Piešt'any–thermal H2S water and mud

 Slovakia has very rich sources of mineral and thermal waters. One of the warmest is located in Piešt'any. Its discharge rate is 40 l/s; it is Ca-Mg-SO₄-HCO₃-Cl type with T.D.S. 1.4 g/l, H₂S 10 mg/l and temperature 68  °C. The waters seep on the spa island, which lies between the river Váh and its branch. The characteristics of the water and mud predestine the existence of this great spa in Slovakia. Its reputation is based on the treatment of rheumatic and neurological disesases. Implementation of a general constitutive model for geological materials

A generalized constitutive model is described with particular attention to determination of material constants, and its implementation. The model involves use of only a single function to characterize the complete range of plastic yielding, and employs a special function to describe plastic hardening. Laboratory behaviour of an artificial soil is used to iliustrate the determination of the constants and verification of the model.     

Glacial stratigraphy of East and Central Jutland

Glaciostratigraphic investigations at one key locality (Haldum), 9 major and about 160 minor localities in East and Central Jutland, Denmark, together with laboratory work, have led to the establishment of a stratigraphy consisting of 10 till units, usually separated by meltwater deposits. The stratigraphy is in some degree supported by thermoluminescence datings. The complete sequence includes one till unit with associated meltwater deposits of Menapian age, three till units with intercalated meltwater deposits of Elsterian age, marine sediments deposited during the Holsteininan, and three till units with intercalated of Elsterian age, marine sediments deposited during the Holsteinian, and three till units with intercalated glaciofluvial sedimants of Saalian age. Eemian deposits are present above this level, and the whole sequence is capped by till and meltwater deposits related to three glacial advances during the Weichselian.     

The role of proton injection processes in the nonlinear evolution of “pearls”

Given a constant number of resonant protons in a field tube the unstable wave amplitude reaches a steady value rapidly due to nonlinear effects. Observations show that the pearl amplitudes grow gradually for a long time. Consistency with observations is obtained by taking into account the processes of proton injection.     

Possible origin of radar bright craters on Venus

Radar images of Venus' surface, obtained from the Venera 15 and 16 spacecraft and from the Earth, show many impact craters that are radar bright compared with their surroundings. It is demonstrated in this report that this phenomenon cannot be caused by higher surface roughness of meteorite impact area only. Obviously, enhanced reflectivity is required as well. It is supposed that the necessary enlargement of reflectivity might be caused by raised conductivity of surface material in the impact area, if the meteorite is related by chemical composition to iron or iron-stony types.'Geology and Tectonics of Venus', special issue edited by Alexander T.
