Particle breakage is a common occurrence in granular systems when the external stress exceeds the individual particle strength.A large number of experimental evidences suggested that particle breakage may significantly influence the soil behavior.In the case of pile foundations,the subsoil below the pile tip experiences considerable high stress and consequently prone to break.Due to the lack of sufficient understanding on particle breakage mechanism,there is currently no consentaneous theoretical background for particle breakage analysis during the pile penetration process.This study aims to clarify the location of particle breakage and its evolving characteristics with the aid of acoustic emission(AE)source location method.The spatial distribution of AE hypocenters is interpreted to be associated with the mechanism of particle breakage.Results showed that the AE sources were not uniformly distributed,but concentrated within certain zones below the pile tip.This AE concentration zone was pushed downward with the advancing pile tip,and its distance from the real time pile tip position decreased after certain depth of pile penetration.The location of particle breakage interpreted from AE source location was verified with posttest excavations and the insights on the particle breakage evolution zone were further discussed.  相似文献

The dehydration kinetics of serpentine was investigated using in situ high-temperature infrared microspectroscopy. The analyzed antigorite samples at room temperature show relatively sharp bands at around 3,655–3,660 cm?1 (band 1), 3,570–3,595 cm?1 (band 2), and 3,450–3,510 cm?1 (band 3). Band 1 corresponds to the Mg–OH bond, and bands 2 and 3 correspond to OH associated with the substitution of Al for Si. Isothermal kinetic heating experiments at temperatures ranging from 625 to 700 °C showed a systematic decrease of the OH band absorbance with heating duration. The one-dimensional diffusion was found to provide the best fit to the experimental data, and diffusion coefficients were determined with activation energies of 219 ± 37 kJ mol?1 for the total water band area, 245 ± 46 kJ mol?1 for band 1, 243 ± 57 kJ mol?1 for band 2, and 256 ± 53 kJ mol?1 for band 3. The results indicate that the dehydration process is controlled by one-dimensional diffusion through the tetrahedral geometry of serpentine. Fluid production rates during antigorite dehydration were calculated from kinetic data and range from 3 × 10?4 to 3 × 10?5  $ {\text{m}}_{\text{fluid}}^{ 3} \,{\text{m}}_{\text{rock}}^{ - 3} \,{\text{s}}^{ - 1} $ . The rates are high enough to provoke hydraulic rupture, since the relaxation rates of rocks are much lower than these values. The results suggest that the rapid dehydration of antigorite can trigger an intermediate-depth earthquake associated with a subducting slab.  相似文献

Some clinopyroxenes from ultramafic inclusions in Dreiser Weiher,Eifel   总被引:6,自引:1,他引:6  
Eight clinopyroxenes from wehrlites and clinopyroxenites and three clinopyroxenes of crystal lapilli in tuff of Dreiser Weiher in Eifel, Germany, have been separated and chemically analysed. One hornblende and two phlogopites from a wehrlite and clinopyroxenites have also been analysed. The rocks enclosing these inclusions are alkali basalts of basanite composition. The analysed clinopyroxenes contain considerable amounts of Al2O3 (3.87–10.84 wt%). The calculated Tschermak's component ranges from 5.9 to 18.4 mol per cent. All of the analysed clinopyroxenes are clearly different from chromian diopsides in lherzolite inclusions in basaltic rocks in Dreiser Weiher and other localities; the former has higher contents of total FeO, CaO and TiO2 and lower contents of MgO and Cr2O3 than the latter. Two clinopyroxenes separated from apatite-bearing clinopyroxenites show high contents of Fe2O3 with about 2 per cent of Na2O, indicating the presence of considerable amounts of acmite component in addition to Tschermak's component. The relative proportions of Al in the tetrahedral site and that in the octahedral site in the analysed clinopyroxenes are clearly different from those of the common igneous clinopyroxenes and eclogites, and similar to those of the clinopyroxenes from other inclusions in basaltic rocks and granulites. It is suggested that all the analysed clinopyroxenes and their host inclusions have crystallized from alkali basalt magmas in relatively deep levels of the continental crust.  相似文献

