Bodrum Peninsula is located between Hellenic Trench in the west and Gökova Fault Zone in the east which is affected by hundreds of earthquakes every year. Because of its active environment is allowed to monitor tracers/precursors continuously to analyse natural processes. This study focused on the determination of ground water radon (222Rn) concentrations in the Bodrum Peninsula in terms of seismic activities. Radon levels of ten ground water wells were measured periodically throughout the peninsula and these wells were divided into two groups according to the number of earthquakes they are exposed. Radon variations in second group stations are fairly significant as a result of high number of earthquakes. In these stations, radon continuously increased before the seismic storm and then decreased step by step. The results indicated that radon variations in ground waters of Bodrum Peninsula can be a good indicator for seismic storms instead of one specific event.  相似文献

Human activities and agriculture have had direct and indirect effects on the rates of contamination of groundwater in the Incesu-Dokuzp inar spring area. Direct effects include dissolution and transport of excess quantities of fertilizers with associated materials and hydrological alterations related to irrigation and drainage. Indirect effects may include changes in water–rock reactions in soils and aquifers caused by increased concentrations of dissolved oxidants, protons, and major ions. Agricultural activities have directly or indirectly affected the concentrations of a large number of inorganic chemicals in groundwater, for example NO 3, N 2, Cl, SO 4 2, H +, K, Mg, Ca, Fe, Cu, B, Pb, and Zn, as well as a wide variety of pesticides and other organic compounds. For reactive contaminants like NO 3, it is recommended that a combination of hydrochemical and environmental-tracer analytical approaches might be required to resolve changing inputs from subsequent alterations as causes of concentration gradients in groundwater. The water type of Dokuzp inar springs is mainly Na–Mg–Ca–Cl–HCO 3. Note that the water types of the springs were directly related to the hydrogeochemical properties of outcrops at the study area. Thus, the high concentration of Ca 2+ and HCO 3 is mainly related to the high CO 2 contents in the marbles, whereas the high Na concentration arises from the existing syenite, volcanic ash, basalt, and clay units, although the Incesu-Dokuzp inar springs cover most of the drinking and irrigation water demands of this area. The high concentrations of NO 3 and NaCl show that the area around the springs is continuously being contaminated by untreated sewage and agricultural wastes, especially during dry periods. Therefore, this approach is based on the vulnerability studies of the catchment area, determination of the transfer time of the pollutant, and the water-bearing formations of Incesu-Dokuzp inar springs. Vulnerability in this study is defined as the intrinsic hydrogeochemical characteristics of an aquifer, which may show the sensitivity of groundwater to be contaminated by different human activities.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to present especially the source and the type of liquefaction-related failures of those buildings which satisfied the structural codes of buildings and practices but experienced settlement, tilting and overturning in Adapazari during the Turkey earthquake of August 17, 1999. In this context, the Adapazari region is first evaluated in terms of geological setting, tectonics, seismicity and liquefaction susceptibility based on in situ and laboratory test data. In addition, the number of stories, types of buildings and their related failures have been mapped accordingly. Furthermore, laboratory model tests are conducted to enforce and/or confirm the type of building's failures with particular reference to their geometrical shape and the number of stories assuming that the models representing buildings satisfy the structural codes of buildings and practices.  相似文献

The joint between concrete slab and rockfill is designed as welded contact in the classical modeling of concrete-faced rockfill (CFR) dams and earthquake response of the CFR dams is determined by this method. In this study, linear and nonlinear response of Torul CFR Dam including interface element between concrete slab and rockfill were investigated for the duration of strong seismic excitation. The finite element analyses were performed by employing both cases, empty and full reservoir, to research the effect of the reservoir water on the earthquake response of the dam. The reservoir water was modeled with fluid finite elements by the Lagrangian approach. The Drucker-Prager model was used in nonlinear analyses for concrete slab, rockfill and soil materials. According to finite element analyses, displacement and stress components were increased by hydrodynamic pressure. The nonlinear response of the concrete slab was monitored about the peak ground acceleration (pga). This study reveals that the size of sliding zone increases with increasing acceleration amplitudes.  相似文献

