The impact of diffuse pollution, agricultural land use and climate change on the long-term response of subsurface–surface water quality is not well understood, but is a prerequisite for evaluation of water management options. The goal of this study is to model geochemical evolution of water chemistry from the infiltration through soil into the unsaturated zone, transport through bedrocks and granular aquifers to a river in order to identify zones of steep concentration gradients and high dynamics under transient flow conditions. A numerical model was constructed comprising a 2-D 1,500 m × 150 m vertical cross-section of typical sedimentary rock formations, a glacio-fluvial quaternary gravel aquifer in the valley and soil layers. The model coupled saturated/un-saturated flow and reactive transport under steady state and transient conditions. Geochemical interactions, include intra-aqueous kinetic reactions of oxygen with dissolved organic matter, as well as kinetics of carbonate dissolution/precipitation. This model section was chosen to provide insight in to the principal processes and time scales affecting water chemistry along different flow paths. The numerical simulator MIN3P was used, a finite volume program for variably saturated subsurface flow and multi-component reactive transport. The results show that subsurface water residence times range from approximately 2 to 2,000 years. Different zones are to be expected with respect to the development of mineral equilibria; namely, purely atmospherically influenced, as well as open and closed system carbonate dissolution. Short-term responses to daily averaged changes in precipitation, however, are only visible to some extent in the shallower and near-river parts of flow system and solute loads. This can most likely be explained by directional changes in flow paths, indicating that equilibrium geochemical condition predominate at the hillslope scale, i.e. water quality depends on transport pathways rather than on kinetic effects. The extent of reducing conditions is controlled by the presence of organic-rich layers (i.e. peat deposits), the dissolution kinetics of aquifer organic matter and the subsequent mixing with oxygenated water by hydrodynamic dispersion. 相似文献

Flow slides in municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills are common geoenvironmental issues in the urban environment and can pose a serious threat to the surrounding population and infrastructure. Prediction of the maximum run-out distance of flow slides in MSW landfills is therefore an essential part of hazard and risk assessment in engineering design. Based on the framework for simple analysis originally developed by Hungr (1995), we propose a simplified analytical model for calculating dam breaks in a plastic fluid along a single inclined base. In the proposed model, a quarter-elliptical shape is used to describe the approximate configuration of the flow slide. Following this step, the physical laws relating to the conservation of mass and energy are used to calculate the potential flow. Of additional note is a boundary condition in mathematics relating to this simplified analytical model, which is also reported in this study. Taking the obvious mobility characteristics of the MSW at point of failure into consideration, a three-phase simplified model along double inclined bases has been further developed for run-out prediction of the flow slide in MSW landfill. The proposed three-phase model is then applied to estimate the maximum run-out distance of two typical flow failures of landfills located in Sarajevo and Bandung, which demonstrate the capability of the proposed simplified analytical model for use in hazard assessments of landfills. 相似文献

≲ 0.3). A method to calculate the fraction of comets that stay under the control of each planet is also presented, as well
as a way to determine the efficiency in different star cluster environments. The location of the planet(s) in mass-semi-major
axis space to form a comet cloud is constrained based on the conditions developed by Tremaine (1993) together with estimates
of the likelyhood of passing comets between planets; and, in the case of a single, eccentric planet, the additional constraint
that it is, by itself, able to accelerate material to relative encounter velocity U ~ 0.4 within the age of the stellar system without sweeping up the majority of the material beforehand. For a single planet,
it turns out the efficiency is mainly a function of planetary mass and semi-major axis of the planet and density of the stellar
environment. The theory has been applied to some extrasolar systems and compared to numerical simulations for both these systems
and the Solar System, as well as a diffusion scheme based on the energy kick distribution of Everhart (Astron J 73:1039–1052,

Despite the significant role of precipitation in the hydrological cycle, few studies have been conducted to evaluate the impacts of the temporal resolution of rainfall inputs on the performance of SWAT (soil and water assessment tool) models in large-sized river basins. In this study, both daily and hourly rainfall observations at 28 rainfall stations were used as inputs to SWAT for daily streamflow simulation in the Upper Huai River Basin. Study results have demonstrated that the SWAT model with hourly rainfall inputs performed better than the model with daily rainfall inputs in daily streamflow simulation, primarily due to its better capability of simulating peak flows during the flood season. The sub-daily SWAT model estimated that 58 % of streamflow was contributed by baseflow compared to 34 % estimated by the daily model. Using the future daily and 3-h precipitation projections under the RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) 4.5 scenario as inputs, the sub-daily SWAT model predicted a larger amount of monthly maximum daily flow during the wet years than the daily model. The differences between the daily and sub-daily SWAT model simulation results indicated that temporal rainfall resolution could have much impact on the simulation of hydrological process, streamflow, and consequently pollutant transport by SWAT models. There is an imperative need for more studies to examine the effects of temporal rainfall resolution on the simulation of hydrological and water pollutant transport processes by SWAT in river basins of different environmental conditions. 相似文献

