We present new observations of O vi 1032 Å line profiles in polar plumes, and inter-plume regions, on the disk and above the limb in the north coronal hole obtained with the SUMER (Solar Ultraviolet Measurements of Emitted Radiation) instrument on the SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) spacecraft. On 22 May 1996, a 5 x 5 arc min spectroheliogram was scanned above the north polar coronal hole with the entrance slit extending from 1.03 to 1.33 solar radii with 1.5 arc sec spatial resolution and ≈ 0.044 Å per pixel spectral resolution in the wavelength range 1020–1040 Å. Detailed plume structure in O vi 1032 Å can be seen extending beyond 1.3 solar radii, with intensities in the plume regions 10–50% brighter, but line widths 10–15% narrower, than the inter-plume regions. Possible explanations for this observed anti-correlation between line width and intensity in the plume and inter-plume regions are discussed. We conclude that the source of the high-speed solar wind may not be polar plumes, but the inter-plume lanes associated with open magnetic field regions of the chromospheric network.  相似文献

A lot of effort has been invested in Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) during the last decade regarding interoperable standards for services and data. But still the scalability and performance of SDI services is reported to be crucial especially if they are accessed concurrently by a high number of users. Furthermore, laws and provisions such as the INSPIRE directive specify challenging requirements regarding the performance, availability and scalability of SDI services. This article presents a Hybrid Cloud architecture for matching INSPIRE‐related Quality of Service (QoS) requirements, without investing in rarely used hardware in advance, by occupying external third‐party resources on a pay‐as‐you‐go basis. The presented Hybrid Cloud is a composition of a local IT‐infrastructure (Private Cloud) and the computational resources of third‐party vendors (Public Cloud). The local infrastructure is laid out to handle the average main load of a service and in lasting peak times additional resources of external providers are allocated and integrated on demand into the local infrastructure to provide sufficient service quality automatically. A proof‐of‐concept implementation of the proposed Hybrid Cloud approach is evaluated and benchmarked with respect to INSPIRE‐related QoS requirements.  相似文献

Abstract

Detrital amphiboles from the Famennian, Saxothuringian greywackes of the “Erbendorf Paleozoic” in Bavaria were analysed with an electron microprobe. The results were compared with recalculated literature data of amphiboles from potential source rocks to obtain more detailed information about the provenance of the oldest preserved synorogenic sediments in the Saxothuringian belt.

All of the detrital amphiboles show very similar, homogeneous chemical compositions. All of them are Ca-amphiboles (with (Ca+Na)B ≥: 1.34; NafB < 0.67; (Na+K)A < 0.50 and Ti < 0.50), mostly inagnesio-hornblende and tschermakitic hornblende. The comparison with amphiboles from rocks of potential provenance areas reveals that the Randamphibolit-Series of the Miinchberg Massif – or an equivalent, already eroded unit – can be regarded as source rock of the detrital amphiboles.

The presented data are the first evidence, that the Randamphibolit of the Miinchberg Massif was exhumed as early as in the Famennian, shortly after its metamorphism. It can be concluded that before Famennian time the complete Saxothuringian oceanic crust and large parts of the Saxothuringian continental crust had been subducted at the active margin. This implies that the collision of the Saxothuringian plate with the Tepla-Barrandian microplate, leading to the accretion of the Saxothuringian plate, happened 15–20 Ma earlier than previous authors had supposed. Accordingly, the collisional stage must have been reached not later than in the middle Devonian (approx. 380 Ma).  相似文献

Model calibration and history matching are important techniques to adapt simulation tools to real-world systems. When prediction uncertainty needs to be quantified, one has to use the respective statistical counterparts, e.g., Bayesian updating of model parameters and data assimilation. For complex and large-scale systems, however, even single forward deterministic simulations may require parallel high-performance computing. This often makes accurate brute-force and nonlinear statistical approaches infeasible. We propose an advanced framework for parameter inference or history matching based on the arbitrary polynomial chaos expansion (aPC) and strict Bayesian principles. Our framework consists of two main steps. In step 1, the original model is projected onto a mathematically optimal response surface via the aPC technique. The resulting response surface can be viewed as a reduced (surrogate) model. It captures the model’s dependence on all parameters relevant for history matching at high-order accuracy. Step 2 consists of matching the reduced model from step 1 to observation data via bootstrap filtering. Bootstrap filtering is a fully nonlinear and Bayesian statistical approach to the inverse problem in history matching. It allows to quantify post-calibration parameter and prediction uncertainty and is more accurate than ensemble Kalman filtering or linearized methods. Through this combination, we obtain a statistical method for history matching that is accurate, yet has a computational speed that is more than sufficient to be developed towards real-time application. We motivate and demonstrate our method on the problem of CO2 storage in geological formations, using a low-parametric homogeneous 3D benchmark problem. In a synthetic case study, we update the parameters of a CO2/brine multiphase model on monitored pressure data during CO2 injection.  相似文献

