Total organic carbon (TOC) content, total nitrogen (TN) content, stable nitrogen isotope (δ15N) and stable organic carbon isotope (δ13Corg) ratios were continuously analysed on a high resolution sediment profile from Lake Sihailongwan (SHL), covering the time span between 16,500 and 9,500 years BP. Strong variations of the investigated proxy parameters are attributed to great climatic fluctuations during the investigated time period. Variations in organic carbon isotope ratios and the ratio of TOC/TN (C/N ratio) are discussed with respect to changing proportions of different organic matter (OM) sources to bulk sedimentary OM. Phases of high TOC content, high TN content, depleted δ13Corg values and high δ15N values are interpreted as times with increased productivity of lacustrine algae in relation to input of terrigenous organic matter. Two distinct phases of enriched nitrogen isotope ratios from 14,200 to 13,700 and 11,550 to 11,050 years BP point towards a reduced phytoplankton discrimination against 15N due to a diminished dissolved inorganic nitrogen pool. The combination of geochemical (TOC, TN, C/N ratio) and isotopic (δ13Corg, δ15N) proxy parameters points to a division of climate development into four stages. A cold and dry stage before 14,200 years BP, a warm optimum stage with high phytoplankton productivity from 14,200 to 12,450 BP, a colder and drier stage from 12,450 to 11,600 BP and a stage of climatic amelioration with high variability in TOC and TN contents after 11,600 BP. These results are discussed in relation to monsoon variability and Northern Hemisphere climate development of the late glacial.  相似文献

The abundance patterns of nitrogen, and chlorine in retrogressed granulite facies gneisses from southern East Greenland exhibit strong enrichment in the vicinity of small-scale shear zones. Sulfur in the shear zones occurs at the same concentration levels as in the adjacent country rock, but is depleted in the transition zone between shear zone and country rock. Within the shear zone sulfur occurs as sulfate, whereas in the country rock granulites it occurs as sulfide. Recrystallization of rock in the shear zone to scapolite-bearing, hornblende-absent assemblages, along with changes in the major element chemistry, demonstrates that these zones define migration pathways of chemically reactive fluids. Consideration of the computed fluid compositions, and of the mass ratios of chlorine/sulfur and nitrogen/sulfur demonstrate that the fluid equilibrated with continental crust prior to its passage through gneisses in the study area. Previous suggestions have been made that the mantle may act as a source region for nitrogen-rich fluids. However, equilibration of these S-, N- and Cl-rich fluids with crustal material precludes the use of element abundances to identify a mantle signature; the bulk of these fluid constituents must be considered crustal derived.  相似文献

A method is evaluated that enables the dating of binary isotopic paleomixing in hydrothermal alteration assemblages by iterative reconstruction and regression of corresponding two-component mixing lines from conventional Rb-Sr data. The model has been applied to illite-bearing granulometric fractions of hydrothermally altered sedimentary rocks associated with epithermal vein mineralization in the eastern Harz Mountains, Germany. These veins are characterized by a principal quartz-sulfide stage containing quartz, base metal sulfides, and siderite and a subsequent dominant calcite-fluorite-quartz stage. Rb-Sr analyses were performed on untreated granulometric fractions, HCl-treated residues, corresponding HCl leachates, and cogenetic vein minerals obtained from two silicified rock samples related to the quartz-sulfide and the calcite-fluorite-quartz mineralization, respectively.Neither the untreated nor the HCl-leached fractions of these rock samples yield statistically robust and geochronologically meaningful isochrons. When applying the binary mixing model, however, two well-defined paleomixing lines can be reconstructed for the HCl-treated fractions of the rock samples and associated vein minerals at model ages of 226 ± 1 Ma (quartz-sulfide alteration) and 209 ± 2 Ma (calcite-fluorite-quartz alteration). We examine the significance and reliability of these model ages and the corresponding paleomixing lines by means of statistical and geological criteria and discuss the effects of leaching experiments performed on the granulometric fractions using 1 N HCl as well as the nature and origin of the components dissolved in the acid leachates.Our results suggest that the mixing model provides a successful dating concept for isotopic disequilibrium processes during low-temperature hydrothermal events that produce binary mixtures among newly formed alteration phases.  相似文献

