough, Spain) has been investigated by seismic analysis through isobath and isopach maps. The succession can be divided into two depositional sequences: DS-1 and DS-2. These sequences are composed of fluvial systems at the base, with paleocurrents that flowed eastward and north-eastward. The DS-1 sequence (Late Albian-Middle Turonian) shows intertidal to subtidal and offshore deposits at the top, while the DS-2 sequence (Late Turonian-Campanian) presents intertidal to subtidal, tidal flat and shallow marine and lacustrine deposits at its top. The stratigraphic cyclicity based on systems tracts shows that these two depositional sequences exhibit remarkable eustatic control. Both sequences start at the base with a significant sedimentary supply from fluvial systems, related to eustatic fall episodes, and conclude at the top with transgressive periods. The evolution of the basin reveals the history of base-level changes and associated shifts in depositional trends during successive stages. The deeper sectors of the DS-1 sequence are located towards the northeastern part of the study area while the proximal portion of the basin-margin is located to the southwest. The paleoshoreline is placed in a direction oriented at 120. The variations in thickness are elongated in orientations between 030 and 050 and are mainly related to paleovalleys and tributary fluvial networks that supply sediment through the shoreline. It is possible that these variations may be related to active synsedimentary faults. Depocenters move toward the northeast and east during the DS-2 sequence while the proximal portion of the basin-margin moves to the southwest. The paleoshoreline has an orientation of 155 direction and moves basinward. The isopach maps show a group of corridors oriented at 130?C140 and 165?C170, interpreted as result of accumulation of sandy bodies such as inter and subtidal bars. Large-scale ancient landslides of the area of more than 5 km2 and volume exceeding 200 × 106 m3 are characteristic features of the valleys incised in the northern periphery of the Crimean Mountains (Ukraine). The largely
affected area is located in the outermost cuesta range of the Crimean Mountains which consists of rigid Sarmatian limestones
overlying weak Middle Miocene and Upper Palaeogene deposits. A giant landslide arose in the Alma water gap as a reflection
of several coincident preparatory factors such as suitable bedrock stratification, smectite-rich bedrock exposed to swelling
activity, presence of faults parallel to the valley trend, and river capture event which preceded the landslide event. The
occurrence of such ancient megaslides is particularly interesting in the area which is characterized by low precipitation
(<500 mm/year) and weak contemporary seismicity. It probably reflects a more dynamic environment in humid phases of the Holocene;
however, seismic triggering along the Mesozoic suture zone cannot be rejected. Compressional features such as gravitational
folds in the central and distal parts of the landslide, which probably correlate with the whole landslide genesis or its significant
reactivation, arose, according to the radiocarbon dating, during the Holocene climatic optimum in the Atlantic period. The
slope deformation has been relatively quiescent since that time, except minor historic reactivization which took place in
the frontal part of the landslide. We suppose that the studied landslide could be classified as a transitional type of slope
deformation with some signs of spreading and translational block slides. 相似文献
