The crystallization of nanolites within magma chambers has recently raised a strong interest due to their impact on increasing melt viscosity and triggering magmatic eruptions. In 2021, the Fukutoku-Oka-no-Ba (FOB) underwater eruption produced large quantities of pumices that eventually formed rafts drifting at the surface of the ocean to the East coasts of Japan. Pumices collected along the shore shortly after grounding show various colors, microscopic and Raman analyses made by Yoshida et al. (Island Arc, 31, 1, 2022) revealed the presence of magnetite nanolites in some of them. In this study, we explore the magnetic properties of a batch of pumices of different colors from the FOB eruption, aiming to refine characterization of iron oxide nanolites. We used various analytical techniques such as SEM and FEG-SEM observations, EDS-X analyses, and rock magnetic experiments, including thermomagnetic analyses, hysteresis curves, coercivity analyses and FORC measurements. Our findings reveal that the iron oxides present in the FOB samples are Ti-magnetite, with minor amounts of Mg and Al. The magnetic crystals show a wide range of sizes, from extra small iron oxide nanolites (ESION) in the pumices with the lighter colors, to more bulky grains reaching the micrometer size in some of the dark color samples, significant diffusion is inferred in that case. Consequently, the magnetic characterization of iron oxide crystals within the Fukutoku-Oka-no-Ba pumices reveals varying stages of nucleation, dissolution, growth, and diffusion processes, providing evidences for the heterogeneous state of the magma during the eruption.  相似文献

We report two new eclogite localities (at Kanayamadani and Shinadani) in the high‐P (HP) metamorphic rocks of the Omi area in the western most region of Niigata Prefecture, Japan, which form part of the Hida Gaien Belt, and determine metamorphic conditions and pressure–temperature (PT) paths. The metamorphic evolution of the eclogites is characterized by a tight hairpin‐shaped PT path from prograde epidote–blueschist facies to peak eclogite facies and then retrograde blueschist facies. The prograde metamorphic stage is characterized by various amphibole (winchite, barroisite, glaucophane) inclusions in garnet, whereas the peak eclogite facies assemblage is characterized by omphacite, garnet, phengite and rutile. Peak PT conditions of the eclogites were estimated to be ~600°C and up to 2.0 GPa by conventional cation‐exchange thermobarometry, Ti‐in‐zircon thermometry and quartz inclusion Raman barometry respectively. However, the Raman spectra of carbonaceous material thermometry of metapelites associated with the eclogites gave lower peak temperatures, possibly due to metamorphism at different conditions before being brought together during exhumation. The blueschist facies overprint following the peak of metamorphism is recognized by the abundance of glaucophane in the matrix. Zircon grains in blueschist facies metasedimentary samples from two localities adjacent to the eclogites have distinct oscillatory‐zoned cores and overgrowth rims. Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry U–Pb ages of the detrital cores yield a wide range between 3,200 and 400 Ma, with a peak at 600–400 Ma. In the early Palaeozoic, proto‐Japan was located along the continental margin of the South China craton, providing the source of the older population of detrital zircon grains (3,200–600 Ma) deposited in the trench‐fill sediments. In addition, subduction‐related magmatism c. 500–400 Ma is recorded in the crust below proto‐Japan, which might have been the source for the younger detrital zircon grains. The peak metamorphic age was constrained by SHRIMP dating of the overgrowth rims, yielding Tournaisian ages of 347 ± 4 Ma, suggesting subduction in the early Carboniferous. Our results provide clear constraints on the initiation of subduction, accretion and the development of an arc‐trench system along the active continental margin of the South China craton and help to unravel the Palaeozoic tectonic history of proto‐Japan.  相似文献

Three‐dimensional spherical mantle convection was simulated to predict future continental motion and investigate the driving force of continental motion. Results show that both the time required (≥300 Ma from the present) and the process for the next supercontinent formation are sensitive to the choice of critical rheological parameters for mantle dynamics, such as a viscosity contrast between the upper and lower mantles and a yield strength of the lithosphere. From all the numerical models studied herein, mantle drag force by horizontal mantle flow beneath the continents may mostly act as a resistance force for the continental motion in the process of forming a new supercontinent. The maximum absolute magnitude of the tensional and compressional stress acting at the base of the moving continents is in the order of 100 MPa, which is comparable to a typical value of the slab pull force.  相似文献

A method for measuring the two-dimensional distribution of wind velocity vectors near a surface exposed to solar radiation, by tracking brightness temperature images instead of particle images, is proposed. It is based on time-sequential thermography with the algorithm used for particle image velocimetry. This thermal image velocimetry (TIV) was tested on a full-scale building wall covered by polystyrene boards attached side-by-side over a vertically elongated area measuring 22.2 m by 2.73 m. A thermal infrared camera was installed 8 m from the test wall to capture the wall-surface temperature at 30 Hz frequency. A sonic anemometer was also installed 35 mm from the surface used for validation of the TIV. The advection velocity estimated from thermal infrared imagery had a linear relationship with the wind velocity measured by the sonic anemometer, irrespective of the wind speed and direction. This linear slope was multiplied by the advection velocity of the thermal infrared image to rescale it to the wind velocity, and the term ‘TIV velocity’ was then used. A histogram and power spectra of the TIV velocity showed quantitatively good agreement with the velocity measured by the sonic anemometer, except for the high-frequency region of the spectra, where the TIV velocity was overestimated compared with that of the sonic anemometer. The method was also tested on ground covered by artificial turf to demonstrate its application to a horizontal plane with a wider area, extending for more than 80 m by 60 m.  相似文献

本文研究了日本内陆及其外围海域发生大地震后的地震活动迁移现象。在所研究的6个震例中,一个共同的特点是,地震活动的迁移总是沿着地壳内的活动地质构造带发生。有时可以根据地震活动的迁移来进一步确定活动构造带的存在。把板块边缘地区的地震活动类比为沿着力学偶合平面迁移和扩散,我们可以认为,岛上的活动构造带对应着地壳块体的力学相互作用边界。地震迁移的形式可能不只一种。在我们所研究的震例中发现了以下特征:地震迁移速度约为几km/年;大地震震源区之间存在着地震空区;在每一条地震带上有一定的地震活动周期。地震迁移的一种可能机制是:由于地壳块体的相对运动,在其边界上的凹凸不平区造成了构造应力集中,这些凹凸不平区相继地发生破裂,形成了地震迁移。  相似文献

Genesis of the extremely low-K tonalites from the island arc volcanism   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The Adachi-Medeshima pumice deposit of the Late Pleistocene age, found in Northeast Japan, contains extremely low-K tonalite fragments, having a wide variation in SiO2 content but fairly uniform K2O content (<0.1%). The tonalites coexist with essential dacite fragments. Mineralogical properties of the tonalites are the same as those of the pumice and dacite fragments. Sr isotope ratios of the tonalite, dacite fragments and pumice also fall within a narrow range. By assuming a Rayleigh fractionation model, the concentration of incompatible trace elements in cumulus phases was calculated, and the amounts of major elements were estimated from the fractionation ratios of each mineral and the volume ratio of crystal-liquid. The estimated element abundances of the cumulus phase show a MORB normalized pattern similar to that of the natural tonalite having cumulate textures. Thus, the tonalite represents the cumulus phase precipitated from dacite magma. Equilibrium temperatures and fO2 of the tonalites, dacite fragments and pumice were estimated from coexisting magnetite-ilmenite pairs at 876°–796° C and –logfO2 = 9.8–11.9, respectively. The fO2 is among highest group yet reported. This is a case of extremely low-K tonalite which formed in the island arc system different from the oceanic environments.  相似文献
