High resolution on- and off-band Hα filtergrams of disk solar surges obtained with the Vacuum Tower Telescope of the Sacramento Peak Observatory have been compared to magnetic data.
- Surges constitute clusters of very fine dark (sometimes bright) filaments where each thread connects to an Ellerman bomb brightening. If the magnetic map reveals the existence of a satellite polarity as defined by Rust (1968), the bomb(s) lies over it.
- Although a large fraction of surges is not associated with clearly detectable satellite polarities, events are strongly favored in regions of evolving magnetic features, characterized by dimensions of about 10 000 km and significant flux change over a period of less than a day. A flux change rate of 3 × 1015 Mx s?1 has been measured along at least three homologous bomb-surge events in a satellite of region MW 18594. Surges appear to be related to rising flux of one polarity into a region of stronger opposite flux.
- The trajectories of surges are matched by magnetic lines of force computed in the current-free approximation.

We use observations of the green corona low-brightness regions to construct a time series of a polar coronal hole area from 1939 to 1996, covering 5 solar cycles. We then perform a power-spectral analysis of the monthly data time series. Several persistent significant periodicities appear in the spectra, which are related with those found in solar magnetic flux emergence, geomagnetic storm sudden commencements and cosmic-ray flux at Earth. Of particular importance are the peak at around 1.6–1.8 yr recently found in cosmic-ray intensity fluctuations, and the peak at around 1 yr, also identified in coronal hole magnetic flux variations. Additional interesting features are the peaks close to 5 yr, 3 yr and the possible peak at around 30 yr, that were also found in other solar and interplanetary phenomena. Our results stress the physical connection between the solar magnetic flux emergence and the interplanetary medium dynamics, in particular the importance of coronal hole evolution in the structuring of the heliosphere. 相似文献

Abstract– Space weathering products, such as agglutinates and nanophase iron‐bearing rims are easily preserved through lithification in lunar regolith breccias, thus such products, if produced, should be preserved in asteroidal regolith breccias as well. A study of representative regolith breccia meteorites, Fayetteville (H4) and Kapoeta (howardite), was undertaken to search for physical evidence of space weathering on asteroids. Amorphous or npFe0‐bearing rims cannot be positively identified in Fayetteville, although possible glass rims were found. Extensive friction melt was discovered in the meteorite that is difficult to differentiate from weathered materials. Several melt products, including spherules and agglutinates, as well as one irradiated rim and one possible npFe0‐bearing rim were identified in Kapoeta. The existence of these products suggests that lunar‐like space weathering processes are, or have been, active on asteroids. 相似文献

In this paper, the present status of the development of the design of the European Solar Telescope is described. The telescope is devised to have the best possible angular resolution and polarimetric performance, maximizing the throughput of the whole system. To that aim, adaptive optics and multi‐conjugate adaptive optics are integrated in the optical path. The system will have the possibility to correct for the diurnal variation of the distance to the turbulence layers, by using several deformable mirrors, conjugated at different heights. The present optical design of the telescope distributes the optical elements along the optical path in such a way that the instrumental polarization induced by the telescope is minimized and independent of the solar elevation and azimuth. Mode trapping of high-radial order gravity modes was found for a particular sdO model. The trapping is caused by the change in composition from the helium radiative shell to the hydrogen burning shell. A non-adiabatic effect of this trapping is the higher tendency to instability of the trapped modes. Low- to intermediate-radial order pressure modes (in sdO models they correspond to mixed modes with most nodes in the P-mode region) are found to be trapped by the chemical transition from the carbon-oxygen core to the He burning shell. As the trapping is produced in the deep interior of the star, where energy interchange is negligible at the p-mode frequencies, it has no particular effect on the driving. 相似文献

An analysis of the Lowell Observatory photographic plates of Saturn gave the following results: (1) ring A and B show peculiar brightness distributions around the planet, from which we conclude that both are composed of particles in synchronous rotation. (2) The leading side of the particles in ring A is brighter than the trailing side by about 4%, which may indicate an interaction between such particles and the interplanetary medium. (3) Scans of the rings across the major axis show a small (~0.3″) region of enhanced brightness, from which we derive a value ofT s =10h13 . m 8±5 . m 4 for the actual planetary rotational period of Saturn. (4) In order to explain the synchronous rotation, the particles in ring A have to be at least 42 m in diameter. 相似文献

The design and performance of a portable three channel photometer installed at the Uttar Pradesh State Observatory (UPSO),
Naini Tal is described. The photometer is modular and the whole unit can be disassembled as individual channels such that
the system can also be used as a single channel or two channel photometer. The system also has provision to monitor a guide
star. The instrument was put into operation since November 1999 on the 1m Sampurnanand telescope at UPSO, Naini Tal. Since
then, it is used extensively for the ‘Survey of rapidly oscillating Ap (roAp) stars in the northern sky’ from UPSO. Observational
results using this new photometer in its initial phase of operation are discussed. The advantage of having continuous sky

Totally anisotropic Bianchi type-II cosmological solutions are presented in Barber's second self-creation theory of gravitation
both in vacuum and in the presence of stiff-matter. The corresponding cosmological models have no finite singularity. The
stiff-matter model gives essentially an empty universe for large time. Some physical and kinematical properties of the models
are discussed.

The light curves, obtained by the authors of the present paper during the period 1978–1992, of the chromospherically active binary system RT Lac were examined. The average (B–V) colour indices were obtained and corrected for the interstellar extinction. Spectroscopic studies indicate that the less massive component may be taken as G8. The light curve analysis indicates that the less massive, larger component fills its corresponding Roche lobe. Both photometric and spectroscopic observations compel one to draw a conclusion that circumstellar matter does exist around the binary system. A colour excess caused by this matter is found to be 0.278 for B–V colour at mid–secondary eclipse. On the basis of photometric colour indices alone, the components of RT Lac are classified as G3–4 and G8. If we use the observed radial velocities of the less massive subgiant star from Ca II emission lines and from other optical lines we find for the mass of the more massive component as 1.34–1.70 M. This mass range corresponds to the main sequence late F stars. The common envelope hypothesis and mass function and also blending of the spectral lines of more massive component point out that it should be at most a late F type main sequence star. 相似文献

The current collected by central electrodes inmersed in plasmas with a discriminant grid has been determined through the Poisson equation and truncated Maxwellian distribution functions for the ions.