The unequilibrated eucrite Yamato 82202 (Y82202) contains a network of relatively thick (up to 1 mm in width) glass veins. The host of the meteorite represents a monomict breccia composed of volcanic rock that crystallized > 4.3 Ga ago as a lava flow on the surface of 4 Vesta. The veins formed 3.90 ± 0.04 Ga ago, probably as a result of frictional melting associated with impact, under conditions of low effective oxygen fugacity and higher sulfur fugacity. The glass contains disordered structural elements characteristic of pyroxene and feldspar, reminiscent of the eucritic target lithology. The unequilibrated pyroxenes of the volcanic host and the pristine character of the glass indicate that this meteoritic material did not experience significant thermal metamorphism after initial crystallization of the lava. Hence, it was not affected by regional metamorphism caused by burial to a significant depth or by long-term contact metamorphism associated with a thick lava flow, large intrusion, or hot layer of impact ejecta. The meteorite resided at a shallow depth (though not at the surface) on 4 Vesta or on one of the vestoids until it was ejected and traveled to Earth, probably with other HED materials that have 36Ar exposure ages of ∼13 Ma. These data suggest that the surface of the asteroid 4 Vesta has significant, though probably small, proportions of glass, as well as unequilibrated volcanic rock.  相似文献

Using orientation data from experimentally deformed olivine, we explore some practical problems with the J-index, a commonly applied measure of fabric strength. We show that the J-index is highly dependent on several factors, including the number of discrete data in the orientation distribution function (ODF), and arbitrary numerical parameters specified for its calculation. Because of this non-uniqueness, we conclude that the J-index is difficult to interpret and should only be applied with caution. As an alternative to the J-index, we propose a new measure of fabric strength that is based on the distribution of uncorrelated misorientation angles. This “M-index” is shown to be insensitive to the parameters specified for its calculation. For typical deformed olivine samples, we show that 150 discrete data are adequate to quantify fabric strength using the M-index technique. The M-index correlates well with seismic anisotropy, particularly for materials of the same fabric type. Therefore, we conclude that the M-index technique is well-suited for the quantification of fabric strength and the comparison of like materials.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of a systematic analysis aimed at establishing whether acidic pore fluids can affect the properties of natural soils, in particular their compressibility. Marine deposits with different mineral compositions and undisturbed soil structure were collected for this research from three coastal areas in Japan. Pleistocene clays from the Osaka and Ariake Bays were obtained from boreholes at a depth of more than 10 m, whereas the Kawasaki mud, a relatively young deposit of Holocene, was dredged from the bed of the Tokyo Bay. Soil specimens were placed in special containers, which were designed to reproduce the process of long-term soil–water–chemical interaction, and leached with solutions of sulfuric acid for different periods of time, ranging from 1 to 9 months. At the end of each time interval, standard compression tests were performed to study the behavior of soil in an acidic environment. It was found that clay mineralogy and soil structure had a significant effect on the compressibility of clays at low pH. In the case of the Osaka and Ariake clays, the compressibility significantly increased with a decrease in pH values, a finding that was primarily attributed to changes in the soil’s structure. In contrast, the effect of acidic leaching on the properties of Kawasaki mud was observed to be the opposite. Laboratory data showed that in acidic medium the compressibility of soil decreased presumably due to the collapse of the diffuse double layer.  相似文献

In order to understand the origin of iron-rich olivine in the matrices of type 3 ordinary chondrites, the reaction of metallic iron and enstatite, with and without forsterite and SiO2, has been experimentally reproduced at temperatures between 1150° and 800°C and PO2 between 10−11 and 10−16 atm (between the IQF and MW buffers). The olivine produced ranges from Fo58 to Fo34 and this composition does not change significantly with temperature and time of the runs. The magnesian olivine which forms does become more magnesian with increasing forsterite/enstatite ratio of the starting materials. Iron-rich olivine (Fo< 35) cannot be formed by the reaction of enstatite and metallic iron, with or without forsterite as starting materials but it can be formed in the presence of free silica. The composition of olivine becomes more iron-rich with increasing silica/enstatite ratio. The compositional range of olivine formed from each mixture is 25–30 mole% Fo regardless of the temperature, composition, mineral assemblage, and run duration.From these experimental results, two possibilities suggested for the origin of the iron-rich olivine in the matrices of type 3 ordinary chondrites: (1) free silica must have been present if the iron-rich olivine was formed by solid-state reactions under oxidizing condition in the solar nebula; (2) reaction of silicon-rich gas with metallic iron took place under oxidizing condition in the solar nebula. Though it is difficult to define which alternative was dominant, the formation of free silica or silicon-rich gas may be a result of fractional condensation. This is possible if there is a reaction relation between forsterite and gas to produce enstatite. The suggested fractional condensation is supported by the fact that the compositions of the fine-grained matrices of type 3 ordinary chondrites are more silica-rich than the bulk compositions of the chondrites. Though it is not known whether such conditions were established all over the nebula or locally in the nebula, both fractionation and more oxidizing conditions than the average solar nebula are required for the formation of matrix olivine.  相似文献
