By subsidence analysis on eighteen surface sections and 6 wells, which cover large part of the Iberian Basin (E Spain) and which are marked by high-resolution stratigraphy of the Permian, Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous, we quantify the complex Permian and Mesozoic tectonic subsidence history of the basin. Backstripping analysis of the available high resolution and high surface density of the database allows to quantify spatial and temporal patterns of tectonically driven subsidence to a much higher degree than previous studies. The sections and wells have also been forward modelled with a new ‘automated' modelling technique, with unlimited number of stretching phases, in order to quantify variations in timing and magnitude of rifting. It is demonstrated that the tectonic subsidence history in the Iberian Basin is characterized by pulsating periods of stretching intermitted by periods of relative tectonic quiescence and thermal subsidence. The number of stretching phases appears to be much larger than found by earlier studies, showing a close match with stretching phases found in other parts of the Iberian Peninsula and allowing a clear correlation with discrete phases in the opening of the Tethys and Atlantic. 相似文献

Based on the systematic investigation of the geochemical and isotopic (Sr and Nd) characteristics of basic rocks from various
volcanic areas of the Devonian Altai-Sayan rift system, the compositions of mantle magma sources were characterized, and the
geodynamic scenarios of their entrainment into rifting processes were reconstructed. It was found that the titanium-rich basic
rocks (2.5 < TiO2 < 4.2 wt %) of this region are enriched in lithophile trace elements, including the rare earth elements, compared with N-MORB
and are similar in composition to intraplate subalkali basalts of the OIB type. In contrast, moderate-titanium basic rocks
(1.1 < TiO2 < 2.5 wt %) are mainly depleted in the highly charged incompatible elements Th, U, Nb, and Ta (La/Yb = 1.2−2.2) and, to a
lesser extent, in Zr, Hf, and LREE ((La/Yb)N < 7), but are enriched in Ba. With respect to these characteristics, the moderate-titanium basites are similar to rocks formed
in subduction environments. The geochemical parameters of the basites are strongly variable, which probably reflects the heterogeneity
of the mantle sources that contributed to the formation of the rift system. In particular, the most notable variations in
rock composition related to an increase in the contribution of an OIB-type source to magma composition were observed in the
eastern direction, i.e., inland from the paleocontinent margin. The isotopic composition of the basites is relatively stable
within individual rift zones and significantly variable at a comparison of rocks from different zones of the region. Based
on the isotopic characteristics of the rocks, three melt sources were identified. One of them is chemically similar to the
PREMA and is a common component in all observed trends of isotopic variations, irrespective of the position of the particular
assemblage in the structure of the region. This component dominates the composition of the titaniumrich basalts with geochemical
signatures of the derivatives of enriched mantle reservoirs of the E-MORB and OIB types and is considered as a plume source.
Two other isotopic melt sources are related to subduction processes, which is indicated by their dominance during the formation
of the moderate-titanium basalts showing the geochemical signatures (primarily, Ta-Nb depletion) of typical volcanic-arc rocks.
These differences are consistent with the formation of the Altai-Sayan rift system in a complex geodynamic setting, which
developed under the influence of intraplate magma sources (mantle plume) on the region of melt generation in an active continental

Concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were determined in species of commercial fish and lobsters following an oil-spill just off the protected Madagascan coastline. Samples were collected along the coastline within and outside the affected area. Summed PAH concentrations ranged from 1.9 μg kg−1 to 63 μg kg−1 wet weight, but with no higher molecular weight PAHs (>202 Da) being detected. All concentrations of benzo[a]pyrene, benz[a]anthracene and dibenz[a,h]anthracene were <0.1 μg kg−1 wet weight, well within the EU and UK set limits for the protection of human health. Additionally, samples were calculated as the benzo[a]pyrene toxic equivalency quotient (TEQ) and found to be well below the level of concern in relation to health of human consumers. Evaluation of the biota PAH data indicated the origin of PAH was predominantly petrogenic with >80% arising from oil sources. We present the seismic energy, strain energy, frequency–magnitude relation (b-value) and decay rate of aftershocks (p-value) for the aftershock sequences of the Andaman–Sumatra earthquakes of December 26, 2004 (M
w 9.3) and March 28, 2005 (M
w 8.7). The energy released in aftershocks of 2004 and 2005 earthquake was 0.135 and 0.365% of the energy of the respective
mainshocks, while the strain release in aftershocks was 39 and 71% for the two earthquakes, respectively. The b-value and p-value indicate normal value of about 1. All these parameters are in normal range and indicate normal stress patterns and
mechanical properties of the medium. Only the strain release in aftershocks was considerable. The fourth largest earthquake
in this region since 2004 occurred in September 2007 off the southern coast of Island of Sumatra, generating a relatively
minor tsunami as indicated by sea level gauges. The maximum wave amplitude as registered by the Padang, tide gauge, north
of the earthquake epicenter was about 60 cm. TUNAMI-N2 model was used to investigate ability of the model to capture the minor
tsunami and its effect on the eastern Indian Coast. A close comparison of the observed and simulated tsunami generation, propagation
and wave height at tide gauge locations showed that the model was able to capture the minor tsunami phases. The directivity
map shows that the maximum tsunami energy was in the southwest direction from the strike of the fault. Since the path of the
tsunami for Indian coastlines is oblique, there were no impacts along the Indian coastlines except near the coast of epicentral

The paper analyses the transformation of tsunami-type solitary waves, propagating from the abyssal part of the Black Sea towards
its shelf zone. The study is performed by solving numerically unidimensional non-linear equations for non-dispersive long
waves, using the finite-difference slope and shelf, with the full wave reflection prescribed at a 10 m depth contour. The
non-linearity of the process is shown to throughly impact the reflection of waves by the shore and the shape of the reflected
wave. Tsunami wave heights have been seen to increase by several times in the Black sea shelf area.

The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is constructing a small autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) with an onboard mission control computer. The mission controller software for this vehicle is a knowledge-based artificial intelligence (AI) system requiring thorough analysis and testing before the AUV is operational. The manner in which rapid prototyping of this software has been demonstrated by developing a controller code on a LISP machine and using an Ethernet link with a graphics workstation to simulate the controller's environment is discussed. The development of a testing simulator using a knowledge engineering environment (KEE) expert system shell that examines AUV controller subsystems and vehicle models before integrating them with the full AUV for its test environment missions is discussed.
