This paper describes a quantitative methodology for deriving optimal exploration target zones based on a probabilistic mineral
prospectivity map. The methodology is demonstrated in the Rodalquilar mineral district in Spain. A subset of known occurrences
of mineral deposits of the type sought was considered discovered and then used as training data, and a map of distances to
faults/fractures and three band ratio images of hyperspectral data were used as layers of spatial evidence in weights-of-evidence
(WofE) modeling of mineral prospectivity in the study area. A derived posterior probability map of mineral deposit occurrence
showing non-violation of the conditional independence assumption and having the highest prediction rate was then put into
an objective function in simulated annealing in order to derive a set of optimal exploration focal points. Each optimal exploration
focal point represents a pixel or location within a circular neighborhood of pixels with high posterior probability of mineral
deposit occurrence. Buffering of each optimal exploration focal point, based on proximity analysis, resulted in optimal exploration
target zones. Many of these target zones coincided spatially with at least one occurrence of mineral deposit of the type sought
in the subset of cross-validation (i.e., presumed undiscovered) mineral deposits of the type sought. The results of the study
showed the usefulness of the proposed methodology for objective delineation of optimal exploration target zones based on a

Phytoplankton plays a dominant role in shelf biogeochemistry by producing the major part of organic matter. Part of the organic
matter will reach the sediment where diagenetic processes like denitrification, apatite formation or burial will remove nutrients
from the biogeochemical cycle. In this article current knowledge on the decadal plankton variability in the North Sea is summarized
and possible implications of these changes for the biogeochemistry of the North Sea are discussed. Most of the observed interdecadal
dynamics seem to be linked to large-scale oceanographic and atmospheric processes. Prominent changes in the North Sea ecosystem
have taken place around 1979 and 1988. In general, the phytoplankton color (CPRS indicator of phytoplankton biomass) reached
minimum values during the end of the 1970s and has increased especially since the mid 1980s. Changes with a similar timing
have been identified in many time series from the North Sea through the entire ecosystem and are sometimes referred to as
regime shifts. It is suggested that the impact of global change on the local biogeochemistry is largely driven by the phyto-
and zooplankton dynamics during spring and early summer. At that time the extent of zooplankton–phytoplankton interaction
either allows that a large part of the new production is settling to the sediment, or that a significant part of the new production
including the fixed nutrients is kept within the pelagic system. The origin of the extent of the phytoplankton–zooplankton
interaction in spring is probably set in the previous autumn and winter. In coastal areas, both large-scale atmospheric and
oceanographic changes as well as anthropogenic factors influence the long-term dynamics. Due to eutrophication, local primary
production nowadays still is up to five times higher than during pre-industrial conditions, despite a decreasing trend. Recently,
introduced species have strengthened the filter feeder component of coastal ecosystems. Especially in shallow coastal seas
like the Wadden Sea, this will enhance particle retention, shift organic matter degradation to the benthic compartment and
enhance nutrient removal from the biogeochemical cycle by denitrification or apatite formation. 相似文献

Geografisk Tidsskrift, Danish Journal of Geography 108(1):137–142, 2008 During field observations in August 2005 antler remains of a reindeer were found at a recently deglaciated site at about 500 m asl., and bones from a polar bear were found at about 300 m asl. along the margin of Mittivakkat Glacier, Southeast Greenland. Radio carbon dating determined the age of the samples to 720 14C years and 350 14C years, respectively. In August 2006 old surface vegetation covering peaty material became exposed due to ice recession close to the site where the antler was found. The radio carbon age of small roots from the material was determined to 1530 14C years, and is in agreement with dating of woody remains of Salix glauca found close by, at the top of a nearby nunatak in 1999. The antler indicates that reindeer lived in the area when the glacier began to advance from a position where it was close to or smaller than today. The vegetation surface and peaty material indicate that the climate was warmer before the onset of the Little Ice Age in Southeast Greenland than today. 相似文献

