The water level of a seawater gauging station and 18 groundwater wells coupled with atmospheric pressure in southwestern
Taiwan are analyzed by using spectral analysis in time and frequency domain. The semidiurnal component is found to be the
most significant signal from the measurement of water level and atmospheric pressure, and the diurnal component is less distinctive
in part of water level and atmospheric pressure record. Although auto-spectral and cross-spectral density functions are significant
in atmospheric pressure and water level, the pressure variations do not significantly affect the seawater and the majority
of groundwater level in the study area with amplitude of time series observations. The astronomical tidal components are likely
the main factor causing seawater and groundwater level to fluctuate in Pingtung, Taiwan. Time lags are estimated from 20 min
to a few hours in aquifers. It concludes that the disturbance on groundwater levels from the effect of oceanic astronomical
tide is different from the varying hydrogeological characteristics of aquifer. In this study, the spectral analysis of water
level in time and frequency domains gives strong indications of sensitive variations to water level fluctuation.

The 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake triggered the catastrophic Tsaoling landslide in central Taiwan. We mapped the landslide area and estimated the landslide volume, using high-resolution digital elevation model from airborne LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), satellite images, aerial photographs and topographic maps. The comparison between cut and fill volumes, about 0.126 and 0.150 km3, respectively, suggests a volume increase of 19% due to decompaction during landsliding. In April 2002, the cut and fill volumes were about 0.137 and 0.116 km3, respectively. These estimates suggest that 2.5 years after the event, the volume of landslide debris removed by river erosion was nearly 0.045 km3. Such a large value highlights the importance of landslide processes for erosion and long-term denudation in the Taiwan mountain belt. To cite this article: R.-F. Chen et al., C. R. Summary The approximate solution for the disturbance of a uniform heat flow in a homogeneous semi-infinite medium by an object of different thermal conductivity buried in it is generally used in the interpretation of heat flow anomalies on the ocean bottom. In order to know the accuracy of the approximate solution, a comparison between the approximate solution and the exact solution is given in the case of a very long horizontal cylinder in a semi-infinite medium. The computed results indicate that the two solutions agree to within 10% whend>1.3 and 0.5<<2, whered is ratio of the depth to the radiusR
0 of the cylinder and is the factor of the contrast of the thermal conductivities between the medium and the body. As for the cases when 1 and 1, the same accuracy can be obtained only whend>2. A similar approach is also applied to the case of a spherical conductor in a semi-infinite medium by using a bispherical harmonic solution. This study explores the effectiveness of disaster prevention programs using virtual reality and partial least squares techniques. The purpose is to gain an understanding of IS (information system) usage and acceptance behaviors, mainly the users’ acceptance of virtual reality, as well as provide a reference for future disaster prevention programs. Virtual reality is an important part of this process and needs a lot of special skills like knowledge of software and hardware for its development. To date, virtual reality has been used in many ways, such as in movies, for medical treatment and for educational training. This model incorporates the technology acceptance model, technology acceptance model 2 and IS success model and uses the partial least squares technique for structural modeling. The results indicate that virtual reality learning self-efficacy, subjective norms, system quality, information quality and service quality have a significant influence on perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and playfulness. Considering the users’ intention to use and attitude while using virtual reality, playfulness is more significant than either perceived usefulness or perceived ease of use. 相似文献

This study examined the Kaoping River basin, Taiwan, an area severely destroyed by Typhoon Morakot in 2009. Dynamically downscaled data were applied to simulate extreme typhoon precipitation events for facilitating future preparation efforts (2075–2099) under climate change conditions. Models were used to simulate possible impacts in upstream and downstream areas for basinwide disaster loss assessment purposes. The Transient Rainfall Infiltration and Grid-Based Regional Slope-Stability and FLO-2D models were applied to simulate slope-land disaster impacts and sediment volume in the upstream area. The sediment delivery ratio was used to calculate the valid sediment amount delivered downstream and the riverbed uplift altitude. SOBEK was used to build a flood impact model for the Kaoping River basin, and the model was used to simulate potential flooding caused by future extreme typhoon events. The Taiwan Typhoon Loss Assessment System established by the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction was used to evaluate the potential loss associated with extreme events. The property loss calculation included 32 land-use categories, including agriculture, forestry, fishery, and animal husbandry losses; industrial and commercial service losses; public building losses; and traffic and hydraulic facility losses. One of the Kaoping River basin townships, Daliao District, had the highest flood depth increase ratio (12.6%), and the losses were 1.5 times the original situation. This was much worse than were the losses suffered during Typhoon Morakot. These results also show that sediment delivered from the upstream areas had a significant influence on the downstream areas. This study explores the effectiveness of disaster prevention programs using NXT control techniques. The purpose of the cultivation of scientific literacy is to develop a more rational, scientific perspective on the current social changes and the impact of natural disasters. Using NXT as an effective scientific tool to support science education, we can further explore science education for the development of scientific literacy. The expectation confirmation model and technology acceptance model are used to explain the effect of technology products on the user??s satisfaction and intention. However, for the interpretation of scientific literacy, there is a lack of environmental and cognitive factors. So we combine social cognitive theory with social and scientific theories in our exploration of the use of NXT for the dominant effect of scientific literacy. The results demonstrate that users?? self-efficacy and the ease of use of NXT have low significance on use of scientific tools, but, at the end, it did not affect the user wishes. The interactions of NXT features and climate are the main causes of enhanced user intentions. Therefore, environmental factors are identified as an important reason for the development of scientific literacy. The results of this study on scientific literacy stimulate more directions for discussion. 相似文献