The water demand in arid regions is commonly covered by groundwater resources that date back to more humid periods of the Pleistocene and Holocene. Within the investigated arid part of SE Saudi-Arabia information about climate, groundwater levels, and pumping rates are only available for regions where groundwater extractions occur at present-day. For the prediction of the impact of long-term climate changes on groundwater resources an understanding of the hydrogeological and hydrological past and the development of the aquifers is necessary. Therefore, all available information about hydrology and hydrogeology for the past 10,000 years BP were collected and compiled to a conceptual model of the aquifer development on the Arabian Peninsula since the last Ice-Age. The climatic history was displayed by changes in precipitation, temperature and recharge during the mid-S and late Holocene. The hydrogeological development is described by groundwater ages, sea level fluctuations, movement of the coastline, and the development of sabkhas. The most sensitive parameter to describe the development of aquifer system is recharge. Present-day recharge was calculated with the hydrological model system HEC-HMS accounting for current precipitation, temperature, wind, soil types, and geomorphology. With respect to changes in precipitation and temperature over the past 10,000 years the temporal and spatial variability of groundwater recharge was calculated using empirical equations valid for semi-arid and arid settings. Further inflow into the groundwater system results from surface water infiltration in wadi beds, while natural outflow from the groundwater system occurs by discharge to the Gulf, evaporation from sabkhas, and spring discharge. Backward predictions can be verified by sedimentological observations of palaeo-river systems and lakes indicating that groundwater levels reached temporarily the surface under wetter climate conditions and 14C groundwater ages displaying groundwater residence times.  相似文献

Osumilite-(Mg), the Mg-dominant analogue of osumilite, has been approved by the CNMNC IMA as a new mineral species. The holotype sample has been found at Bellerberg, Eifel volcanic area, Germany. Fluorophlogopite, sanidine, cordierite, mullite, sillimanite, topaz, pseudobrookite and hematite are associated minerals. Osumilite-(Mg) occurs as short prismatic or thick tabular hexagonal crystals reaching 0.5 × 1 mm in size in the cavities in basaltic volcanic glasses at their contact with thermally metamorphosed xenoliths of pelitic rocks. The mineral is brittle, with Mohs’ hardness 6.5. Cleavage was not observed. Color is blue to brown. D meas = 2.59(1), D calc = 2.595 g/cm3. No bands corresponding to H2O and OH-groups are in the IR spectrum. Osumilite-(Mg) is uniaxial (+), ω = 1.539(2), ? = 1.547(2). The chemical composition (electron microprobe, average of 5 point analyses, wt %) is: 0.08 Na2O, 3.41 K2O, 0.04 CaO, 7.98 MgO, 0.28 MnO, 21.57 Al2O3, 3.59 Fe2O3, 62.33 SiO2, total 99.28. The empirical formula is: (K0.72Na0.03Ca0.01)(Mg1.97Mn0.04)[Al4.21Fe 0.45 3+ Si10.32]O30. The simplified formula is: KMg2Al3(Al2Si10)O10. The crystal structure was refined on a single crystal, R = 0.0294. Osumilite-(Mg) is hexagonal, space group P6/mcc; a = 10.0959(1), c = 14.3282(2)Å, V = 1264.79(6) Å3, Z = 2. The strongest reflections in the X-ray powder diffraction pattern [d, Å I %) (hkl)] are: 7.21 (37) (002), 5.064 (85) (110), 4.137 (45) (112), 3.736 (43) (202), 3.234 (100) (211), 2.932 (42) (114), 2.767 (51) (204). A type specimen is deposited in the Fersman Mineralogical Museum, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, registration number 4174/1.  相似文献

