We have used photometric images of ten barred galaxies in the B and I bands to infer the geometrical and dynamical parameters of their bars: Their length, (R
bar), their strengths, (S
b), and their corotation radii, (R
CR).These parameters have been obtained studying azimuthal profiles from the B and I band images of the galaxies. We find that R
CR is in all cases slightly larger than R
bar, with mean values close to 1.2 R
bar. We have also found a dependence of the ratio R
CR/R
bar on S
bar.

The region including the Aristarchus Plateau and Montes Harbinger is probably the most diverse, geologically, of any area of comparble size on the Moon. This part of the northwest quadrant of the lunar near side includes unique dark mantling material; both the densest concentration and the largest of the sinuous rilles; apparent volcanic vents, sinks, and domes; mare materials of various ages and colors; one of the freshest large craters (Aristarchus) with ejecta having unique colors and albedos; and three other large craters in different states of flooding and degradation (krieger, Herodotus, and Prinz). The three best-authenticated lunar transient phenomena were also observed here.This study is based principally on photographic and remote sensing observations made from Earth and Apollo orbiting space craft. Results include (1) delineation of geologic map units and their stratigraphic relationships; (2) discussion of the complex interrelationships between materials of volcanic and impact origin, including the effects of excavation, redistribution and mixing of previously deposited materials by younger impact craters; (3) deduction of physical and chemical properties of certain of the geologic units, based on both the remote-sensing information and on extrapolation of Apollo data to this area; and (4) development of a detailed geologic history of the region, outlining the probable sequence of events that resulted in its present appearance.A primary concern of the investigation has been anomalous red dark mantle on the Plateau. Based on an integration of Earth- and lunar orbit-based data, this layer seems to consist of fine-grained, block-free material containing a relatively large fraction of orange glass. On three nights in February 1976 we carried out polarimetric measurements, in V, of the short periodic eclipsing binary XY UMa, covering a complete cycle. The results are as follows:
- Within all phase intervals the linear polarization does not exceed 0.1%.
- In the phase range 0 p .95–1 p .35 the scatter of the Stokes parametersQ andU is about twice that within the phase interval 0 p .35–0 p .95.
- A periodogram analysis of these data revealed a period of 21000 s, which is equal to half the orbital periodP o=0d.47899 within 1.5%.

A Kelvin-Helmholtz instability has been identified numerically on an azimuthally symmetric Alfvén resonant layer in an axially bounded, straight cylindrical coronal loop. The physical model employed is an incompressible, reduced magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model including resistivity, viscosity, and density variation. The set of equations is solved numerically as an initial value problem. The linear growth rate of this instability is shown to be approximately proportional to the Alfvén driving amplitude and inversely proportional to the width of the Alfvén resonant layer. It is also shown that the linear growth rate increases linearly with m - 1 up to a certain m, reaches its maximum value for the mode whose half wavelength is comparable to the Alfvén resonant layer width, and decreases at higher m's. High resolution OVRO CO 1–0 observations of the inner 30 in the LINER galaxy NGC 5218 reveal the presence of a double centrally peaked molecular concentration with extensions out to a radius of 12. The molecular mass detected is 2.4 × 109 M and the gas surface density is high, 3000 M pc square in the inner 500 pc. The SFR is 2–3 M yr–1 and the SFE is 13, which are low or moderate values for that gas surface density. We interpret the inner feature as a rotating molecular ring with a radius of 200 pc. We furthermore suggest that the LINER activity in NGC 5218 is not caused by an aging starburst, but by a buried AGN. 相似文献

Based on CCD spectra obtained with the PFES echelle spectrometer of the 6-m telescope, we have determined for the first time the effective temperature T eff=5900 K, surface gravity logg=0.0, and detailed chemical composition of the faint star identified with the infrared source IRAS 23304+6147 by the model-atmosphere method. Its metallicity indicates that the object belongs to the old Galactic disk (the mean abundance of the iron-group elements V, Cr, and Fe for IRAS 23304+6147 is [X/H]=?0.61 dex). The stellar atmosphere exhibits an enhancement of carbon and nitrogen, [C/Fe]=+0.98, [N/Fe]=+1.36, and C/O>1. Significant overabundances of lanthanides were detected: the mean [X/Fe]=+1.04 for La, Ce, Pr, Nd, and Eu. The elemental abundances suggest that the atmospheric chemical composition of IRAS 23304+6147 was modified mainly by nucleosynthesis followed by mixing. By modeling the object's spectrum, we revealed absorption features at the positions of well-known absorption diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs). An analysis of radial-velocity and intensity measurements for these DIBs leads us to conclude that, for IRAS 23304+6147, the DIBs originate mostly in its circumstellar dust envelope expanding at a velocity of about 20 km s?1. Molecular C2 Swan emission bands were detected in the object's spectrum, which also originate in the circumstellar envelope. There is a close match between the object's atmospheric effective temperatures determined independently by the model-atmosphere method and by modeling its optical and infrared energy distribution, within the accuracy of the methods. 相似文献
