Diffusion coefficients of Co2+ and Ni2+ in synthetic single crystal forsterite along the c-axis were determined in the temperature ranges, 700–1200?°C and 800–1300?°C, respectively. The synthesized forsterite specimens were coated with thin evaporated films of CoO and NiO on the c-surface and annealed for diffusion experiments. The short penetration distance of diffusing ions in forsterite was measured by secondary ion mass spectrometry using the depth profile method. The diffusion coefficients of Co (700–1200?°C) and Ni (800–1300?°C) are given by: and The observed diffusion coefficient values show good linear relationships in Arrhenius plots and the activation energy values obtained agree well with the previous values, although the diffusion coefficient values observed at the high temperature end of the experimental range deviate from the previous values. These results indicate that Co and Ni diffuse in olivine with a single mechanism within the temperature range observed, possibly with an extrinsic in nature as in the case of Mg tracer diffusion observed by Chakraborty et?al. 1994 and of Fe-Mg interdiffusion by Chakraborty.  相似文献

Contaminations in sediments by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and alkylated PAHs were investigated at 44 sites in Osaka Bay, Japan. Concentrations of total PAHs and alkylated PAHs were in the range 6.40–7800 ng/g dry weights and 13.7–1700 ng/g dry weights, respectively. The PAH concentrations tended to be higher along the shoreline in the vicinities of big ports, industrialized areas, and densely populated regions such as the cities of Osaka and Kobe. The major sources appeared to be pyrogenic or both pyrogenic and petrogenic at most of the sites. PAH concentrations were remarkably high at a site near Kobe, where the concentrations of dibenzo(a,h)anthracene and benzo(g,h,i)perylene exceeded the effects-range-medium concentration and eight PAHs were above the corresponding effects-range-low concentrations. Those PAHs may have been derived from the great fire associated with the large earthquake in 1995.  相似文献

地球化学研究结果表明,新疆北部富蕴县境内的晚古生代下泥盆统托让格库都克组的安山质岩石具有与埃达克岩非常相似的地球化学特征,它们具有较高的Al2O3,Na2O和Sr含量以及Sr/Y比值;明显亏损重稀土和Y,它们的MORB标准化微量元素蛛网图表现为明显的Nb,Ta负异常和Sr正异常,同时强烈亏损高场强元素。与埃达克岩共生的玄武岩的地球化学特征则与富铌玄武岩一致,表现为Si过饱和及富Na的特征,同时具有较高的Nb,TiO2和P2O5含量,并富集高场强元素。由于埃达克岩和富铌玄武岩的形成均与板块俯冲有关,因此,它们的存在表明,古亚洲洋在早-中泥盆世向南(哈萨克斯坦-准噶尔板块)发生了一次洋壳俯冲作用。  相似文献

Geoengineering such as solar radiation management (SRM) can be an emergent option to avoid devastating climatic warming, but its ramifications are barely understood. The perturbation of the Earth’s energy balance, atmospheric dynamics, and hydrological cycling may exert unexpected influences on natural and human systems. In this study, I evaluate the impacts of SRM deployment on terrestrial ecosystem functions using a process-based ecosystem model (the Vegetation Integrative Simulator for Trace gases, VISIT) driven by the climate projections by multiple climate models. In the SRM-oriented climate projections, massive injection of sulphate aerosols into the stratosphere lead to increased scattering of solar radiation and delayed anthropogenic climate warming. The VISIT simulations show that canopy light absorption and gross primary production are enhanced in subtropics in spite of the slight decrease of total incident solar radiation. The retarded temperature rise during the deployment period leads to lower respiration, and consequently, an additional net terrestrial ecosystem carbon uptake by about 20%. After the SRM termination, however, along with the temperature rise, this carbon is released rapidly to the atmosphere. As a result of altered precipitation and radiation budget, simulated runoff discharge is suppressed mainly in the tropics. These SRM-induced influences on terrestrial ecosystems occurr heterogeneously over the land surface and differed among the ecosystem functions. These responses of terrestrial functions should be taken into account when discussing the costs and benefits of geoengineering.  相似文献

Unpolarized infrared (IR) reflectance spectra for MgSiO3 ilmenite taken from a single-crystal and from a densly packed polycrystalline sample possessed all eight peaks mandated by symmetry between 337 and 850 cm?1. Polarizations were inferred from intensity differences between the two samples. IR peak positions differ by up to 250 cm?1 from recent calculations, but on average are within 11%. Heat capacity C p calculated from these data by using a Kieffer-type model are within the experimental uncertainty of calorimetric measurements from 170 to 700 K. Outside this range, calculated C p is probably accurate within a few percent, based on recent results for garnets. Calculated entropy is only slightly less accurate, giving S 0 (298.15 K) as 54.1 ±0.5 J/ mol-K, which is 10% lower than recent estimates based on phase equilibria. The slope of the phase boundary between ilmenite and perovskite is used to predict S 0 (298.15 K) of perovskite as 58.7 ±1.4 J/mol-K, which is 10% lower than previous values.  相似文献

