Based on the data from China′s Seventh Forest Inventory for the period of 2004–2008, area and stand volume of different types and age-classes of plantation were used to establish the relationship between biomass density and age of planted forests in different regions of the country. Combined with the plantation area in the first-stage of the Natural Forest Protection(NFP) program(1998–2010), this study calculated the biomass carbon storage of the afforestation in the first-stage of the program. On this basis, the carbon sequestration potential of these forests was estimated for the second stage of the program(2011–2020). Biomass carbon storage of plantation established in the first stage of the program was 33.67 Tg C, which was majority accounted by protection forests(30.26 Tg C). There was a significant difference among carbon storage in different regions, which depended on the relationship of biomass carbon density, forest age and plantation area. Under the natural growth, the carbon storage was forecasted to increase annually from 2011 to 2020, reaching 96.03 Tg C at the end of the second-stage of the program in 2020. The annual growth of the carbon storage was forecasted to be 6.24 Tg C/yr, which suggested that NFP program has a significant potential for enhancing carbon sequestration in plantation forests under its domain.  相似文献

It is shown that the property of the scale invariance of the eigenvalues and eigenmodes of a finite element can be used as a basis to calculate good approximations to the analytical magnitudes of eigenvalues. This requires the subdivision of the element into a mesh of small elements with the same shape as the large element, the enforcement of the modal boundary displacements of the large element to the mesh of small elements and finally the application of the conditions of both the nodal equilibrium and the equality of the nodal work at both scales. Due to the self‐similarity of the elements at all scales the authors propose to call this method the fractal approach. The method is applied to calculate the hour‐glass eigenvalue of a plane square 4‐node quad for isotropic linear elastic material. The resulting hour‐glass eigenvalue is shown to be a good approximation of the analytical magnitude as derived in a companion paper. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The development and application of geochemical techniques to identify redox conditions in modern and ancient aquatic environments has intensified over recent years. Iron (Fe) speciation has emerged as one of the most widely used procedures to distinguish different redox regimes in both the water column and sediments, and is the main technique used to identify oxic, ferruginous (anoxic, Fe(II) containing) and euxinic (anoxic, sulfidic) water column conditions. However, an international sediment reference material has never been developed. This has led to concern over the consistency of results published by the many laboratories that now utilise the technique. Here, we report an interlaboratory comparison of four Fe speciation reference materials for palaeoredox analysis, which span a range of compositions and reflect deposition under different redox conditions. We provide an update of extraction techniques used in Fe speciation and assess the effects of both test portion mass, and the use of different analytical procedures, on the quantification of different Fe fractions in sedimentary rocks. While atomic absorption spectroscopy and inductively coupled plasma‐optical emission spectrometry produced comparable Fe measurements for all extraction stages, the use of ferrozine consistently underestimated Fe in the extraction step targeting mixed ferrous–ferric minerals such as magnetite. We therefore suggest that the use of ferrozine is discontinued for this Fe pool. Finally, we report the combined data of four independent Fe speciation laboratories to characterise the Fe speciation composition of the reference materials. These reference materials are available to the community to provide an essential validation of in‐house Fe speciation measurements.  相似文献

Crack propagation in rocks is simulated by using a displacement substitution method based on a mixed mode fracture criterion. The main advantage of this model is that it can distinguish between mode I and mode II stress intensity factors simultaneously. A typical finite element program is used to compute displacements adjacent to the crack tip. The maximum circumferential tensile stress is adopted as a ‘yield surface’ for the calculation of the load factor in each crack increment. This paper presents a new model of concentration fluctuations for neutrally buoyant gas clouds dispersing in a wind tunnel. It is derived from a series of exact results, which apply in the hypothetical case when there is no molecular diffusion, coupled with a probability density function model previously used to describe steady releases of contaminant. A simple self-similar relationship between the evolution of the concentration intensity and mean is established. As a first step the time independent variant of the model, applicable to a continuous plume, is tested against some previously published experimental data for steady wind-tunnel releases. Comparisons of experimental results and model predictions at different downwind positions, heights and source geometry are presented. Then, the results for the time dependent model, applicable to instantaneous releases, are discussed. The experimental evidence presented here supports the self-similar relationship established earlier. The implications for modelling higher moments of concentration and the fixed point probability density function are investigated.  相似文献