Water levels of the five river stages in the Taipei Basin are analyzed by using spectral analysis in time-frequency domain
through one-year hourly data. The autospectral and cross-spectral density function, coherence, phase angle and associated
statistic parameters are studied. The semi-diurnal, diurnal and quarter-diurnal tidal components are significant for river
stages, which are also apparently related to astronomical tides of M2, S2, N2, S1, O1 and M4, MK4 or MS4 respectively. The time lags versus propagation distance are shown as linear distribution for two stream systems. The time
lags are 3.2, 4.0 and 2.5 (h) for semi-diurnal, diurnal and quarter-diurnal components in Tanshui River – Tanhan Stream system,
while 3.5, 3.5 and 2.2 (h) in Tanshui River – Hsintien Stream system.

Lengths of intermediate and deep seismic zones and temperatures in downgoing slabs of lithosphere 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Summary. If intermediate and deep earthquakes occur in the coldest portions of the downgoing slabs of lithosphere, then different lengths of seismic zones represent different temperatures in the slabs. As the slab descends through the aesthenosphere, it warms primarily by conduction of heat through its upper and lower surfaces. Isotherms are advected downwards to distances approximately proportional both to the rate of subduction and to the square of the thickness of the lithosphere. Consequently, the lengths of seismic zones should be approximately proportional to the product of the rates and the squares of these thicknesses. As these thicknesses are approximately proportional to the square root of the age of the lithosphere, the lengths ought therefore to be approximately proportional to the product of the convergence rates times the ages. Although there is considerable scatter, observed lengths are approximately proportional to such products, and are not simply related to the rate, the age or the thickness alone. The data crudely fit the relationship: length = rate × age/10. Using this relationship, we infer that the Philippine sea and Pacific plates move slowly, if at all, with respect to one another and that the Farallon plate may have been too young to be subducted to a great distance beneath western North America in the Palaeogene. Calculations of temperatures at the depths of the deepest events suggest that these cut-off temperatures increase from about 600 ± 100°C at 200 km to 830 ± 50°C at 650 km depth, but the cut-off potential temperature is approximately constant. Assuming that the strength is a thermally activated parameter, and using the activation energy for olivine, a crude estimate of activation volume is obtained from the dependence of the cut-off temperature on depth. 相似文献

The bulk matrix domain of the Martian breccia NWA 7034 was examined petrographically and isotopically to better understand the provenance and age of the source material that make up the breccia. Both 147Sm‐143Nd and 146Sm‐142Nd age results for mineral separates from the bulk matrix portion of breccia NWA 7034 suggest that various lithological components in the breccia probably formed contemporaneously ~4.44 Ga ago. This old age is in excellent agreement with the upper intersection ages (4.35–4.45 Ga) for U‐Pb discordia and also concordia defined by zircon and baddeleyite grains in matrix and igneous‐textured clasts. Consequently, we confirm an ancient age for the igneous components that make up the NWA 7034 breccia. Substantial disturbance in the Rb‐Sr system was detected, and no age significance could be gleaned from our Rb‐Sr data. The disturbance to the Rb‐Sr system may be due to a thermal event recorded by bulk‐rock K‐Ar ages of 1.56 Ga and U‐Pb ages of phosphates at about 1.35–1.5 Ga, which suggest partial resetting from an unknown thermal event(s), possibly accompanying breccia formation. The NWA 7034 bulk rock is LREE enriched and similar to KREEP‐rich lunar rocks, which indicates that the earliest Martian crust was geochemically enriched. This enrichment supports the idea that the crust is one of the enriched geochemical reservoirs on Mars that have been detected in studies of other Martian meteorites. 相似文献