In the present study, laboratory experiments were conducted to validate the applicability of a numerical model based on one-dimensional nonlinear long-wave equations. The model includes drag and inertia resistance of trees to tsunami flow and porosity between trees and a simplified forest in a wave channel. It was confirmed that the water surface elevation and flow velocity by the numerical simulations agree well with the experimental results for various forest conditions of width and tree density. Further, the numerical model was applied to prototype conditions of a coastal forest of Pandanus odoratissimus to investigate the effects of forest conditions (width and tree density) and incident tsunami conditions (period and height) on run-up height and potential tsunami force. The modeling results were represented in curve-fit equations with the aim of providing simplified formulae for designing coastal forest against tsunamis. Many organizations of all kinds are using new technologies to assist the acquisition and analysis of data. Seaports are a good example of this trend. Seaports generate data regarding the management of marine traffic and other elements, as well as environmental conditions given by meteorological sensors and buoys. However, this enormous amount of data, also known as Big Data, is useless without a proper system to organize, analyze and visualize it. SmartPort is an online platform for the visualization and management of a seaport data that has been built as a GIS application. This work offers a Rich Internet Application that allows the user to visualize and manage the different sources of information produced in a port environment. The Big Data management is based on the FIWARE platform, as well as “The Internet of Things” solutions for the data acquisition. Ground vibrations generated by commercial explosives in tunnel construction may cause structural damage in urban areas. Therefore,
suppressing the vibration effects and mitigating the possible hazard after blasting is important. We present a new method
of controlled blasting that is environmentally friendly, and easy to utilize for tunnel construction. Small charges in this
method are detonated sequentially to produce minimum side effects. The efficiency of the charges may be increased based on
the previously monitored shots. This method is utilized in a tunnel construction in Istanbul with five experimental shots.
In these experiments, the duration and also the quantity of explosives were carefully controlled. We were able to obtain better
results with short durations (480 ms) instead of long durations (9,000 ms) although the vibration levels defined as peak particle
velocity (PPV) became bigger while the quantity of the explosive charge increased from 3.088 to 9.264 kg. 相似文献

At present a variety of boundary-layer schemes is in use in numerical models and often a large variation of model results
is found. This is clear from model intercomparisons, such as organized within the GEWEX Atmospheric Boundary Layer Study (GABLS).
In this paper we analyze how the specification of the land-surface temperature affects the results of a boundary-layer scheme,
in particular for stable conditions. As such we use a well established column model of the boundary layer and we vary relevant
parameters in the turbulence scheme for stable conditions. By doing so, we can reproduce the outcome for a variety of boundary-layer
models. This is illustrated with the original set-up of the second GABLS intercomparison study using prescribed geostrophic
winds and land-surface temperatures as inspired by (but not identical to) observations of CASES-99 for a period of more than
two diurnal cycles. The model runs are repeated using a surface temperature that is calculated with a simple land-surface
scheme. In the latter case, it is found that the range of model results in stable conditions is reduced for the sensible heat
fluxes, and the profiles of potential temperature and wind speed. However, in the latter case the modelled surface temperatures
are rather different than with the original set-up, which also impacts on near-surface air temperature and wind speed. As
such it appears that the model results in stable conditions are strongly influenced by non-linear feedbacks in which the magnitude
of the geostrophic wind speed and the related land-surface temperature play an important role. 相似文献

We propose a new quantitative determination of shear wave velocities for distinct geological units in the Bohemian Massif,
Czech Republic (Central Europe). The phase velocities of fundamental Love wave modes are measured along two long profiles
(~200 km) crossing three major geological units and one rift-like structure of the studied region. We have developed a modified
version of the classical multiple filtering technique for the frequency-time analysis and we apply it to two-station phase
velocity estimation. Tests of both the analysis and inversion are provided. Seismograms of three Aegean Sea earthquakes are
analyzed. One of the two profiles is further divided into four shorter sub-profiles. The long profiles yield smooth dispersion
curves; while the curves of the sub-profiles have complicated shapes. Dispersion curve undulations are interpreted as period-dependent
apparent velocity anomalies caused both by different backazimuths of surface wave propagation and by surface wave mode coupling.
An appropriate backazimuth of propagation is found for each period, and the dispersion curves are corrected for this true
propagation direction. Both the curves for the long and short profiles are inverted for a 1D shear wave velocity model of
the crust. Subsurface shear wave velocities are found to be around 2.9 km/s for all four studied sub-profiles. Two of the
profiles crossing the older Moldanubian and Teplá-Barrandian units are characterized by higher velocities of 3.8 km/s in the
upper crust while for the Saxothuringian unit we find the velocity slightly lower, around 3.6 km/s at the same depths. We
obtain an indication of a shear wave low velocity zone above Moho in the Moldanubian and Teplá-Barrandian units. The area
of the Eger Rift (Teplá-Barrandian–Saxothuringian unit contact) is significantly different from all other three units. Low
upper crust velocities suggest sedimentary and volcanic filling of the rift as well as fluid activity causing the earthquake
swarms. Higher velocities in the lower crust together with weak or even missing Moho implies the upper mantle updoming. 相似文献
