The Sierras Pampeanas in central and north-western Argentina constitute a distinct morphotectonic feature between 27°S and 33°S. The last stage of uplift and deformation in this area are interpreted to be closely related to the Andean flat-slab subduction of the Nazca plate beneath the South American plate. K–Ar fault gouge dating and low-temperature thermochronology along two transects within the Sierra de Comechingones reveal a minimum age for the onset of brittle deformation about 340 Ma, very low exhumation rates since Late Paleozoic time, as well as a total exhumation of about 2.3 km since the Late Cretaceous. New Ar–Ar ages (7.54–1.91 Ma) of volcanic rocks from the San Luis volcanic belt support the eastward propagation of the flat-slab magmatic front, confirming the onset of flat-slab related deformation in this region at 11.2 Ma. Although low-temperature thermochronology does not clearly constrain the signal of the Andean uplift, it is understood that the current structural relief related to the Comechingones range has been achieved after the exhumation of both fault walls (circa 80–70 Ma). 相似文献

The impacts and cooperative effects of volcanic eruptions and ENSO (El Niño/Southern Oscillation) are analyzed in a millennium simulation for 800–2005 AD using the earth system model (ESM) ECHAM5/MPIOM/JSBACH subject to anthropogenic and natural forcings. The simulation comprises two ensembles, a first with weak (E1, five members) and a second with strong (E2, three members) variability total solar irradiance. In the analysis, the 21 most intense eruptions are selected in each ensemble member. Volcanoes with neutral ENSO states during two preceding winters cause a global cooling in the year after eruptions up to ?2.5°C. The nonsignificant positive values in the tropical Pacific Ocean indicate an El Niño-like warming. In the winter after an eruption, warming is mainly found in the Arctic Ocean and the Bering Sea in E2 warming extends to Siberia and central Asia. The recovery times for the volcano-induced cooling (average for 31 eruptions) vary globally between 1 and 12 years. There is no significant increase of El Niño events after volcanic eruptions in both ensembles. The simulated temperature and the drought indices are compared with corresponding reconstructions in East Asia. Volcanoes cause a dramatic cooling in west China (?2°C) and a drought in East China during the year after the eruption. The reconstructions show similar cooling patterns with smaller magnitudes and confirm the dryness in East China. Without volcanoes, El Niño events reduce summer precipitation in the North, while South China becomes wetter; La Niña events cause opposite effects. El Niño events in the winters after eruptions compensate the cooling caused by volcanoes in most regions of China (consistent with reconstructions), while La Niña events intensify the cooling (up to ?2.5°C). The simulated and reconstructed drought indices show tripole patterns which are altered by El Niño events. The simulated impact of the Tambora eruption in 1815, which caused the “year without summer” of 1816 in Europe and North America and led to coldness and famines in the Chinese province Yunnan, depends crucially on the ENSO state of the coupled model. A comparison with reconstructed El Niño events shows a moderate cool climate with wet (in the south) and extreme dry anomalies (in the north) persisting for several years. 相似文献

Our polarimetric database contains six comets, C/1975 V1 (West), 16P/Brooks 2,C/1988 A1 (Liller), D/1996 Q1 (Tabur), C/1999
S4 (LINEAR), and C/2001 A2(LINEAR), which can be related to the group of split comets. Comets West, S4(LINEAR) and A2 (LINEAR)
were observed during splitting. We compare thepolarimetric measurements of the dust particles in these comets, sometimes togetherwith
available photometric and colorimetric data, with those in normal comets. Weconclude that there is no significant evidence
for differences of polarization betweentidally split comets (e.g., Brooks 2), dissipating comets (e.g., Tabur), non-tidally
splitcomets (e.g., West) and normal comets. The total disintegration of Comet S4 (LINEAR), however, did produce significant

The plasma conditions in the solar atmosphere and, in particular, in coronal holes are summarized, before space-borne instrumentation
for observing these regions in vacuum-ultraviolet light is briefly introduced with the Solar Ultraviolet Measurements of Emitted
Radiation (SUMER) spectrometer on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) as example. Spectroscopic measurements of
small plasma jets are then analyzed in detail. Magnetic reconnection is thought to be responsible for heating the corona of
the Sun as well as accelerating the solar wind by converting magnetic energy into thermal and kinetic energies. The continuous
outflow of the fast solar wind from coronal holes on ‘open’ field lines, which reach out into interplanetary space, then requires
many reconnection events of very small scale sizes – most of them probably below the resolution capabilities of present-day
instruments. Our observations of such an event have been obtained with the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) providing
both high-resolution imaging and spectral information for structural and dynamical studies. We find whirling or rotating motions
as well as jets with acceleration along their propagation paths in close spatial and temporal vicinity to the coronal jet.