A new mineral, hillesheimite, has been found in the Graulai basaltic quarry, near the town of Hillesheim, the Eifel Mountains, Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz), Germany. It occurs in the late assemblage comprising nepheline, augite, fluorapatite, magnetite, perovskite, priderite, götzenite, lamprophyllite-group minerals, and åkermanite. Colorless flattened crystals of hillesheimite reaching 0.2 × 1 × 1.5 mm in size and aggregates of the crystals occur in miarolitic cavities in alkali basalt. The mineral is brittle, with Mohs’ hard-ness 4. Cleavage is perfect parallel to (010) and distinct on (100) and (001). D calc = 2.174 g/cm3, D meas = 2.16(1) g/cm3. IR spectrum is given. Hillesheimite is biaxial (?), α = 1.496(2), β = 1.498(2), γ = 1.499(2), 2V meas = 80°. The chemical composition (electron microprobe, mean of 4 point analyses, H2O determined from structural data, wt %) is as follows: 0.24 Na2O, 4.15 K2O, 2.14 MgO, 2.90 CaO, 2.20 BaO, 2.41 FeO, 15.54 Al2O3, 52.94 SiO2, 19.14 H2O, total is 101.65. The empirical formula is: K0.96Na0.08Ba0.16Ca0.56Mg0.58Fe 0.37 2+ [Si9.62Al3.32O23(OH)6][(OH)0.82(H2O)0.18] · 8H2O. The crystal structure has been determined from X-ray single-crystal diffraction data, R = 0.1735. Hillesheimite is orthorhombic, space group Pmmn, the unit-cell dimensions are: a = 6.979(11), b = 37.1815(18), c = 6.5296(15) Å; V=1694(3) Å3, Z = 2. The crystal structure is based on the block [(Si,Al)13O25(OH)4] consisting of three single tetrahedral layers linked via common vertices and is topologically identical to the triple layers in günterblassite and umbrianite. The strong reflections [d Å (I %)] in the X-ray powder diffraction pattern are: 6.857(58), 6.545(100), 6.284(53), 4.787(96), 4.499(59), 3.065(86), 2.958(62), 2.767(62). The mineral was named after its type locality. Type specimens are deposited in the Fersman Mineralogical Museum, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, registration number 4174/1.  相似文献

Kinematic positions of Low Earth Orbiters based on GPS tracking are frequently used as pseudo-observations for single satellite gravity field determination. Unfortunately, the accuracy of the satellite trajectory is partly limited because the receiver synchronization error has to be estimated along with the kinematic coordinates at every observation epoch. We review the requirements for GPS receiver clock modeling in Precise Point Positioning (PPP) and analyze its impact on kinematic orbit determination for the two satellites of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission using both simulated and real data. We demonstrate that a piecewise linear parameterization can be used to model the ultra-stable oscillators that drive the GPS receivers on board of the GRACE satellites. Using such a continuous clock model allows position estimation even if the number of usable GPS satellites drops to three and improves the robustness of the solution with respect to outliers. Furthermore, simulations indicate a potential accuracy improvement of the satellite trajectory of at least 40 % in the radial direction and up to 7 % in the along-track and cross-track directions when a 60-s piecewise linear clock model is estimated instead of epoch-wise independent receiver clock offsets. For PPP with real GRACE data, the accuracy evaluation is hampered by the lack of a reference orbit of significantly higher accuracy. However, comparisons with a smooth reduced-dynamic orbit indicate a significant reduction of the high-frequency noise in the radial component of the kinematic orbit.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study presents an adaptation of the double-ring infiltrometer (DRI) device, which allows several infiltration experiments to be conducted at the same location. Hence, it becomes possible to use the DRI method to investigate infiltration behaviour under different initial soil moisture conditions. The main feature is the splitting of the inner ring into two parts. While the lower part remains in the soil throughout the investigation period, the upper part is attached to the lower one just before the infiltration experiment. This method was applied to eight test sites in an Alpine catchment, covering different land-use/cover types. The results demonstrated the applicability of the adapted system and showed correlations between total water infiltration and initial soil moisture conditions on pastures, independent of the underlying soil type. In contrast, no correlation was found at forest sites or wetlands. Thus, the study emphasizes the importance of paying special attention to the impact of initial soil moisture conditions on the infiltration—and consequently the runoff behaviour—at managed areas. Given the differences in the total infiltrated water of between 30 and 1306 mm, consideration of the interplay between initial soil moisture conditions, land-use/cover type, and soil properties in rainfall–runoff models is a prerequisite to predict runoff production accurately.
