Solving the nonlinear partial differential equations of magnetohydrodynamics numerically, we examine (1) the time development of a purely toroidal magnetic field (a magnetic ring) and (2) the interaction of a magnetic ring with a poloidal magnetic field. Axisymmetry and incompressibility are assumed. Parameters are chosen to correspond to photospheric conditions. In case (1), the magnetic ring contracts to the axis and then splits in two with one ring travelling up along the axis and the other down. In case (2), a large toroidal velocity field is generated which has opposite direction of flow above and below the magnetic ring. The magnetic and flow patterns of case (2) may persist with little change for a relatively long time. We conjecture that toroidal magnetic fields may be involved in the bright rings of sunspots or in the dynamics of spicules.The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. 相似文献

The non-linear, partial differential equations of magnetohydrodynamics are iterated simultaneously by computer to determine the time development of a single sunspot. Axisymmetry and incompressibility are assumed. The initial conditions are (1) zero velocity everywhere, and (2) the magnetic-field distribution of a ring current embedded in the photosphere. The initial magnetic field is then allowed to relax by magnetic diffusion and by the creation of a velocity field. It is shown that (1) Evershed motion outward from the sunspot will develop from a wide range of reasonable initial parameters, and (2) the growth rate of the magnetic configuration depends on the strength of the initial magnetic field. 相似文献

We propose a simple theoretical radiation scheme for regular building arrays. The essential difference of the present radiation scheme from the previous ones is the explicit consideration of the three-dimensional features of the surface geometry. The model is assumed to be an infinitely extended regular array of uniform buildings, each building composed of six faces (roof, floor, and four vertical walls). Without using time-consuming iterations or statistical approaches, we calculated the view factors of the faces, the complicated sunlit--shadow distributions, and the resulting canopy albedo for any time and location. The model was evaluated by comparing to outdoor experiments in a wide range of seasons and surface geometries. The simulated canopy albedos agreed well with measured values, and the accuracy is a significant improvement over two-dimensional-based model outputs. 相似文献

Interstellar and circumstellar matter is known to be strongly irradiated by cosmic radiation and several types of cosmic ray particles. The effects of irradiation on simulated interstellar and circumstellar matter such as CaCO3, MgCO3, SiO2 and Al2O3 are investigated. Especially, thermoluminescence (TL) spectra after γ-ray and neutron irradiation are compared carefully. It is shown that the thermoluminescence after neutron irradiation appears significantly in the wavelength of blue region. Characteristic time scales relevant to the accumulation of planetesimals in a gaseous nebula are examined and the accumulation toward the planets is simulated by numerically solving a growth equation for a mass distribution function. The eccentricity and inclination of planetesimals are assumed to be determined by a balance between excitation due to mutual gravitational scattering and dissipation due to gas drag. Two kinds of mass motion in the radial direction, i.e., diffusion due to mutual scattering and inward flow due to gas drag, are both taken into account. The diffusion is shown to be effective in later stages with a result of accelerating the accumulation. As to the coalescent collision cross section, the usual formula for a binary encounter in a free space is used but the effect of tidal disruption which increases substantially the cross section is taken into account. Numerical results show that the gravitational enhancement factor (i.e., the so-called “Safronov number”), contained in the cross section formula, always takes a value of the order of unity but the accumulation proceeds relatively rapidly owing to the effects of radial diffusion and tidal disruption. That is, a proto-Earth, a proto-Jupiter, and a proto-Saturn with masses of 1×1027 g are formed in 5×106, 1×107, and 1.6×108 years, respectively. Also, a tentative numerical computation for the Neptune formation shows that a proto-Neptune with the same mass requires a long accumulation time, 4.6×109 years. It has been almost four decades since the first launch of geostationary meteorological satellite by Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The specifications of the geostationary meteorological satellites have shown tremendous progresses along with the generations, which are now entering their third generation. The third-generation geostationary meteorological satellites not only yield basic data for weather monitoring, but also globally observe the Earth’s environment. The development of multi-band imagers with improved spatial resolution onboard the third-generation geostationary meteorological satellites brings us meteorological data in larger size than those of the second-generation ones. Thus, new techniques for domestic and world-wide dissemination of the observational big data are needed. In this paper, we develop a web-based data visualization for Himawari-8 satellite sensed images in real time and with full resolution. This data visualization is supported by the ecosystems, which uses a tiled pyramid representation and parallel processing technique for terrain on an academic cloud system. We evaluate the performance of our techniques for domestic and international users on laboratory experiments. The results show that our data visualization is suitable for practical use on a temporal preview of observation image data for the domestic users. 相似文献

Groundwater is a finite resource that is threatened by pollution all over the world. Shimabara City, Nagasaki, Japan, uses groundwater for its main water supply. During recent years, the city has experienced severe nitrate pollution in its groundwater. For better understanding of origin and impact of the pollution, chemical effects and surface–groundwater interactions need to be examined. For this purpose, we developed a methodology that builds on joint geochemical analyses and advanced statistical treatment. Water samples were collected at 42 sampling points in Shimabara including a part of Unzen City. Spatial distribution of water chemistry constituents was assessed by describing Stiff and Piper diagrams using major ions concentrations. The nitrate (NO3?+?NO2–N) concentration in 45% of water samples exceeded permissible Japanese drinking level of 10 mg L??1. Most of the samples showed Ca–HCO3 or Ca–(NO3?+?SO4) water types. Some samples were classified into characteristic water types such as Na–Cl, (Na?+?K)–HCO3, (Na?+?K)–(SO4?+?NO3), and Ca–Cl. Thus, results indicated salt water intrusion from the sea and anthropogenic pollution. At the upstream of Nishi River, although water chemistry was characterized as Ca–HCO3, ion concentrations were higher than those of other rivers. This is probably an effect of disinfection in livestock farming using slaked lime. Positive correlation between NO3? and SO42?, Mg2+, Ca2+, Na+, K+, and Cl? (r?=?0.32–0.64) is evidence that nitrate pollution sources are chemical fertilizers and livestock waste. Principal component analysis showed that chemistry of water samples can be explained by three main components (PCs). PC1 depicts general ion concentration. PC2 and PC3 share influence from chemical fertilizer and livestock waste. Cluster analyses grouped water samples into four main clusters. One of these is the general river chemistry mainly affected by PC1. The others reflect anthropogenic activities and are identified by the combination of the three PCs. 相似文献

Particle acceleration via Poynting vector with toroidal magnetic field is studied in 3D PIC simulation of electron-positron
plasma. We choose two different initial magnetic field configurations to compare how the particle acceleration is affected
by the expansion of electromagnetic wave. In the cylindrical case, the electromagnetic field strength decays as (ct)−2, and particles are accelerated in the radial direction as well as the axial direction. Rayleigh-Taylor instability is also

Various manners of determination of a magnetic field are reviewed briefly from the standpoint of practicality and uniqueness. Then a practical representation of magnetic fields in terms of a class of force-free magnetic field is described. The proposed scheme is based on the physical consideration that in the chromosphere and lower corona a quasistatic magnetic field must be nearly force-free and that for the class of force-free magnetic field, i.e., ×B=B with = constant, the magnetic field can be determined uniquely from the observed distribution of the vertical component of a magnetic field.
