Eucrites are basaltic meteorites that cooled rapidly but are in many instances thermally metamorphosed and impact brecciated. The exact timing of these events remains unclear. In this study, Ni isotopic compositions and Fe/Ni elemental ratios are presented for two non-cumulate eucrites, Bouvante and Juvinas, including mineral separates from the latter. The samples are characterized by variable, well-resolved 60Ni-excesses consistent with the former presence of live 60Fe (t1/2 = 2.62 Ma) at the time of eucrite crystallization. A significant fraction of Ni with a terrestrial-like composition appears to be surface correlated. This Ni may be the product of terrestrial contamination or was introduced by a chondritic impactor during brecciation. Altogether, the data provide evidence for a complex and probably multi-stage history of Fe and/or Ni redistribution, which impedes the interpretation of the chronological data.  相似文献

Asymmetric-Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (AsFlFFF) coupled to an inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) was used to determine whether colloidal As exists in mine tailings from abandoned Au mine sites in Nova Scotia. Using this technique, the chemical composition and the size of the colloidal material was determined. Tailings samples were collected from the sites and leachates were analyzed. The resulting fractograms showed the presence of colloidal As. Arsenic co-elutes with Fe and Al suggesting that the As is associated with colloids containing these elements. The colloidal material present in the samples has a calculated median size of 7 nm. The leachates were also analyzed for totalAs, Fe and Al using ICP-MS. The colloidal fraction was determined to account for approximately 20% of the total dissolved As present in these samples. Dissolved As concentrations at the selected mine sites are very high and the arbitrary cutoff for dissolved still incorporates colloidal material. Therefore. it is important to distinguish between truly dissolved and colloidal As as the speciation will affect the toxicity and mobility of As at these locations.  相似文献

Female and male individuals of the same species often differ with respect to their susceptibility to toxicant stress. In the present study, sea urchins (Psammechinus miliaris) of both sexes were exposed to high (150 μg L?1) and environmentally relevant (5 μg L?1) concentrations of phenanthrene over 10 days. While food intake was significantly decreased following exposure to 150 μg L?1 phenanthrene, histological indices (lipofuscin accumulation, fibrosis, oocyte atresia), energetic status (energy charge, sum adenylates, AMP/ATP ratio) as well as ascorbate levels in the gonads showed either little or no effect upon phenanthrene exposure. However, most parameters (vitamin C, energy charge, sum adenylates, AMP/ATP ratio, ATP and ADP concentrations, lipofuscin content, fibrosis) significantly differed between male and female animals. This study illustrates the difficulties to identify toxic injury in reproductive tissue as it may be superimposed by gametogenesis and spawning of gametes.  相似文献

Stochastic differential equations (SDEs) offer an attractively simple solution to complex transport-controlled problems, and have a wide range of physical, chemical, and biological applications, which are dominated by stochastic processes, such as diffusion. As for deterministic ordinary differential equations (ODEs), various numerical scheme exist for solving SDEs. In this paper various particle-tracking schemes are presented and tested for accuracy and efficiency (time vs. accuracy). To test the schemes, the particle tracking algorithms are implemented into a community wide used 1D water column model. Modelling individual particles allows a straightforward physical interpretation of the involved processes. Further, this approach is strictly mass conserving and does not suffer from the numerical diffusion that plagues grid-based methods. Moreover, the Lagrangian framework allows to assign properties to the individual particles, that can vary spatially and temporally. The movement of the particles is described by a stochastic differential equation, which is consistent with the advection–diffusion equation. Here, the concentration profile is represented by a set of independent moving particles, which are advected according to the velocity field, while the diffusive displacements of the particles are sampled from a random distribution, which is related to the eddy diffusivity field.The paper will show that especially the 2nd order schemes are accurate and highly efficient. At the same level of accuracy, the 2nd order scheme can be significantly faster than the 1st order counterpart. This gain in efficiency can be spent on a higher resolution for more accurate solutions at a lower cost.  相似文献

Granitoid rock samples from the assumed center of the Keurusselkä impact site were subjected to a systematic study of fluid‐inclusion compositions and densities in various microstructures of the shocked quartz. The results are consistent with the following impact‐induced model of formation. After cessation of all major regional tectonic activity and advanced erosional uplift of the Fennoscandian shield, a meteorite impact (approximately 1.1 Ga) caused the formation of planar fractures (PFs) and planar deformation features (PDFs) and the migration of shock‐liberated metamorphic fluid (CO2 ± H2O) to the glass in the PDFs. Postimpact annealing of the PDFs led to the formation of CO2 (±H2O) fluid‐inclusion decorated PDFs. The scarce fluid‐inclusion implosion textures (IPs) suggest a shock pressure of 7.6–10 GPa. The postimpact pressure release and associated heating initiated hydrothermal activity that caused re‐opening of some PFs and their partial filling by moderate‐salinity/high temperature (>200 °C) H2O (+ chlorite + quartz) and moderate‐density CO2. The youngest postimpact endogenic sub‐ and nonplanar microfractures (MFs) are characterized by low‐density CO2 and low‐salinity/low‐temperature (<200 °C) H2O.  相似文献