Within societies, information availability is a key issue affecting society's well‐being. For geographic information, a geographic information infrastructure (GII) facilitates availability and access to geographic information for all levels of government, the commercial sector, the non‐profit sector, academia, and ordinary citizens. Although the importance of access policies in the development of a GII is commonly understood, research that has assessed the impact of access policies on this development is scant. This article adds this perspective. Based on information acquired from case‐study and literature research, the author argues that open‐access policies do not always promote GII development and in specific instances are counter‐productive. These findings may explain why many nations still adhere to cost‐recovery policies instead of following access policies recommended by research. The article provides alternatives for changing current policies into new access policies that promote GII development. 相似文献

Wavelet thresholding is used to generate simplified terrain models. This non-linear filtering technique is adaptive in the sense that the large wavelet coefficients in areas of high relief are kept, whereas all coefficients smaller than a threshold value, representing smooth areas, are thrown away. The degree of detail in the simplified model is controlled by the number of wavelet coefficients retained. Two different areas are analysed using this method. The experiments show the smoothing effect of the thresholding, and how the main terrain features survive as the threshold value increases. At large threshold values the method introduces blocking artifacts in the model. 相似文献

This article presents a framework for estimating a new topographic attribute derived from digital elevation models (DEMs) called maximum branch length (B max). Branch length is defined as the distance travelled along a flow path initiated at one grid cell to the confluence with the flow path passing through a second cell. B max is the longest branch length measured for a grid cell and its eight neighbours. The index provides a physically meaningful method for assessing the relative significance of drainage divides to the dispersion of materials and energy across a landscape, that is, it is a measure of ‘divide size’. B max is particularly useful for studying divide network structure, for mapping drainage divides, and in landform classification applications. Sensitivity analyses were performed to evaluate the robustness of estimates of B max to the algorithm used to estimate flow lengths and the prevalence of edge effects resulting from inadequate DEM extent. The findings suggest that the index is insensitive to the specific flow algorithm used but that edge effects can result in significant underestimation along major divides. Edge contamination can, however, be avoided by using an appropriately extensive DEM. 相似文献

Wireless sensor network (WSN) applications require efficient, accurate and timely data analysis in order to facilitate (near) real-time critical decision-making and situation awareness. Accurate analysis and decision-making relies on the quality of WSN data as well as on the additional information and context. Raw observations collected from sensor nodes, however, may have low data quality and reliability due to limited WSN resources and harsh deployment environments. This article addresses the quality of WSN data focusing on outlier detection. These are defined as observations that do not conform to the expected behaviour of the data. The developed methodology is based on time-series analysis and geostatistics. Experiments with a real data set from the Swiss Alps showed that the developed methodology accurately detected outliers in WSN data taking advantage of their spatial and temporal correlations. It is concluded that the incorporation of tools for outlier detection in WSNs can be based on current statistical methodology. This provides a usable and important tool in a novel scientific field. 相似文献

The Markermeer is a large and shallow man-made freshwater lake in the Netherlands, characterized by its high turbidity. As part of a study aiming to mitigate this high turbidity, we studied the water–bed exchange processes of the lake’s muddy bed. The upper centimeter’s–decimeter’s of the lake bed sediments mainly consists of soft anoxic mud. Recent measurements have proved the existence of a thin oxic layer on top of this soft anoxic mud. This oxic layer, which is much easier to be eroded than the anoxic mud, is believed to be related with Markermeer’s high-turbidity levels. Our hypothesis is that the thin oxic layer develops from the anoxic mud, enhanced by bioturbation. Actually, we will demonstrate that it is the bioturbated state of the bed that increases its erodability, and not the oxidation state of the sediments. In particular, we will refer to bioturbation caused by meiobenthic fauna. The objective of this study is therefore to determine the influence of the development of the thin oxic layer on the water–bed exchange processes, as well as to establish the role of bioturbation on those processes. This is done by quantifying the erosion rate as a function of bed shear stresses, and at different stages of the development of the oxic layer. Our experiments show that bioturbation increases the rate at which Markermeer sediments are eroded by almost an order of magnitude. The short-term fine sediment dynamics in Markermeer are found to be driven by the complex and highly dynamic interactions between physics, chemistry, and biology. Finally, the long-term fine sediment dynamics are driven by the erosion of the historical deposits in the lake’s bed, which is only possible after bioturbation, and which leads to an increase of the stock of sediments in the lake’s muddy bed. 相似文献