The COMBO-17 survey cite(Wolf et al., 2002) contains ≈ 40000 galaxies down to R=24 mag on an area of one square degree, obtained

12 medium band filters (=17 bands) yields accurate redshifts (σ

≈ 0.1 at the faint end) and spectral energy distribution types (SEDs) when using observed galaxy templates from (Kinney et
al.,1996). However, there is an obvious weakness in this classification scheme: The relation between star formation history
and SED remains unclear. It is therefore impossible to draw firm conclusions about the age of the underlying stellar population
and the expected aging between z ≈ 1 and z ≈ 0 can not be quantified. We will present first results of our attempt to replace
the observed templates with model spectra from the PEGASE code (Fioc and Rocca-Volmerange, 1997), in order to get a better
handle on the star formation history.

Interferometers require accurate determination of the array configuration in order to produce reliable observations. A method is presented for finding the maximum-likelihood estimate of the telescope geometry, and of other instrumental parameters, astrometrically from the visibility timelines obtained from observations of celestial calibrator sources. The method copes systematically with complicated and unconventional antenna and array geometries, with electronic bandpasses that are different for each antenna radiometer, and with low signal-to-noise ratios for the calibrators. The technique automatically focuses on the geometry errors that are most significant for astronomical observation. We apply this method to observations made with the Very Small Array and constrain some 450 telescope parameters, such as the antenna positions, effective observing frequencies and correlator amplitudes and phaseshifts; this requires only ∼1 h of CPU time on a typical workstation. 相似文献

Abstract— Thermodynamic analysis of the compositional profiles across large chemically‐zoned Fe, Ni metal grains in the Bencubbin‐like chondrite Queen Alexandra Range (QUE) 94411 suggests that these grains formed by non‐equilibrium gas‐solid condensation under variable oxidizing conditions, isolation degree, and Cr depletion factors. The oxidizing conditions must have resulted from the complete vaporization of nebular regions with enhanced dust/gas ratios (~ 10–40 × solar). Because the origin of each of the metal grains studied requires different condensation parameters (dust/gas ratio, isolation degree, and Cr depletion factor), a high degree of heterogeneity in the formation region of the Bencubbin‐like chondrite metal is required. To preserve compositional zoning of the metal grains and prevent their melting and sulfidization, the grains must have been removed from the hot condensation region into cold regions where the accretion of the Bencubbin‐like asteroidal body took place. 相似文献

Data on the variation of the orbital inclination of the balloon satellite Explorer 24 (1964-76A) from 1964 to 1968 have been used to determine zonal winds between 540 and 620 km. In this height region the effect of zonal winds on the orbital inclination may become very small compared to other perturbations like accelerations due to the geopotential, lunisolar gravitation and the solar radiation pressure. It is demonstrated especially that the solar radiation pressure may become the most significant force changing the orbital inclination. The diurnal mean zonal winds derived from Explorer 24 point to an exospheric rotation rate which is about 6–10% less than the rotation rate of the Earth in the analyzed height region. Since the possible errors of the data analysis are of a similar order of magnitude, it can not be excluded that the exosphere corotates with the Earth. Furthermore, a local time dependence of the zonal winds could be detected. The diurnal varitation of the zonal wind is shown to be in good agreement with the theoretical model of Blum and Harris. Our results are discussed and compared with all previous investigations of orbital inclination changes of satellites above 350 km. 相似文献

Lithic fragments in LL-group chondrites commonly have poikilitic textures, in part or in whole, where mainly olivine is enclosed by orthopyroxene. Partially poikilitic fragments also have grano-blastic areas and anhedral olivine larger than the olivine enclosed by pyroxene. In analogy to lunar poikilitic rocks and lithic fragments, poikilitic lithic fragments in LL-group chondrites, i.e., meteorites which are highly brecciated due to repeated impacts, are also interpreted as being related to impact events on meteorite parent bodies where melting and reheating of protolith occurred. Compositional characteristics of minerals in certain fragments, such as highly-unequilibrated clinopyroxene (CaO, 14.5 to 17.3 wt %; Al2O3, 6.7%) and relatively high CaO (0.70 to 2.5 wt %) in orthopyroxene in a Ngawi fragment, seem to indicate a melt origin. However, as in the lunar case, it is difficult to decide whether the meteoritic poikilitic textures resulted from complete or partial melting or largely by solid-state recrystallization, although the large olivines that may be relict crystals appear to indicate that at least partial melting was involved. In all probability, all three processes are responsible for the poikilitic textures in chondrites, since temperature regimes produced by impact processes are likely to range widely. These interpretations may also apply to the poikilitic-textured Shaw chondrite, L-group, which may owe its poikilitic texture to impact partial-melting processes while in the parent body regolith. 相似文献
