Midstream of the Keelung River Basin in Northern Taiwan has become highly urbanized and densely populated area. Flood inundation
along riversides frequently occurred during typhoons or rainstorms. Three protection measures, including constructions of
high-level protection levees, a diversion channel, and a detention reservoir, were proposed for flood mitigation. The main
purpose of this study is to evaluate the flood mitigation performance of the three proposed structural measures by using combined
hydrologic analyses and hydraulic routings. A semi-distributed parallel-type linear reservoirs rainfall-runoff model was used
for estimating the surface runoff. Furthermore, a 1-D dynamic channel routing model was coupled with a two-dimensional inundation
model to simulate the hydraulic characteristics of river flooding and overland flow. Simulation results of flood stages, runoff
peak discharges, and inundation extent under design rainfall scenarios were chosen as the criteria for evaluation. The results
showed a diversion channel is superior to the other two measures for flood mitigation of the study area. After the process
of environmental impact assessment, a revised diversion channel approach has been approved for construction as the major structural

A study has been carried out on water soluble ions, trace elements, as well as PM2.5 and PM2.5–10 elemental and organic carbon samples collected daily from Central Taiwan over a one year period in 2005. A source apportionment
study was performed, employing a Gaussian trajectory transfer coefficient model (GTx) to the results from 141 sets of PM2.5 and PM2.5–10 samples. Two different types of PM10 episodes, local pollution (LOP) and Asian dust storm (ADS) were observed in this study. The results revealed that relative
high concentrations of secondary aerosols (NO3−, SO42− and NH4+) and the elements Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb and As were observed in PM2.5 during LOP periods. However, sea salt species (Na+ and Cl−) and crustal elements (e.g., Al, Fe, Mg, K, Ca and Ti) of PM2.5–10 showed a sharp increase during ADS periods. Anthropogenic source metals, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb and As, as well as coarse nitrate
also increased with ADS episodes. Moreover, reconstruction of aerosol compositions revealed that soil of PM2.5–10 elevated approximately 12–14% in ADS periods than LOP and Clear periods. A significantly high ratio of non-sea salt sulfate
to elemental carbon (NSS-SO42−/EC) of PM2.5–10 during ADS periods was associated with higher concentrations of non-sea-salt sulfates from the industrial regions of China.
Source apportionment analysis showed that 39% of PM10, 25% of PM2.5, 50% of PM2.5–10, 42% of sulfate and 30% of nitrate were attributable to the long range transport during ADS periods, respectively. 相似文献

A rectangular flume with dimensions of length 180 cm, height 60 cm and width 20 cm was used to observe the entry angle (i.e. angle between the interface and the centerline of the slot) of a two-layer flow withdrawal by a line sink. Saline water was used to form a bottom density current and red dye was applied. Based on the experimental data, one could see that the dimensionless discharge is more influential on the entry angle than the depth-averaged concentration of the lower-layer flow. Thus, the influence of concentration on experimental conditions is negligible for evaluation of the entry angle. The absolute values of entry angles increase with the absolute values of the dimensionless discharge. Almost all absolute values of the theoretical angle are bigger than that of the measured angle with a deviation bounded within 0.15 rad. The influence on the entry angle from the dimensionless discharge is symmetrical between the drawdown curve (interface above the slot) and the suck-up curve (interface below the slot). This paper develops an iterative procedure for capacity expansion studies for water distribution systems. We propose a methodology to analyze an existing water distribution system and identify the potential bottlenecks in the system. Based on the results, capacity expansion alternatives are proposed and evaluated for improving the efficiency of water supply. The methodology includes a network flow based optimization model, four evaluation indices, and a series of evaluation steps. We first use a directed graph to configure the water distribution system into a network. The network flow based model optimizes the water distribution in the system so that different expansion alternatives can be evaluated on a comparable basis. This model lends itself to linear programming (LP) and can be easily solved by a standard LP code. The results from the evaluation tool help to identify the bottlenecks in the water distribution system and provide capacity expansion alternatives. A useful complementary tool for decision making is composed of a series of evaluation steps with the bottleneck findings, capacity expansion alternatives, and the evaluation of results. We apply the proposed methodology to the Tou-Qian River Basin, located in the northern region of Taiwan, to demonstrate its applicability in optimization and capacity expansion studies. 相似文献

The major advantage of using either the analytic‐signal or the Euler‐deconvolution technique is that we can determine magnetic‐source locations and depths independently of the ambient earth magnetic parameters. In this study, we propose adopting a joint analysis of the analytic signal and Euler deconvolution to estimate the parameters of 2D magnetic sources. The results can avoid solution bias from an inappropriate magnetic datum level and can determine the horizontal locations, depths, structural types (indices), magnetization contrasts and/or structural dips. We have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed method on 2D synthetic models, such as magnetic contacts (faults), thin dikes and cylinders. However, the method fails to solve the parameters of magnetic sources if there is severe interference between the anomalies of two adjacent magnetic sources. 相似文献

We study scattering of antiplane shear waves induced by a deep semielliptic canyon with a horizontal edge. We employ the region-point-matching technique to cope with the problem considered. Through an auxiliary boundary, a part of the circumference of a semiellipse, the whole analyzed region is divided into two subregions. We express the displacement fields in terms of Mathieu functions. We unify two distinct elliptic coordinates via a simple coordinate transformation relation. Integration of the coordinate transformation relation into the region-point-matching technique simplifies the procedure for constructing simultaneous equations. Imposing the continuity conditions and traction-free ones, we obtain the expansion coefficients. Frequency-domain results demonstrate ground motion variability based on several key factors. Ground surface responses under seismic shaking are also simulated in the time domain. 相似文献

The conventional Euler deconvolution method has the advantage of being independent of magnetization parameters in locating magnetic sources and estimating their corresponding depths. However, this method has the disadvantage that a suitable structural index must be chosen, which may cause spatial diffusion of the Euler solutions and bias in the estimation of depths to the magnetic sources. This problem becomes more serious when interfering anomalies exist. The interpretation of the Euler depth solutions is effectively related to the model adopted, and different models may have different structural indices. Therefore, I suggest a combined inversion for the structural index and the source location from the Euler deconvolution, by using only the derivatives of the magnetic anomalies. This approach considerably reduces the diffusion problem of the location and depth solutions. Consequently, by averaging the clustered solutions satisfying a given criterion for the solutions, we can image the depths and attributes (or types) of the causative magnetic sources. Magnetic anomalies acquired offshore northern Taiwan are used to test the applicability of the proposed method. 相似文献

— Monthly dispersion characteristics for air quality modeling over the South China Sea offshore the west coast of Borneo are studied using long-term ship measurements. It is found from monthly averages that the stability condition is nearly neutral throughout the year with the exception of April, May, and November which are slightly unstable. The lifting condensation level ranged from 338 to 450 m. The lowest value of the ventilation factor occurred in April and the highest in January. The friction velocity for each month is also provided to determine the vertical eddy diffusivity and horizontal and vertical dispersion coefficients. 相似文献