Abstract— The Lockne crater in Sweden is a marine‐target crater, formed in a shelf sea, approximately 460 Ma ago. The crater structure consists of an inner crater surrounded by an outer, inclined surface that extends to almost 12 km from the center. Marine craters differ in several respects from craters formed on land. One special feature is the formation of resurge gullies excavated by the erosional force of the resurging sea water after the impact. The formation of these gullies strongly depends on the ratio crater‐rim height to water depth, as well as on the size of the impact structure. Such gullies are known from very few marine‐target craters. At the Lockne impact site, four gullies are identified, each of which cuts radially through the rim of the outer crater. The rapid collapse of that part of the crater cavity, which formed in the seawater, resulted in forceful flooding of the crater. The resurging seawater not only contained fallback‐ejecta; on its way towards the cavity on the sea‐bottom it incorporated fractured lithologies from the sea‐bottom as well. This entrained material disintegrated during transport and constitutes today the dominantly monomict lower part of the resurge sequence. The resurge flood was highly turbulent, highly erosive, and developed to a probable hyperconcentrated flow or a possible water flood. The erosion in the gullies proceeded as headward erosion down to the transition zone between the brecciated and the less disintegrated crystalline basement.  相似文献

湖光岩玛珥湖HUG-B孔岩心记录了62kaBP以来的古气候、古环境变化信息。全岩有机碳同位素组成(δ^13CTOC)分析表明,62kaBP以来δ^3CTOC值变化比较明显,其变化范围为-28.5‰~-15.5%0。结合孢粉和有机地球化学指标进行综合分析,湖光岩玛珥湖δ^13CTOC变化曲线可划分为6个演化阶段:62~58和48~40.5kaBP两个时段的δ^13CTOC值偏负,沉积物中有机质主要来源于热带-亚热带地区的陆生C13森林植被,反映了温暖潮湿的气候环境;58~48和40.5~17.2kaBP期间δ^13CTOC值明显偏正,沉积物中有机质主要源自C4草本植物,反映了湖光岩地区有效降水量减少、干旱程度增加导致湖光岩玛珥湖湖面下降,大量C4草本植物生长在暴露的湖滨岸;17.2~4kaBP时段内δ^13CTOC值尽管存在更加频繁的波动,但总体呈现逐渐偏负的趋势,反映了暖湿和冷干气候多次交替但总体上逐渐变暖、变湿的气候环境;4kaBP以来δ^13CTOC值存在逐渐偏正的趋势,虽然不排除人类活动的影响,但很可能反映了干旱程度的再次增加。综合分析表明,有效降水量(降水量-蒸发量)是控制湖光岩玛珥湖地区C3/C4植物相对生物量变化的主导因素。湖光岩玛珥湖有机碳同位素的研究结果支持区域气候环境而不是大气CO2浓度变化是末期冰期以来热带低纬度地区C3/C4植被相对生物量变化的主要原因。  相似文献

Collimated jets are believed to be an essential ingredient of the star formation process, and we are now able for the first time to test observationally the theories for their formation and propagation. The major advances achieved in recent years are reviewed, regarding the observed morphology, kinematics and excitation properties of jets, from the parsec-scale `giant outflows' down to the `microjets' from T Tauri stars. High angular resolution images and spectra have provided valuable estimates of jet diameter, space velocity, temperature, ionization fraction, electron and total density, both along and across the flow. We can thus calculate key physical quantites, as the shock excitation parameters, or the mass and momentum fluxes in the flow. The results obtained appear to validate the popular magneto-centrifugal models for jet launching, although some important issues are still under debate, as to the cause of knotty structures, observed wind thermal properties, and the dynamical relationship between jets and molecular outflows. Among the most interesting recent findings, we mention the observed indications for jet rotation, with inferred toroidal velocities consistent with the prescribed angular momentum balance between infall and outflow.  相似文献

