Seasonal changes in mesozooplankton biomass and their community structures were observed at time-series stations K2 (subarctic) and S1 (subtropical) in the western North Pacific Ocean. At K2, the maximum biomass was observed during the spring when primary productivity was still low. The annual mean biomasses in the euphotic and 200- to 1000-m layers were 1.39 (day) and 2.49 (night) g C m?2 and 4.00 (day) and 3.63 (night) g C m?2, respectively. Mesozooplankton vertical distribution was bimodal and mesopelagic peak was observed in a 200- to 300-m layer; it mainly comprised dormant copepods. Copepods predominated in most sampling layers, but euphausiids were dominant at the surface during the night. At S1, the maximum biomass was observed during the spring and the peak timing of biomass followed those of chlorophyll a and primary productivity. The annual mean biomasses in the euphotic and 200- to 1000-m layers were 0.10 (day) and 0.21 (night) g C m?2 and 0.47 (day) and 0.26 (night) g C m?2, respectively. Copepods were dominant in most sampling layers, but their mean proportion was lower than that in K2. Mesozooplankton community characteristics at both sites were compared with those at other time-series stations in the North Pacific and with each other. The annual mean primary productivities and sinking POC fluxes were equivalent at both sites; however, mesozooplankton biomasses were higher at K2 than at S1. Results of rocket observations of SCO X-1 over the spectral range of 220 keV are presented. The observations have been performed partly in India and partly in Japan under the collaboration of the three groups. The present results are compared with results of similar observations carried out by the LRL (Lawrence Radiation Laboratory) group. Some of these X-ray observations were accompanied by simultaneous optical observations. Relationships between the hardness of the X-ray spectrum and the X-ray intensity and between the hardness and the optical luminosity are compiled. The relationships among the parameters (temperature, density and size) which characterize the postulated isothermal cloud model of SCO X-1 are given. They indicate that SCO X-1 is characterized by a temperature of about 107–108K, a density of about 1016–1017 cm–3 and a radius of about 108–109 cm respectively. We further show that the temperature is inversely correlated with the size of the source; an increase in temperature corresponds to a decrease in the radius and an increase in density. 相似文献

A mixture containing equal amounts of forsterite and grossularite by weight (Fo50Gr50) has been studied at temperatures between 750 and 1400°C under pressures ranging from 6 to 25 kbar in presence of excess water. The assemblages noted under low pressure (<8 kbar) are as follows: Diopsidess+forsteritess+monticellitess+vapor and Diopsidess+forsteritess+monticellitess+liquid+vapor. (ss denotes solid solution) Under intermediate pressures between 8 and 24 kbar following assemblages were noted in the order of increasing temperature: Diopsidess+forsteritess+spinel+vapor, Diopsidess+forsteritess+spinel+liquid+vapor, Diopsidess+forsteritess+liquid+vapor, and Forsteritess+liquid+vapor. At pressures above 24 kbar the assemblages are as follows: Diopsidess+forsteritess+garnet+vapor, Diopsidess+forsteritess+garnet+liquid+vapor, Diopsidess+forsteritess+liquid+vapor, and Forsteritess+liquid+vapor. Electron microprobe analyses of diopside and forsterite crystallized at 1050°C and 23 kbar, show that the former contains 6 to 6.5 wt % of Al2O3 as solid solution whereas the latter incorporates 1.3 wt % of monticellite in solid solution. The monticellite content of forsterite increases at low pressures at a given temperature to about 6 wt % at 1050°C and 6 kbar. The study indicates that forsteritic olivine does not coexist with pure grossularite in the studied temperature and pressure ranges, although the former is in equilibrium with pyrope-rich garnet, containing 23 mole % grossularite. The study supports the conclusion ofWerner andLuth (1973) that the solubility of monticellite in forsterite decreases with increasing pressure at a given temperature. The results of the investigation are also in agreement with the findings ofKushiro andYoder (1966), who noted that spinel peridotites found in folded belts and in alkalic basalts are produced under intermediate pressures, whereas garnet peridotite xenoliths found in kimberlite and in orogenic belts are formed at high pressures. 相似文献