In drylands, water deficit is the primary factor limiting plant growth. In the present study, surface energy balance and plant growth (above‐ground and below‐ground biomass) were measured continuously during the 2002 growing season in semiarid grassland in the northern part of Kazakhstan, Central Asia. Although there was above normal total rainfall during the 2002 growing season (May–November; 244 mm over 183 days), there was a dry period during July and August. Evaporative water was effectively supplied by precipitation and surface soil moisture during the wet season (May and June), during which time above‐ground biomass increased. During the early stages of the dry period, mature plants were likely to tap deeper sources of soil moisture, representing stored snowmelt water. As the soil moisture content decreased during the summer dry period due to the high levels of evapotranspiration and lack of precipitation, the evaporative fraction and above‐ground biomass rapidly decreased, whereas the below‐ground biomass increased. These results suggest that in summer, soil moisture acts to store water, and that soil moisture is essential for plant growth as a direct source of water during the dry period in natural grasslands in the Kazakhstan steppe. We investigate the total kinetic powers (L j) and ages (t age) of powerful jets of four FR II radio sources (Cygnus A, 3C 223, 3C 284, and 3C 219) by the detail comparison of the dynamical model of expanding cocoons with observed ones. It is found that these sources have quite large kinetic powers with the ratio of L j to the Eddington luminosity (L Edd) resides in 0.02<L j/L Edd<10. Reflecting the large kinetic powers, we also find that the total energy stored in the cocoon (E c) exceed the energy derived from the minimum energy condition (E min ): 2<E c/E min <160. This implies that a large amount of kinetic power is carried by invisible components such as thermal leptons (electron and positron) and/or protons.  相似文献

Magnesium orthosilicate with spinel structure (γ-Mg2SiO4) was synthesized at about 250 kbar and 1000°C. Unit cell dimension was established to be 8.076 ± 0.001Å. X-ray powder diffraction pattern revealed a significant difference between γ-Mg2SiO4 and other γ-M2SiO4 spinels (M = Fe, Co, and Ni) in the intensities of (111) and (331) reflections, both of which are virtually absent in the Mg2SiO4 spinel. This feature could be thoroughly understood by the calculation of the intensities for several silicate spinels.  相似文献

Summary. Middle Precambrian and Cretaceous kimberlites were collected from three sites (Premier, Montrose and National) and two sites (Wesselton and Koffyfontein) in South Africa respectively. The natural remanent magnetization of these rocks remains stable to both alternating field and thermal demagnetization. The virtual geomagnetic pole-positions derived from the directions of stable remanence of the Precambrian rocks can be correlated with palaeomagnetic poles obtained from other Middle-Late Precambrian rocks in Africa. The Cretaceous poles for the Wesselton and the Koffyfontein rocks coincide with other Cretaceous poles.  相似文献

The Tochiyama landslide is one of several complex, deep-seated and large-scale landslides occurring in the Hokuriku Province in central Japan. The landslide is about 2 km long and about 500–1100 m wide; it occupies an area of approximately 150 ha and has a maximum depth of 60 m. The slide developed on a dip-slope structure, and is divisible into three layers in ascending order: older landslide debris and avalanche deposits, younger debris-avalanche deposits, and talus. The landslide complex is still active. A triangulation point on the upper part of the landslide shifted downhill by 3.3 m from 1907 to 1983, indicating an average rate of 4.3 cm/y. In 1991, the average rate of movement on the sliding surface was also 4.3 cm/y as measured by an automatic system with inclinometers installed in borehole No. 1–2. The rate measured for borehole No. 1–3, located 380 m upslope from No. 1–2, was over twice that of No. 1–2 for the same period; it has since accelerated to about 19 cm/y. Thus current movements on the basal sliding surface are inhomogeneous; the head of the slide complex is increasing the horizontal granular pressures on the lower part of the slide block.

On the basis of dating of two tephra layers and14C dating of carbonized wood intercalated within the landslide body, two stages of slide movement have been distinguished. The earlier occurred between about 46,000 to 25,000 years ago, and the latter occurred since 1361 A.D. The following sequence of events is inferred. During the middle Pleistocene, intense tectonic movements occurred in the Hokuriku Province, and as a consequence dip-slopes were developed in the Tochiyama landslide area. Low-angle fault planes (possibly representing slump features) and fracture zones then developed within flysch deposits underlying the landslide area, causing a reduction in shear strength. The erosion base level was lowered during the Würm glacial age, and due to severe erosion and incision of stream valleys, the surface slope angle rapidly increased, and toe resistance decreased. This combination of causes led to the development of a deep-seated primary landslide. As a result of an accumulation of younger deposits, regional uplift and further local erosion, stability of parts of the region decreased and led to landslide activity of a second stage. Reactivated and locally accelerating creep movements occur today and may forewarn of a stage of reactivated, hazardous rapid sliding, such as occurred with the adjacent and analogous Maseguchi landslide in 1947.  相似文献