Abstract— We report a high‐resolution 40Ar‐39Ar study of mineral separates and whole‐rock samples of olivine‐phyric (Dhofar 019, Sayh al Uhaymir [SaU] 005) and basaltic (Shergotty, Zagami) shergottites. Excess argon is present in all samples. The highest (40Ar/36Ar)trapped ratios are found for argon in pyroxene melt inclusions (?1500), maskelynite (?1200), impact glass (?1800) of Shergotty and impact glass of SaU 005 (?1200). A high (40Ar/36Ar)trapped component‐usually uniquely ascribed to Martian atmosphere‐can also originate from the Martian interior, indicating a heterogeneous Martian mantle composition. As additional explanation of variable high (40Ar/36Ar)trapped ratios in shocked shergottites, we suggest argon implantation from a “transient atmosphere” during impact induced degassing. The best 40Ar‐39Ar age estimate for Dhofar 019 is 642 ± 72 Ma (maskelynite). SaU 005 samples are between 700–900 Ma old. Relatively high 40Ar‐39Ar ages of melt inclusions within Dhofar 019 (1086 ± 252 Ma) and SaU 005 olivine (885 ± 66 Ma) could date entrapment of a magmatic liquid during early olivine crystallization, or reflect unrecognized excess 40Ar components. The youngest 40Ar‐39Ar age of Shergotty separates (maskelynite) is ?370 Ma, that of Zagami is ?200 Ma. The 40Ar‐39Ar chronology of Dhofar 019 and SaU 005 indicate >1 Ga ages. Apparent ages uncorrected for trapped (e.g., Martian atmosphere, mantle) argon components approach 4.5 Ga, but are not caused by inherited 40Ar, because excess 40Ar is supported by 36Artrapped. Young ages obtained by 40Ar‐39Ar and other chronometers argue for primary rather than secondary events. The cosmic ray exposure ages calculated from cosmogenic argon are 15.7 ± 0.7 Ma (Dhofar 019), 1.0–1.6 Ma (SaU 005), 2.1–2.5 Ma (Shergotty) and 2.2–3.0 Ma (Zagami).  相似文献

Organic contaminants present as nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) in the subsurface often pose a long-term risk to human health and the environment. Investigating the distribution of NAPLs in porous media remains a major challenge in risk assessment and management of contaminated sites. Conventional soil coring and monitoring wells have been widely used over past decades as the primary means of subsurface investigation to determine NAPL extent. Known limitations of conventional approaches have led us to explore an alternative or a complementary technique to provide high-quality information of NAPL source zone architecture. This work advances an imaging tool for a variety of organic NAPL contaminants in unconsolidated soils through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of frozen cores. Using trichloroethylene (TCE) and o-xylene as model species, we illustrate that discriminatory freezing of water, while keeping the NAPL in a liquid state, enables high-resolution qualitative delineation of NAPL distribution within porous media. This novel approach may help improve site conceptual models and consequentially lead to highly tailored, more efficient remedial measures.  相似文献

Pregnant eelpout were collected for several years at German and Swedish Baltic coastal stations with different impact of pollutants and the prevalence of fry abnormalities compared between sites. Mortality of apparently normal developed larvae was observed with high variability in both German and Swedish sites. Malformation of larvae was a prominent disorder at all German stations with a prevalence ranging from about 50% up to a maximum of 90% in almost all analysed samples. At the Swedish stations malformation rates were significantly lower (range: 0-6%). Growth retardation of fry was clearly more prominent in eelpout from German coastal waters as well. Taken together the field data suggests that impaired larval development was associated with the state of environmental pollution at the sampling locations.  相似文献

Mesothermal vein-type Sb mineralization in the Rheinisches Schiefergebirge, Germany, is characterized by two different mineralization styles, which are (1) extensional quartz-stibnite vein systems, and (2) (Cu)-Pb-Sb sulphosalt assemblages in overprinted pre-existing Pb-Zn veins. A detailed Pb isotope study of 52 representative samples from both mineralization types indicates distinct compositional patterns. (Cu)-Pb-Sb sulphosalts (meneghinite, boulangerite, bournonite) formed by reaction/remobilization are characterized by Pb isotope compositions (206Pb/204Pb=18.179-18.223), which are identical to the precursor galena (206Pb/204Pb=18.168-18.223). The Pb isotope composition of sulphosalt minerals in these vein systems was controlled by lead inherited from pre-existing galena. Stibnite and Pb-sulphosalts (zinkenite, semseyite, plagionite) formed in quartz-stibnite vein systems display Pb isotope ratios (206Pb/204Pb=18.250-18.354), which are more radiogenic than galenas from Variscan Pb-Zn ore veins (206Pb/204Pb=18.162-18.303). Detailed small-scale investigation of thrust zones hosting Pb-Zn ores and crosscutting quartz-ankerite fissure veins (Ramsbeck deposit) indicates that the Pb isotope compositions of recrystallized (galena) and remobilized phases (boulangerite, semseyite, bournonite) are arranged along a linear trend. This is interpreted as mixing between primary galena with 206Pb/204Pb᜞.206 and overprinting hydrothermal fluids with a more radiogenic composition (206Pb/204Pb⁾.354), expressed by intermediate compositions (206Pb/204Pb=18.256-18.334) of newly-formed sulphosalts. The Pb isotope systematics of the vein-type Sb mineralization is in accordance with a model of Pb extraction from similar crustal sources (Palaeozoic sedimentary sequences) at different times.  相似文献
