High-resolution mosaics of the solar polar magnetic fields have been constructed using individual magnetograms obtained with the video magnetograph of the Big Bear Solar Observatory, and the properties of these mosaics are demonstrated in this paper. The mosaics show selected regions of the polar fields on several days during the rising phase of Cycle 23, and are related to the global polar fields (i) by superposing the mosaic for a given day on to a full-disk SOHO-MDI magnetogram obtained on the same day, (ii) by plotting the mosaics in polar projection and using these to identify the approximate regions reported by the mosaics on the NSOKP polar synoptic plots, and (iii) by imposing the locations of the H filaments on to the mosaics in order to infer the neutral lines of the large-scale fields. We have studied the fine structure of the large-scale unipolar fields near the poles and, in particular, have constructed histograms of the magnetic field intensities within particular regions of the mosaics and, in this way, have estimated the ratios of the number of magnetic knots of opposite polarities within the unipolar plumes. We have also generated enlargements of the polar regions of the NSOKP daily magnetograms. These and statistical studies have shown that on days for which the BBSO mosaics are not available, the NSOKP enlargements may be used to study the high-resolution polar fields. Time-series of mosaics obtained over four-hour periods on September 6 and November 18 show that considerable evolution in the structure of existing flux knots and the formation of several new knots has taken place during these periods. 相似文献

A new application of the autocorrelation grain size analysis technique for mixed to coarse sediment settings has been investigated. Photographs of sand‐ to boulder‐sized sediment along the Elwha River delta beach were taken from approximately 1·2 m above the ground surface, and detailed grain size measurements were made from 32 of these sites for calibration and validation. Digital photographs were found to provide accurate estimates of the long and intermediate axes of the surface sediment (r2 > 0·98), but poor estimates of the short axes (r2 = 0·68), suggesting that these short axes were naturally oriented in the vertical dimension. The autocorrelation method was successfully applied resulting in total irreducible error of 14% over a range of mean grain sizes of 1 to 200 mm. Compared with reported edge and object‐detection results, it is noted that the autocorrelation method presented here has lower error and can be applied to a much broader range of mean grain sizes without altering the physical set‐up of the camera (~200‐fold versus ~6‐fold). The approach is considerably less sensitive to lighting conditions than object‐detection methods, although autocorrelation estimates do improve when measures are taken to shade sediments from direct sunlight. The effects of wet and dry conditions are also evaluated and discussed. The technique provides an estimate of grain size sorting from the easily calculated autocorrelation standard error, which is correlated with the graphical standard deviation at an r2 of 0·69. The technique is transferable to other sites when calibrated with linear corrections based on photo‐based measurements, as shown by excellent grain‐size analysis results (r2 = 0·97, irreducible error = 16%) from samples from the mixed grain size beaches of Kachemak Bay, Alaska. We present I-Xe analyses of ten chondrules from Chainpur LL3.4 by IR laser-stepped heating. Five chondrules provided isochrons of varying quality, giving a range of ages from 0.5 Ma before Shallowater to 17.8 after Shallowater. This confirms the extended range of Chainpur chondrule ages determined by previous data. We discuss evidence for fluid alteration, shock, and thermal events in explaining the chondrule ages and suggest that chondrule remelting events, presumably from bombardment of the parent body surface, are responsible for resetting the I-Xe chronometer. Previous data show a negative correlation between 132Xe/129Xe of the trapped Xe component and 127I/129I of an initial iodine component. This behaviour that requires the presence of a component with trapped 129Xe/132Xe lower than the planetary value has been cited as evidence for closed system evolution of the I-Xe system. We find no evidence of an unambiguous trapped component lower than planetary and no evidence of a negative correlation in our data. Therefore we suggest that open system behaviour more suitably explains the I-Xe systematics of Chainpur chondrules. 相似文献

We report the results of iodine-xenon analyses of irradiated halide grains extracted from the H-chondrite Monahans (1998) and compare them with those from Zag (Whitby et al., 2000) to address the timing of aqueous processing on the H-chondrite parent body. Xe isotopic analyses were carried out using the RELAX mass spectrometer with laser stepped heating. The initial 129I/127I ratio in the Monahans halide was determined to be (9.37 ± 0.06) × 10−5 with an iodine concentration of ∼400 ppb. Significant scatter, especially in the Zag data, indicates that a simple interpretation as a formation age is unreliable. Instead we propose a model whereby halide minerals in both meteorites formed ∼5 Ma after the enstatite achondrite Shallowater (at an absolute age of 4559 Ma). This age is in agreement with the timing of aqueous alteration on the carbonaceous chondrite parent bodies and ordinary chondrite metamorphism and is consistent with the decay of 26Al as a heat source for heating and mobilisation of brines on the H-chondrite parent body. Post accretion surface impact events may have also contributed to the heat source. 相似文献

From 1989 to 2007, a severe decline in Zostera noltii meadows was reported in the Arcachon Bay, with an accelerated regression after 2005. We investigated the inter-annual variability of the biogeochemistry of the sediment in an area affected by seagrass decline. In late summer and in winter of the years 2006, 2010, and 2011, sediment cores were collected at low tide on vegetated and adjacent non-vegetated sediments located in the eastern part of the Arcachon Bay. The geochemical analyses of sediment solid-phase organic carbon, reactive P and Fe, and the pore water concentrations of Fe2+, DIP, and NH4 + are presented. The changes in the chemistry of sediment and pore water between 2006 and 2010 are interpreted as a consequence of the decrease in the Z. noltii biomass between 2006 and 2010. The absence of significant seasonal variations in biomass throughout the growth period (March–September) in 2011 is most likely related to the regression of Z. noltii meadow that strongly affects the study area. In contrast to the healthy meadow in 2006, the declining meadow favored the dissolution of sedimentary particulate phosphorus in winter. In late summer, the low biomass of seagrass resulted in a net release of ammonium in the pore water of the upper 20 cm of sediment. This study clearly shows that seagrass decay may enhance nutrient release in sediments, resulting in a significant supply of phosphorus to the water column of a magnitude comparable to annual inputs to the lagoon from the rivers and the tidal pump. 相似文献

There are two production areas for vanadium-titanium magnetite deposits in China:the Panzhihua area in Sichuan Province and the Chengde area in Hebei Province.
The Panzhihua vanadium titanomagnetite iron ore deposits are hosted by a mafic-ultramafic intrusive complex,and belong to late magmatic differentiation condensation of crystalline iron deposits.The rock mass is characterized by good differentiation,clear and differentiated facies zones and rhythm.The rock assemblage can be divided into the following rock facies combination:gabbro,gabbro-norite,gabbro troctolite,gabbro-plagioclase,gabbro-eclogite-olivine pyroxenite,and diabase types.The orebodies occur mostly as close-bedded,distributed in the dark facies zone in the bottom layers of the middle or lower part of the stratiform rock mass.The main ore minerals are granular ilmenite,magnetite,ilmenite spar,and magnesium aluminum spinel,with small amounts of pyrrhotite,pyrite and cobalt,nickel and copper sulfide.The ores have siderite and mosaic textures and occur as compact massive,banded and disseminated structures;they consist of TFeO 20%-45%,TiO2 3%-16%,V2O50.15%-0.5%,Cr2O30.1%-0.38%,associated with trace amounts of Cu,Co,Ni,Ga,Mn,P,Se,Te,Sc and Pt group elements. 相似文献
