Water vapor plays an important role in the global climate system. A clear relationship between water vapor and solar activity can explain some physical mechanisms of how solar activity influences terrestrial weather/climate changes. To gain insight of this possible relationship, the atmospheric precipitable water vapor (PWV) as the terrestrial climate response was observed by ground-based GPS receivers over the Antarctic stations. The PWV changes analyzed for the period from 2003 to 2008 coincided with the declining phase of solar cycle 23 exhibited following the solar variability trend. Their relationship showed moderate to strong correlation with 0.45 < R 2 < 0.93 (p < 0.01), on a monthly basis. This possible relationship suggests that when the solar-coupled geomagnetic activity is stronger, the Earth’s surface will be warmer, as indicated by electrical connection between ionosphere and troposphere.  相似文献

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC 1992) calls for stabilization of atmospheric greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. We use three global energy system models to investigate the technological and economic attainability of meeting CO2 concentration targets below current levels. Our scenario studies reveal that while energy portfolios from a broad range of energy technologies are needed to attain low concentrations, negative emission technologies—e.g., biomass energy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS)—significantly enhances the possibility to meet low concentration targets (at around 350 ppm CO2).  相似文献

New metamorphic petrology and geochronology from the Loe Sar dome in the Swat region of northern Pakistan place refined constraints on the pressure, temperature and timing of metamorphism and deformation in that part of the Himalayan orogen. Thermodynamic modelling and monazite petrochronology indicate that metamorphism in the area followed a prograde evolution from ~525 ± 25 ℃and 6 士 0.5 kbar to ~610 ± 25 ℃ and 9 士 0.5 kbar, between ca. 39 Ma and 28 Ma. Partitioning of heavy rare earth elements between garnet rims and 30-28 Ma monazite are interpreted to indicate coeval crystallization at peak conditions. Microtextural relationships indicate that garnet rim growth post-dated the development of the main foliation in the area. The regional foliation is folded about large-scale N-S trending fold axes and overprinting E-W trending folds to form km-scale domal culminations. The textural relationships observed indicate that final dome development must be younger than the 30-28 Ma monazite that grew with garnet rims post-regional foliation development, but pre-doming-related deformation. This new timing constraint helps resolve discrepancy between previous interpretations,which have alternately suggested that N-S trending regional folds must be either pre-or post-early Oligocene. Finally, when combined with existing hornblende and white mica cooling ages, these new data indicate that the study area was exhumed rapidly following peak metamorphism.  相似文献

A spectrum of the satellite of Jupiter, Io, from 0.86 to 2.7 μm at a resolution of 3.36 cm?1 and a signal to rms noise ratio of 120 is presented. No absorptions due to any atmospheric constituents on Io could be found on the spectrum. Upper limits of 0.12 cm-atm for NH3, 0.12cm-atm for CH4, 0.4cm-atm for N2O, and 24cm-atm for H2S were determined. Laboratory spectra of ammonia frosts as a function of temperature were compared with the spectrum of Io and showed as a frost not to be present at the surface of Io. A search for possible resonance lines of carbon, silicon, and sulfur as well as the 1.08μm line of helium proved negative and upper emission limits of 60, 18, 27, and 60 kilorayleighs, respectively, were established for these lines.  相似文献

A high-resolution Fourier spectrum (1.7–3.5 μm) and medium-resolution spectrophotometry (2.7–4.2 μm) were obtained for Asteroid 1 Ceres. The presence of the 3-μm absorption feature due to water of hydration was confirmed. The 3-μm feature is compared with the 3-μm bands due to water of hydration in clays and salts. It is concluded that the spectrum of Ceres shows a strong absorption at 2.7–2.8 μm due to structural OH groups in clay minerals. The dominant minerals on the surface of Ceres are therefore hydrated clay minerals structurally similar to terrestrial montmorillonites. There is also a narrow absorption feature at 3.1 μm which is attributable to a very small amount of water ice on Ceres. This is the first evidence for ice on the surface of an asteroid.  相似文献

Mixing in a two-layer stably stratified fluid by a turbulent jet was studied by a laboratory experiment. A non-swirling jet was discharged vertically downwards in a confined fluid system consisting initially of a top layer of fresh water and a bottom layer of salt water. In total, 16 experimental cases were considered, where the diameter and exit velocity of the jet were varied together with the density difference between the top and bottom layer. Vertical density profiles were determined from conductivity measurements. A three-layer density structure developed in all cases with an intermediate layer that grew in size with time elapsed as fresh and salt water were mixed. The mixing efficiency, defined as the percentage of the supplied kinetic jet energy that is used for increasing the potential energy of the fluid system, was related to a densimetric Froude number based on the intermediate layer depth. Overall, the calculated jet mixing efficiency displayed higher values than comparable efficiencies for destratification with air-bubble plumes.  相似文献

Magnetic lineations in the Pacific Jurassic quiet zone   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Magnetic anomalies of low amplitude (<100 gammas) are present in the Jurassic magnetic quiet zone of the western Pacific Ocean. These small anomalies are lineated and can be correlated among the Phoenix, Hawaiian and Japanese lineation patterns. Thus, they represent seafloor spreading that recorded some sort of magnetic field phenomena prior to magnetic anomaly M25 at 153 m.y. B.P. The most likely possibility is that they represent a series of late Jurassic magnetic field reversals that occurred during a period of anomalously low magnetic field intensity. We propose a time scale of magnetic reversals between 153 and 158 m.y. B.P. to account for these anomalies and suggest that the dipole magnetic field intensity increased by a factor of about four from 160 to 140 m.y. B.P. in the late Jurassic.  相似文献

Analytical heat transfer calculations are used to relate geological surface evidence to conditions that should exist in magma chambers for the purpose of improving estimates of possible commercial heat extraction rates. These calculations indicate that an upward-melting magma system necessarily is approximately equidimensional and that injected magmas with very high aspect (L/D) ratios are likely formed by a forced intrusion process which involves little if any melting or natural convection. Calculations along with surface heat flow measurements suggest that steady-state heat extraction rates for emplaced heat exchangers in currently suspected shallow magma chambers will probably be below 10 kW m−2, a value that is low by engineering standards.  相似文献

A palaeomagnetic study of dolerites spread over a large area in the coastal part of Ångermanland, central Sweden, introduces a palaeopole close to poles obtained from Jotnian or post-Jotnian dolerites in Finland, implying that all these rocks belong to the same intrusive phase.  相似文献