It is well known that heavy oil (HO) on the sea surface causes serious problems in the aquatic environment. In particular, some species of teleosts which develop on the sea surface are thought to be affected by the HO which flows out from tankers or coastal industry. However, the toxicological effects of HO are not fully understood. We performed exposure experiments using the Pleuronectiformean fish, spotted halibut (Verasper variegatus), which is an important fishery resource in Japan. In course of the development, HO-exposed embryos showed remarkable delay in developmental processes including somite formation. We further observed abnormal development of the head morphology. Notably, treated embryos had relatively small eyes and craniofacial structures. These findings strongly suggest that HO seriously affects the cell proliferation and differentiation of the embryo. In addition, HO-exposed embryos showed abnormal neuronal development. We also performed the exposure in the larval stage. Treatment of post-hatching larvae with HO resulted in significantly greater mortality compared with controls. Through these observations, we finally conclude that HO is strongly toxic to halibut in their early life stages. 相似文献

High(C2/c)-low(P21/c) phase transition in clinoenstatite and pigeonite was successfully observed in situ at high temperatures for the first time under a transmission electron microscope. The phase transition was revealed to possess the characteristics of a first-order transition, due to the coexistence of both phases separated by the sharp interfaces and the nucleation-growth process. The diffusionless and time-independent reaction suggests that the transition occurs athermal-martensitically. Furthermore, the small or even negative thermal hysteresis and the interface motion suggest that the transition is not a typical type but a thermoelastic type of the martensitic transformation. This type of the transformation, studied extensively in metallurgy in relation to shape memory effect, is first recognized in rock-forming minerals. 相似文献

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of the influence of the Al-O-Al linkage on the P&1macr;-I&1macr; phase transition of
pure anorthite (An) were carried out using two different types of structures with fully ordered (FO) and partially disordered
(PD) arrangements of Al/Si in tetrahedral sites. Discontinuous changes in unit cell volumes and structure factors at the transition
temperature were observed in FO-An but not in PD-An. These results show that the orders of the transitions of FO-An and PD-An
are first and non-first, respectively. In both structures, the motions of the Ca atoms and the framework are strongly correlated
with each other during the transition and Ca atoms dominate the system. Since high-temperature X-ray studies have shown that
the transition of natural anorthite is non-first order, it is suggested that the natural anorthite has a partially disordered
arrangement of Al and Si atoms.

Using the Am components in spectroscopic binaries, the region of metallicism in the (logm, logR) diagram is statistically discussed. The metallic-line characteristics appear in a slightly evolved stage near the Main Sequence within a belt characterized by logg=3.8–4.2, for which the radiiR/R
=1.5–2.7. The distribution in the diagram indicates that appreciable differences should exist in the abundances as well as in the mixing lengths of the atmospheres of the Am components.Synchronism between rotation and revolution for the Am components is discussed, and it is clearly found that the synchronism holds accurately for the Am binaries with periods less than about six days, but for those with periods between six and ten days some Am components corotate and some do not, perhaps depending upon their ages.Using the Am spectroscopic binaries with periods less than twelve days, we find that the excess of metallicity is statistically correlated with the rotational velocity; and it is confirmed that the metallicity grossly decreases with increasing rotational velocity. If the effect of a non-Am secondary component is eliminated from a [m
1]-value for the combined light, the correlation between metallicity excess and rotational velocity for the Am components only should approach [m

Observations of nine oxygen- and sulfur-containing organic molecules have been made toward the cold dark clouds TMC-1 and L134N. We have confirmed the presence of para-ketene (H2C2O) in TMC-1, have for the first time observed ortho-ketene, and find a total ketene column density approximately 1 x 10(13) cm-2. Thioformaldehyde (H2CS) is easily detectable in both TMC-1 and L134N, with a column density about 5 times larger in the former source (approximately 3 x 10(13) cm-2). The fractional abundance of ketene is comparable to the predictions of ion-molecule chemistry, while that of thioformaldehyde in TMC-1 is one to two orders of magnitude greater than that expected from such models at steady state. Interstellar sulfur chemistry thus continues to be poorly understood. We set upper limits for the column densities of formic acid (HCOOH), vinyl alcohol (CH2CHOH), methyl formate (HCO2CH3), formamide (NH2CHO), methyl mercaptan (CH3SH), isothiocyanic acid (HNCS), and thioketene (H2C2S) in both sources. 相似文献