There are 59 springs at the Gevas–Gurp?nar–Güzelsu basins, 38 of these springs emerge from the fractured karst aquifers (recrystallized limestone and travertine) and 21 emerge from the Yuksekova ophiolites, K?rkgeçit formation and alluvium. The groundwater samples collected from 38 out of the total of 59 springs, two streams, one lake and 12 wells were analyzed physico-chemically in the year 2002. EC and TDS values of groundwater increased from the marble (high altitude) to the ophiolites and alluvium (toward Lake Van) as a result of carbonate dissolution and connate seawater. Five chemical types of groundwater are identified: Ca–Mg–HCO3, Mg–Ca–HCO3, Mg–Na–HCO3, Na–Ca–HCO3 and Mg–Ca–Na–HCO3. The calculations and hydrochemical interpretations show that the high concentrations of Ca2+, Mg2+ and HCO3 ? as predominant ions in the waters are mainly attributed to carbonate rocks and high pCO2 in soil. Most of the karst springs are oversaturated in calcite, aragonite and dolomite and undersaturated in gypsum, halite and anhydrite. The water–rock interaction processes that singly or in combination influence the chemical composition of each water type include dissolution of carbonate (calcite and dolomite), calcite precipitation, cation exchange and freshening of connate seawater. These processes contribute considerably to the concentration of major ions in the groundwater. Stable isotope contents of the groundwater suggest mainly direct integrative recharge.  相似文献

Gold in the Sahinli and Tespih Dere intermediate sulfidation gold-base metal deposits in Western Turkey occurs in relatively deep epithermal quartz veins along with base metal minerals which have epithermal textures, including plumose quartz, vug infills, comb and cockade textures and matrix-supported milled breccias. The total sulfide content of the veins in the area is variable ranging from < 1% to 60% and is dominated by pyrite, galena, sphalerite and chalcopyrite. Sphalerite is Fe-poor (0.6 to 1.4 mol% FeS). Minor amounts of Ag-rich tetrahedrite are present. Primary hydrothermal alteration minerals include illite/muscovite, mixed-layer illite/smectite (11.6 Å) and clinochlore towards the east and, alunite, dickite/nacrite and pyrophyllite towards the west at Sahinli; major illite/muscovite and dickite occur at Tespih Dere and Sarioluk, respectively.Fluid inclusions in main-stage quartz at Sahinli are only liquid-rich, with homogenization temperatures ranging from 220 to 322 °C and the majority of Th values between 250 and 300 °C. Salinity ranges from 4.3 to 6.9 wt.% NaCl equiv. First ice-melting temperatures (Tmf) between ?24.5 and ?19.0 °C indicate that the fluids were dominated by NaCl  H2O during mineralization. The relatively higher average Th at the Tespih Dere deposit (295 °C) is attributed to a relatively deeper level of exposure.Calculated δ18O values indicate that ore-forming hydrothermal fluids in the study area had δ18OH2O ranging from + 1.1 to + 9.7‰ (average = 3.8‰), strongly 18O-enriched compared with present-day hydrothermal meteoric water in the area (δ18O = ?8.5‰). δD values of fluid inclusions in quartz range from ?58 to ?93‰ and δD values of clay minerals and alunite from ?40 to ?119‰. δD values from intermediate argillic alteration (average = ?68‰) in the study area are very similar to δD values of the present-day local geothermal system (average δD = ?54‰) whereas δD values from advanced-argillic alteration (average δD = ?33‰) are very different from the present-day local geothermal system.The δ34S values in samples from the Sahinli and Tespih Dere deposits average ?2.9‰ for pyrite; ?3.3‰ for chalcopyrite; ?5.4‰ for sphalerite and ?7.6‰ for galena. These data are consistent with derivation of the sulfur from either igneous rocks or possibly from local wallrock.  相似文献
