This paper describes the use of the Stable Point Network technique, a Persistent Scatterer Interferometry SAR technique, for
the analysis of the Portalet landslide area (Central Pyrenees, Spain). For this purpose, different SAR datasets acquired by
ERS-1, ERS-2, ENVISAT and TerraSAR-X satellites have been analysed. The use of different SAR images acquired by satellite
radar sensors operating at different microwave lengths has allowed for a comparative assessment and illustration of the advantages
and disadvantages of these satellites for landslide detection and monitoring. In the introduction, differential interferometry
and the study area are briefly described. Then the specifics of the SPN processing and the results of the different datasets
are described and compared. In Analysis of the results: the Portalet landslide area, the Portalet landslide area is introduced
and the radar displacement measurements are analysed with available geo-information data. Additionally, X-band measurements
are compared with those gathered by a ground-based SAR for a previous project. Finally, the most relevant conclusions of this

In the high-permeability, semiarid carbonate aquifer in the Sierra de Gádor Mountains (southeastern Spain), some local springs
draining shallow perched aquifers were of assistance in assessing applicability of the atmospheric chloride mass balance (CMB)
for quantifying total yearly recharge (R
T) by rainfall. Two contrasting hydrological years (October through September) were selected to evaluate the influence of climate
on recharge: the average rainfall year 2003–2004, and the unusually dry 2004–2005. Results at small catchment scale were calibrated
with estimated daily stand-scale R
T obtained by means of a soil water balance (SWB) of rainfall, using the actual evapotranspiration measured by the eddy covariance
(EC) technique. R
T ranged from 0.35 to 0.40 of rainfall in the year, with less than a 5% difference between the CMB and SWB methods in 2003–2004.
R
T varied from less than 0.05 of rainfall at mid-elevation to 0.20 at high elevation in 2004–2005, with a similar difference
between the methods. Diffuse recharge (R
D) by rainfall was quantified from daily soil water content field data to split R
T into R
D and the expected concentrated recharge (R
C) at catchment scale in both hydrological years. R
D was 0.16 of rainfall in 2003–2004 and 0.01 in 2004–2005. Under common 1- to 3-day rainfall events, the hydraulic effect of
R
D is delayed from 1 day to 1 week, while R
C is not delayed. This study shows that the CMB method is a suitable tool for yearly values complementing and extending the
more widely used SWB in ungauged mountain carbonate aquifers with negligible runoff. The slight difference between R
T rates at small catchment and stand scales enables results to be validated and provides new estimates to parameterize R
T with rainfall depth after checking the weight of diffuse and concentrated mechanisms on R

Recent structures in the Alboran Ridge and Yusuf fault zones based on swath bathymetry and sub-bottom profiling: evidence of active tectonics 总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
The seafloor of the Alboran Sea in the western Mediterranean is disrupted by deformations resulting from convergence between
the African and Eurasian plates. Based on a compilation of existing and new multibeam bathymetry data and high-resolution
seismic profiles, our main objective was to characterize the most recent structures in the central sector, which depicts an
abrupt morphology and was chosen to investigate how active tectonic processes are shaping the seafloor. The Alboran Ridge
is the most prominent feature in the Alboran Sea (>130 km in length), and a key element in the Gibraltar Arc System. Recent
uplift and deformation in this ridge have been caused by sub-vertical, strike-slip and reverse faults with associated folding
in the most recent sediments, their trend shifting progressively from SW–NE to WNW–ESE towards the Yusuf Lineament. Present-day
transtensive deformation induces faulting and subsidence in the Yusuf pull-apart basin. The Alboran Ridge and Yusuf fault
zones are connected, and both constitute a wide zone of deformation reaching tens of kilometres in width and showing a complex
geometry, including different active fault segments and in-relay folds. These findings demonstrate that Recent deformation
is more heterogeneously distributed than commonly considered. A narrow SSW–NNE zone with folding and reverse faulting cuts
across the western end of the Alboran Ridge and concentrates most of the upper crustal seismicity in the region. This zone
of deformation defines a seismogenic, left-lateral fault zone connected to the south with the Al Hoceima seismic swarm, and
representing a potential seismic hazard. Newly detected buried and active submarine slides along the Alboran Ridge and the
Yusuf Lineament are clear signs of submarine slope instability in this seismically active region. 相似文献

Solar Radiation Management (SRM) has two characteristics that make it useful for managing climate risk: it is quick and it is cheap. SRM cannot, however, perfectly offset CO2-driven climate change, and its use introduces novel climate and environmental risks. We introduce SRM in a simple economic model of climate change that is designed to explore the interaction between uncertainty in the climate’s response to CO2 and the risks of SRM in the face of carbon-cycle inertia. The fact that SRM can be implemented quickly, reducing the effects of inertia, makes it a valuable tool to manage climate risks even if it is relatively ineffective at compensating for CO2-driven climate change or if its costs are large compared to traditional abatement strategies. Uncertainty about SRM is high, and decision makers must decide whether or not to commit to research that might reduce this uncertainty. We find that even modest reductions in uncertainty about the side-effects of SRM can reduce the overall costs of climate change in the order of 10%. 相似文献
