Abstract

While beginning to establish a German Civil GPS Information and Observation Service in 1990, the actual and (near) future GPS market in Germany was analyzed. In addition, the feasibility of using GPS for water authority tasks has been studied during past years. Typical capabilities in this area are real‐time positioning for hydrographic surveying (kinematic application) and precise transfer of levels to tide gauges and verification at offshore positions.

The article describes the user interests, the requirements, some of the test campaigns, and the derived concepts for future applications.  相似文献

Remanent magnetization (RM) of rocks with hematite–ilmenite solid solution (HISS) minerals, at all crustal levels, may be an important contribution to magnetic anomalies measured by ground and satellite altitude surveys. The possibility that lower thermal gradient relatively deep in the crust can result in exsolution of HISS compositions with strong remanent magnetizations (RM) was studied for two bulk compositions within the HISS system. Samples from granulite-terrane around Wilson Lake, Labrador, Canada contains titanohematite with exsolved ferrian ilmenite lamellae. Other samples from the anorthosite-terrane of Allard Lake, Quebec, Canada contain ferrian ilmenite with exsolved titanohematite lamellae. In both cases, the final exsolved titanohematite has similar Ti content and carries dominant magnetic remanence with REM (=NRM/SIRM, where NRM is the natural remanent magnetization and SIRM is the saturation isothermal remanent magnetization) that is comparable to the Ti-free end member. The RM was acquired prior to exsolution and the ilmeno-hematite-rich rock possesses thermal remanent magnetization (TRM), whereas rocks with hemo-ilmenite possess chemical remanent magnetization (CRM). In both cases, we found fairly large homogeneous grains with low demagnetizing energy that acquired intense RM. The magnetism of the ilmeno-hematite solid solution phases is not significantly perturbed by the continuous reaction: ilmeno-hematitetitanohematite solid solution. Hence, the occurrence of HISS in rocks that cooled slowly in a low intensity magnetic field will have an intense magnetic signature characterized by a large REM.  相似文献

Magnetic Anomalies on the Tree Trunks   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Magnetic measurements of soil and tree bark adjacent to a busy highway revealed a significant variation in the concentration of magnetic particles with distance from the highway. Further more, forest-facing tree-bark contains significantly more magnetic particles than road-facing tree-bark. Magnetic particles were detected both on the bark of the maple trees and in the first centimeter of the soil cover (O/A horizon). Stability of saturation isothermal magnetization (SIRM) and hysteresis parameters of the soil indicates the presence of single domain (SD/PSD) magnetic carriers. Measurements of the tree bark hysteresis parameters and SIRM detect a significant lower coercivity component that we interpret to be an indication of more abundant pseudo-single domain (PSD) type magnetic grains. Magnetic measurements around the perimeters of eight tree trunks reveal magnetic carriers whose distribution is antipodal to the source direction (highway). We interpret our observation by adopting an air circulation model, where suspended PSD/SD particles are carried in the air stream. The air stream from the heavy traffic lowers the amount of moisture on the tree trunk surfaces facing the highway and thus reduces an adhesive potential on this side. Therefore, more particles can stay on the moist side of the trunk protected from the direct airflow.  相似文献

Alternative assignment of invariant point stabilities in a possible P – T  phase diagram is given by a family of grids that derives from a form of the Euler equation. Invariant points are represented by great circles that divide the surface of a sphere (the Euler sphere) into polygonal regions that correspond to the number of potential solutions or grids in n -component systems with n +3 non-degenerate phases. A particular invariant point is stable in all grids on one side of the great circle and metastable on the other. The advantage of this representation is the ease and efficiency by which all grids consistent with experimental and theoretical constraints can be identified. The method is well suited for systems of n +3 phases in which the thermochemical data necessary for direct calculation of the phase diagram is either uncertain or non-existent for one or more of the phases. The mass balance equations among the n +3 phases of interest define the Euler sphere for any particular system. There is a unique Euler sphere for unary systems, and another for binary systems. Ternary and quaternary systems have four and 11 different types of Euler spheres, respectively. In the ternary case with six phases, the 16 non-degenerate chemographies belong to four groups that are associated with the four Euler spheres. An analysis of those groups shows a close relationship between the topologies of the chemographies and the topologies of the grids represented on the Euler sphere. Euler spheres for degenerate chemographies are characterized by a smaller number of spherical polygons. A useful application of the Euler sphere concept is the systematic derivation of possible FMAS petrogenetic grids from subsystem constraints. Assumption of just one stable invariant point in each of MAS and FAS systems is consistent with seven FMAS grids involving cordierite, garnet, hypersthene, quartz, sapphirine, sillimanite and spinel.  相似文献

A suite of Sierra Madera Impact deformed rocks was studied and magnetic analyses were performed. We characterized the magnetic signatures of two locations, sites A and B that have different physical characteristics of shock fractured structures as well as the magnetic signatures. Shatter cone at site A has a fine-scale (few to ∼10 mm) distributed array of complete shatter cones with sharp apex. Natural remanent magnetization (NRM) of site A shatter cone is distributed within the plane that is perpendicular to the apexes of the cones. Shatter cone at site B shows no apparent cone shape or apex, instead, a relatively larger scale and multiple striated joint set (MSJS) and sinusoidal continuous peak. NRM of site B shatter cone is clustered along the apexes. The difference in magnetization direction is a likely indicator of the shock pressure where parallel to apex indicates pressures larger than 10 GPa and perpendicular to apex indicate pressures less than 10 GPa. Intensities of NRM and saturation isothermal remanent magnetization (SIRM) contrast and fluctuate within a shatter cone as well as in between two sites. We observed a random orientation of magnetic vector directions and amplitudes changing over small scales leading to the absence of coherent macro-scale signature.  相似文献

Magnetic minerals are mostly identified by a combination of rock magnetic and microscopic techniques and the ferrofluid method in combination with an optical microscope was applied during the last decades. But today, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is preferred for the observation of mineral phases because its depth of focus and resolving capability at the same magnification. In this study, we report on a method, which allows ferrofluid application under the SEM. We coated a polished basalt sample containing titanomagnetite grains with high demagnetizing fields, with a colloidal suspension containing magnetite particles (ferrofluid) ranging in size between 11 and 20 nm. Due to large gradients of multidomain grains the ferrofluid particles adhered to their surfaces. Other grains of similar composition present (ilmenohematite) but with low demagnetizing fields do not generate large magnetic gradients and therefore do not attract the colloidal particles. Upon evaporation of the ferrofluid and covering the sample with conducting material the magnetic grains with high demagnetizing field are easily identifiable under the scanning electron microscope. The different mineralogy observed by this method is confirmed by temperature dependent variation of magnetic susceptibility, revealing titanomagnetite and ilmenohematite as magnetic carriers in the basaltic samples.  相似文献

A high-resolution multichannel seismic reflection river profiling campaign was completed in July 2002 in the southern Upper Rhine graben (URG), along the River Rhine. Preliminary results show apparent Quaternary vertical slip rates, on intra-graben faults that are relatively slow, of the order of a few thousandths to a few hundredths of mm/yr. Moreover, kinematical data from the Ludwigshafen area show decreasing vertical slip rates since the Middle Pleistocene and/or a migration of tectonic activity. While still preliminary, these data show inhomogeneous and relatively slow tectonic activity in the URG that could probably not alone have shaped the Quaternary graben morphology.