The Bellevue drillcore intersects ~3 km of Main and Upper Zone cumulates in the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex. Main Zone cumulates are predominately gabbronorites, with localized layers of pyroxenite and anorthosite. Some previous workers, using bulk rock major, trace and isotopic compositions, have suggested that the Main Zone crystallized predominantly from a single pulse of magma. However, density measurements throughout the Bellevue drillcore reveal intervals that show up-section increases in bulk rock density, which are difficult to explain by crystallization from a single batch of magma. Wavelet analysis of the density data suggests that these intervals occur on length-scales of ~40 to ~170 m, thus defining a scale of layering not previously described in the Bushveld Complex. Upward increases in density in the Main Zone correspond to upward increases in modal pyroxene, producing intervals that grade from a basal anorthosite (with 5% pyroxene) to gabbronorite (with 30–40% pyroxene). We examined the textures and mineral compositions of a ~40 m thick interval showing upwardly increasing density to establish how this type of layering formed. Plagioclase generally forms euhedral laths, while orthopyroxene is interstitial in texture and commonly envelops finer-grained and embayed plagioclase grains. Minor interstitial clinopyroxene was the final phase to crystallize from the magma. Plagioclase compositions show negligible change up-section (average An62), with local reverse zoning at the rims of cumulus laths (average increase of 2 mol%). In contrast, interstitial orthopyroxene compositions become more primitive up-section, from Mg# 57 to Mg# 63. Clinopyroxene similarly shows an up-section increase in Mg#. Pyroxene compositions record the primary magmatic signature of the melt at the time of crystallization and are not an artefact of the trapped liquid shift effect. Combined, the textures and decoupled mineral compositions indicate that the upward density increase is produced by the downward infiltration of noritic magma into a previously emplaced plagioclase-rich crystal mush. Fresh noritic magma soaked down into the crystallizing anorthositic mush, partially dissolving plagioclase laths and assimilating Fe-enriched pore melt. The presence of multiple cycles showing upward increases in density in the Bellevue drillcore suggests that downward magma infiltration occurred episodically during crystallization of the Main Zone.  相似文献

The transformation of ferrihydrite to hematite by ageing at 92°C in solution has been studied using computer-fitted 57Fe Mössbauer spectra, together with X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The X-ray diffraction patterns show hematite is first discernible after 10 minutes ageing and after 30 minutes the hematite peaks are sharp and definite. Mössbauer spectroscopy at room temperature shows it is discernible after 60 minutes ageing but can be detected at liquid nitrogen temperature by 30 minutes. With further ageing the ferrihydrite progressively transforms to hematite and at 116 hours hematite is the only component. The electron micrographs show the ferrihydrite particles of 3–5 nm diameter coalesce to form hexagonal hematite platelets, initially of some 20 nm diameter, which increase to 30–40 nm with ageing.The Mössbauer spectra show the broadened ferric doublet resonance of ferrihydrite and the six-line magnetic hyperfine hematite resonance. Two closely overlapping ferric doublets were computer-fitted to the ferrihydrite resonance, the widths and dips of the component peaks within each doublet being constrained initially to be equal. As these constraints were relaxed, the widths and dips became unequal. This effect is related to the progressive ordering of the ferrihydrite structure as it ages to produce a partially magnetically ordered hematite structure, with a reduced magnetic field at room temperature of initially 473 kOe, increasing to 499 kOe with time. These results suggest a direct transformation of ferrihydrite to hematite, initiated by the coalescing of the ferrihydrite particles.  相似文献

The Early and early Middle Pleistocene archaeological record in Britain from c. 900 to 500 ka marks a critical shift in human occupation of northwest Europe, from occasional pioneer populations with simple core and flake technology to more widespread occupation associated with the appearance of Acheulean technology. Key to understanding this record are the fluvial deposits of the extinct Bytham River in central East Anglia, where a series of Lower Palaeolithic sites lie on a 15 km stretch of the former river. In this paper we present the results of new fieldwork and a reanalysis of historical artefact collections of handaxes and scrapers to: 1) establish the chronostratigraphic context of the Bytham archaeological record; 2) examine variability in lithic artefact typology and technology through time; and 3) explore the implications for understanding variation in lithic technology in the European record. Six phases of occupation of Britain are identified from at least marine isotope stage (MIS) 21 to MIS 13, with the last three phases characterised by distinctive lithic technology. We argue that this relates to the discontinuous occupation of Britain, where each phase represents the arrival of new groups derived from different European populations with distinctive material culture.  相似文献

Comparisons of flow time series between preimpact and postimpact periods have been widely used to determine hydrological alterations caused by reservoir operation. However, preimpact and postimpact periods might also be characterized by different climatological properties, a problem that has not been well addressed. In this study, we propose a framework to assess the cumulative impact of dams on hydrological regime over time. The impacts of the Three Gorges Dam (TGD) on the flow regime of the Yangtze River were investigated using this framework. We reconstructed the unregulated flow series to compare with the regulated flow series during the same period (2010 to 2015). Eco‐surplus and eco‐deficit and the Indicators of Hydrologic Alteration (IHA) parameters were used to examine hydrological regime change. Among 32 IHA parameters, Wilcoxon signed‐rank test and principal component analysis identified the October median flow, 1‐ and 3‐day maximum flows, 1‐day minimum flow, and rise rate as representative indicators of hydrological alterations. Eco‐surplus and eco‐deficit showed that the reservoir also changed the seasonal regime of the flows by reducing autumn flow and increasing winter flow. Changes in annual extreme flows and October flows lead to negative ecological implications downstream of the TGD. Ecological considerations should be taken into account during operation of the TGD in order to mitigate the negative effects on the fluvial ecosystem in the middle reach of Yangtze River. The framework proposed here could be a robust method to assess the cumulative impacts of reservoir operation over time.  相似文献
