Artificial neural networks have a wide application in many areas of science and engineering and, particularly, in geotechnical
problems with some degree of success due to the fact that the mechanical behavior of rocks are not salient. They are highly
nonlinear, quite complex and complicated. While applying neural network in such complicated problems, epoch determination
is based on hit-and-trail basis mainly. In this paper, the effect of different number of epochs is shown on the network and
a method is proposed to determine the optimum number of epoch with the help of self-organized map (SOM) to avoid overtraining
of the network. Data distribution is also done with the help of SOM and a statistical analysis is made to show consistency
between training and testing dataset for ensuring the optimal model performance. 相似文献
This study assesses the disparity in the level of material wellbeing between the rural and urban areas of various districts of West Bengal. To measure the level of material wellbeing three broad domains comprising of Housing index (HI), Basic Amenities Index (BAI) and Asset Index (AI) following which a composite index (Material Wellbeing Indexi.e. MWI) was computed for the urban and the rural areas for all the districts between the time frame of 2001–2011. A set of 14 sub-indicators were selected for the analysis. This paper takes into account the differentials between the urban and the rural areas of the state. The data was subjected to correlation analysis, ANOVA and PCA, intra-zonal analysis was also performed. The results show the presence of widespread levels of disparity between the various districts as well as within the districts. Over the course of the years this disparity has increased in case of the northern zone however intra and inter zonal disparity runs high. Among the different sub-indicators, BAI has recorded the highest decrease in the differentials whereas the AI has recorded the highest increase in the differentials. Among the districts eight of them have recorded a net increase in the differentials in MWI among which Maldah has recorded the highest decrease in the differentials whereas Dakshin Dinajpur has recorded the highest increase in the differentials.

In an experiment on methane-emission measurements from rice fields amended with urea, biogas spent slurry (BSS) + urea, and farm yard manure (FYM) + urea, three distinctive peaks in the methane emissions were observed at 15, 46, and 69 days after transplanting (DAT) due to the availability of readily degradable C-sources. In all cases, the highest peak was at 69 DAT. The steepest Eh drop to a minimum of -320 mV was reached within two weeks of submergence. pH ranged between 7.5 and 8.5. The combined fertilization (FYM + urea) plot showed the maximum emission rate of 4.86 mg m–2 h–1 with a total load of 49.44 kg ha–1 and was 2.3 times higher than (BSS + urea)-treated plot (22.08 kg ha–1). Grain yields in urea, (BSS + urea) and (FYM + urea) plots were 3.34, 2.94, and 2.85 t ha–1 respectively, suggesting that biogas slurry is a preferred source over FYM causing lesser environmental pollution without any significant reduction in grain yield. 相似文献
In this study real time data have been used to compare the standard and triangle method by performing the objective analysis
of mean sea level pressure. In the standard method, derivative fields are obtained from the grid point data using finite difference
scheme whereas in the triangle method, a set of non-overlapping triangles are formed from the observations and the scalar
and the spatial derivatives are computed directly at the centroid of each of the non-overlapping triangles. These scalars
and their derivatives are then mapped to uniform grids by using the standard method. It has been found that objectively analysed
scalar field obtained using standard method is superior to the scalar field derived by the triangle method, whereas the derivative
fields produced by triangle method are superior to the derivative fields produced using standard method. A variational objective
analysis scheme has been developed and an experiment has been carried out with depression case of June (11–15) 2004. It is
found that the new scheme (variational) is able to extract the better parts of both triangle and standard methods. The results
of this study will be useful in carrying out diagnostic calculations that involve derivative estimates. 相似文献
Many epidemiological studies involve analysis of clusters of diseases to infer locations of environmental hazards that could be responsible for the disease. This approach is however only suitable for sedentary populations or diseases with small latency periods. For migratory populations and diseases with long latency periods, people may change their residential location between time of exposure and onset of ill health. For such situations, clusters are diffused and diluted by in- and out-migration and may become very difficult to detect. One way to address the problem of diffused clusters is to include in analyses not only current residential locations, but all past locations at which cases might have been exposed to environmental hazardous. In this paper, we assume that a persons residential history provides such information and represent it through a discrete geospatial lifeline data model. Clusters of similar geospatial lifelines represent individuals who have similar residential histories—and therefore represent people who are more likely to have had similar environmental exposure histories. We therefore introduce a lifeline distance (dissimilarity) measure to detect clusters of cases, providing a basis for revealing possible regions in space-time where environmental hazards might have existed in the past. The ability of the measure to distinguish cases from controls is tested using two sets of synthetically generated cases and controls. Results indicate that the measure is able to consistently distinguish between populations of cases and controls with statistically significant results. The lifeline distance measure consistently outperforms another measure which uses only the distance between subjects residences at time of diagnosis. However, the advantages of using the entire residential history are only partly realized, since the ability to distinguish between cases and controls is only moderately better for the lifeline distance function. Future work is needed to investigate modifications to the inter-lifeline distance measure in order to enhance the potential of this approach to detect locations of environmental hazards over the lifespan.This project is supported by grant number 1 R01 ES09816-01 from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, NIH. Photo-interpretation coupled with systematic field checks over an area of about 1500 sq. km has led to the identification of various landform units and their characteristic landuse pattern in part of the submontaneous tract of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam in the Dihang river basin. Four major geomorphic units have been mapped and their respective lithounits are studied in detail. Present landuse and the land’s capability inrespect of each of the major geomorphic units have been noted. Suggestions have been made for better utilisation of land. 相似文献
The isotopic composition of lead from galenas and feldspars of granitic rocks covering a time span of 3600 m.y. is reviewed. Hew data are combined with data from the literature, all ratios being normalized to a fixed value for the isotopic composition of lead in an inter-laboratory reference sample. Comparison of feldspar and galena results show that the isotopic composition of initial lead in granitic rocks may be identical to, or more radiogenic than, that in coeval stratiform (or ‘single stage’) ore deposits. The isotopic evolution of terrestrial lead over the past 3600 m.y. deduced from the stratiform ore data does not fit the closed system source. The data are best fitted to evolution models in which the value of μ (U238/Pb204 normalized to the present day) in the source has increased either over approximately the past 3.6 billion years or since the time of formation of the Earth. A limited number of high precision data for strontium likewise indicate open system isotopic evolution. In this system the Rb/Sr ratio appears to have decreased as a function of time. Physical models that explain the data are presented. Either mantle differentiation or crustal contamination processes could account for the change in μ in the source for the lead. The strontium data and some detailed studies of the isotopic composition of lead in oceanic volcanic rocks support mantle differentiation rather than crustal contamination. The exact nature of the mantle differentiation process cannot be specified, although empirical data favoring the existence of such a process are given. The best estimate of the age of the Earth, calculated with the data from 2750 and 3290 m.y.-old lead ores, is 4660 m.y. 相似文献
