The paper presents the experimental investigation and analysis of the non-linear elasto-plastic stress–strain behaviour of normally consolidated lacustrine clay. Drained triaxial stress path tests were performed on natural block samples of Swiss lacustrine clay. Data were analysed using plasticity theory and the shape and extent of kinematic yield and bounding surfaces were determined and found to be elliptical but not congruent. Cross-anisotropic elasticity was used to quantify elastic strains to permit plastic strain increment vectors and hence a plastic potential surface to be defined.  相似文献

Data on the Shardarinskoe Reservoir are used to assess the indicator role of zooplankton community under unstable hydrological regime. The structural characteristics of zooplankton featured significant seasonal variations. The averaged indices characterized reservoir water quality at the level of mesotrophic and eutrophic water bodies. The possible use of cyclopidas to characterize toxic pollution of water is discussed.  相似文献

Multispectral faint galaxy counts, including the deepest Hubble DeepField, are interpreted with the help of our evolution model PEGASE(Fioc and Rocca-Volmerange, 1997). The best fits correspond to galaxyformations at high redshifts, a pure luminosity evolution andclassical luminosity functions. The adopted cosmology is a flatuniverse with the matter density parameter ΩM =0.3 and acosmological constant ΩΛ =0.7. A solution with ΩM=0.01 (open universe) is also acceptable. But a flat universe withΩM =1 is clearly excluded. The star formation histories for galaxytypes are derived from scenarios of evolution. The comparison with resultsalready published in the litterature, arises puzzling problems needinga further analysis of star formation tracers, specifically for bright galaxies. A series of samples of inhabitants of hydrothermal vents were collected during the 12th cruise of R/V Akademik Mstislav Keldysh in Guaymas Basin (the Gulf of California) and the Axial Seamount area (Juan de Fuca Ridge). The concentrations of trace and heavy metals in the tissues of Ridgeia piscesae, Riftia pachyptila, and Paralvinella palmiformis were analyzed. The neutron-activation analysis revealed significantly higher concentrations of uranium in the tissues of Paralvinella palmiformis as compared to the ambient seawater. The possible reasons for such phenomenon are discussed. The data obtained by the neutron-activation method are compared with those obtained by the atomic-absorption method for the same tissues analyzed.  相似文献

The appearance of multiplets arising from the 42P state of CaII (the H and K lines and an infrared triplet), the 1st positive band of N2 and possibly certain multiplets of FeII in meteor wake spectra is explained semi-quantitatively in terms of the two-step sequence: collisional ionization of major atmospheric species O2 and N2 followed by resonant charge exchange with ablated meteoric atoms. Many other features which could arise through this mechanism (multiplets of MgII, SiII and FeII, and bands of O2 and N2) are likely to be weak or to have escaped detection owing to observational selection.  相似文献

Late- to post-orogenic basins formed on both sides of the Pan-African – Brasiliano orogen when the Congo and Kalahari Cratons collided with the Rio de la Plata Craton during the formation of western Gondwana. Trace fossil evidence and radiometric age dating indicate that deposits on both sides are coeval and span the Cambrian–Precambrian boundary. A peripheral foreland basin, the Nama Basin, developed on the subducting southern African plate. Lower, craton-derived fluviomarine clastics are overlain by marine platform carbonates and deltaic flysch derived in part from the rising subduction complex along the northern (Damara Belt) and western (Gariep Belt) orogenic margins. Rare, thin volcanic ash layers (tuffs and cherts) are present. Upper sediments consist of unconformable red molasse related to collisional orogenesis. Orogenic loading from the north and west led to crustal flexure and the formation of a remnant ocean that drained to the south and closed progressively from north to south. During final collision SE-, E- and NE-verging nappes overrode the active basin margins. Although younger than most of the post-orogenic magmatism, its setting on the cratonic edge of the subducting plate precluded marked volcanism or granitic intrusion, the only exception being the youngest intrusions of the Kuboos-Bremen Suite dated at 521±6 Ma to 491±8 Ma. Two foreland-type basins, perhaps faulted remnants of a much larger NE–SW elongated retroarc foreland basin, are found west of the Dom Feliciano Belt on the edge of the Rio de la Plata Craton in southern Brazil. In the southern Camaqua Basin, basal fluvial deposits are followed by cyclical marine and coarsening-up deltaic deposits with a notable volcanic and volcaniclastic component. This lower deformed succession, comprising mainly red beds, contain stratabound Cu and Pb–Zn deposits and is overlain unconformably by a fluviodeltaic to aeolian succession of sandstones and conglomerates (with minor andesitic volcanics), derived primarily from an eastern orogenic source and showing southerly longitudinal transport. In the northern Itajaí Basin, sediments range from basal fluvial and platform sediments to fining-up submarine fan and turbidite deposits with intercalated acid tuffs. The Brazilian basins had faulted margins off which alluvial fans were shed. They also overlie parts of the Ribeira Belt. Thrust deformation along the orogenic margin bordering the Dom Feliciano Belt was directed westward in the Camaqua and Itajaí basins, but reactivated strike-slip and normal faults are also present. Late- to post-orogenic granitoids and volcanics of the Dom Feliciano Belt, ranging in age from 568±6 Ma to 529±4 Ma, occur in the foreland basins and are geochemically related to some of the synsedimentary volcanics.  相似文献

Summary. In 1984, the Australian Bureau of Mineral Resources and the Geological Survey of Queensland recorded a regional seismic reflection profile of over 800 km length from the eastern part of the Eromanga Basin to the Beenleigh Block east of the Clarence Moreton Basin. A relatively transparent upper crustal basement with an underlying, more reflective lower crust is characteristic of much of the region. Prominent westerly dipping reflectors occur well below the sediments of the eastern margin of the Clarence Moreton Basin and the adjacent Beenleigh Block, and provide some of the most interesting features of the entire survey. A wide angle reflection/refraction survey of 192 km length and an expanding reflection spread of 25 km length were recorded across the Nebine Ridge. The only clear deep reflectors are interpreted as P-to-SV or SV-to-P converted reflections from a mid-crustal boundary at a depth of about 17 km. The combined Nebine Ridge data provide well-constrained P and S wave velocity models of the upper crust, and suggest a crustal structure quite different from that beneath the adjacent Mesozoic basins.  相似文献