Cu- and Mn-bearing tourmalines from Brazil and Mozambique were characterised chemically (EMPA and LA-ICP-MS) and by X-ray single-crystal structure refinement. All these samples are rich in Al, Li and F (fluor-elbaite) and contain significant amounts of CuO (up to ~1.8 wt%) and MnO (up to ~3.5 wt%). Structurally investigated samples show a pronounced positive correlation between the <Y-O> distances and the (Li + Mn2+ + Cu + Fe2+) content (apfu) at this site with R 2 = 0.90. An excellent negative correlation exists between the <Y-O> distances and the Al2O3 content (R 2 = 0.94). The samples at each locality generally show a strong negative correlation between the X-site vacancies and the (MnO + FeO) content. The Mn content in these tourmalines depends on the availability of Mn, on the formation temperature, as well as on stereochemical constraints. Because of a very weak correlation between MnO and CuO we believe that the Cu content in tourmaline is essentially dependent on the availability of Cu and on stereochemical constraints.  相似文献

During carbon steel manufacture, slag residues are generated to remove material impurities from liquid metal and thus control the quality of carbon steel. As the utilization of secondary metallurgical slags is not as efficient as those of primary slags, a comprehensive characterization of steel ladle slag was performed. Pseudo-total concentrations of a wide range of elements were determined during a 6-week sampling period with relevant physical and chemical properties, sequential extraction of trace elements, and parallel mineralogical characterization of extraction residues from a representative combined sample. According to the results, only Cr and V occurred in elevated concentrations with respective 6-week mean values of 198 and 310 mg kg?1 (d.w.). The residual standard deviation of the weekly pseudo-total concentration values of the aforementioned elements (24 and 31 %, respectively) indicated that significant variation in the concentration of trace elements can occur due to fluctuation in process conditions and/or slag characteristics. The sequential extraction procedure suggested potential phytoavailability of V (123 mg kg?1, d.w., amounting to 41 % of the respective pseudo-total concentration) through, e.g., changes in prevailing redox conditions. Although the analytical approach was validated by the analysis of a certified reference material and the calculation of extraction recoveries, the mineralogical characterization of parallel extraction residues indicated non-selectivity of the procedure coupled with potential redistribution phenomena during extraction with hydrogen peroxide and ammonium acetate.  相似文献

The Sabatier reaction is a key process in the “power-to-gas” application which is considered to contribute to future chemical energy storage systems. In this contribution we focus on the catalytic active sites of a NiO catalyst supported on SiO2 (NiO/SiO2) which is commonly used in the Sabatier reaction. A novel technique for the characterization of the active sites is presented and discussed using thermal desorption spectroscopy at ambient pressure. This analytical tool is operated under reaction conditions and allows element specific measurements during the catalytic process of CO2 reforming towards methane. Beside the desorption experiments, XPS and XAS measurements of pristine and catalytically used samples are performed to determine the influence of the Sabatier reaction conditions on the surface structure of the catalyst.  相似文献

We report on the coronal hole (CH) influence on the 54 magnetic cloud (MC) and non-MC associated coronal mass ejections (CMEs) selected for studies during the Coordinated Data Analysis Workshops (CDAWs) focusing on the question if all CMEs are flux ropes. All selected CMEs originated from source regions located between longitudes 15E?–?15W. Xie, Gopalswamy, and St. Cyr (2013, Solar Phys., doi: 10.1007/s11207-012-0209-0 ) found that these MC and non-MC associated CMEs are on average deflected towards and away from the Sun–Earth line, respectively. We used a CH influence parameter (CHIP) that depends on the CH area, average magnetic field strength, and distance from the CME source region to describe the influence of all on-disk CHs on the erupting CME. We found that for CHIP values larger than 2.6 G the MC and non-MC events separate into two distinct groups where MCs (non-MCs) are deflected towards (away) from the disk center. Division into two groups was also observed when the distance to the nearest CH was less than 3.2×105 km. At CHIP values less than 2.6 G or at distances of the nearest CH larger than 3.2×105 km the deflection distributions of the MC and non-MCs started to overlap, indicating diminishing CH influence. These results give support to the idea that all CMEs are flux ropes, but those observed to be non-MCs at 1 AU could be deflected away from the Sun–Earth line by nearby CHs, making their flux rope structure unobservable at 1 AU.  相似文献

We investigated a set of 54 interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) events whose solar sources are very close to the disk center (within ±?15° from the central meridian). The ICMEs consisted of 23 magnetic-cloud (MC) events and 31 non-MC events. Our analyses suggest that the MC and non-MC ICMEs have more or less the same eruption characteristics at the Sun in terms of soft X-ray flares and CMEs. Both types have significant enhancements in ion charge states, although the non-MC structures have slightly lower levels of enhancement. The overall duration of charge-state enhancement is also considerably smaller than that in MCs as derived from solar wind plasma and magnetic signatures. We find very good correlation between the Fe and O charge-state measurements and the flare properties such as soft X-ray flare intensity and flare temperature for both MCs and non-MCs. These observations suggest that both MC and non-MC ICMEs are likely to have a flux-rope structure and the unfavorable observational geometry may be responsible for the appearance of non-MC structures at 1 AU. We do not find any evidence for an active region expansion resulting in ICMEs lacking a flux-rope structure because the mechanism of producing high charge states and the flux-rope structure at the Sun is the same for MC and non-MC events.  相似文献
