The hydrodynamic instability, which develops on the contact surface between two fluids, has great importance in astrophysical
phenomena such as the inhomogeneous density distribution following a supernova event. In this event acceleration waves pass
across a material interface and initiate and enhance unstable conditions in which small perturbations grow dramatically.
In the present study, an experimental technique aimed at investigating the above-mentioned hydrodynamic instability is presented.
The experimental investigation is based on a shock-tube apparatus by which a shock wave is generated and initiates the instability
that develops on the contact surface between two gases. The flexibility of the system enables one to vary the initial shape
of the contact surface, the shock-wave Mach number, and the density ratio across the contact surface.
Three selected sets of shock-tube experiments are presented in order to demonstrate the system capabilities: (1) large-initial
amplitudes with low-Mach-number incident shock waves; (2) small-initial amplitudes with moderate-Mach-number incident shock
waves; and (3) shock bubble interaction.
In the large-amplitude experiments a reduction of the initial velocity with respect to the linear growth prediction was measured.
The results were compared to those predicted by a vorticity-deposition model and to previous experiments with moderate- and
high-Mach number incident shock waves that were conducted by others. In this case, a reduction of the initial velocity was
noted. However, at late times the growth rate had a 1/t behavior as in the small-amplitude low-Mach number case. In the small-amplitude moderate-Mach number shock experiments a
reduction from the impulsive theory was noted at the late stages.
The passage of a shock wave through a spherical bubble results in the formation of a vortex ring. Simple dimensional analysis
shows that the circulation depends linearly on the speed of sound of the surrounding material and on the initial bubble radius. 相似文献

The southwest monsoon that dominated Central Himalaya has preserved loessic silt deposits preserved in patches that are proximal to periglacial areas. The occurrence of such silts suggests contemporary prevalence of cold and dry northwesterly winds. Field stratigraphy, geochemistry, mineral magnetism, infrared stimulated luminescence (IRSL) and radiocarbon dating has enabled reconstruction of an event chronology during the past 20 ka. Three events of loess accretion could be identified. The first two events of loess deposition occurred betweem 20 and 9 ka and were separated by a phase of moderate weathering. Pedogenesis at the end of this event gave rise to a well‐developed soil that was bracketed around 9 to > 4 ka. This was followed by the third phase of loess accretion that occurred around 4 to > 1 ka. The present fundamental reference system is defined by the FK5 Fundamental Reference Catalog and the associated IAU Resolutions of 1976 through 1982. The source IRAS 03134 + 5958 identified by Iyengar & Verma (1984) on the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS) prints with
a nonstellar optical object with [P – R]≃ 5.3 ± 1.5 is near the edge of Lynds dark cloud No. 1384 and is either embedded in or behind the cloud. The galactic latitude
of this source (b
II = 2‡.3), its positionvis-a-vis the Lynds dark cloud, its nonstellar appearance, high [P – R] colour and its far-infrared spectrum, all suggest the possibility of its being a Herbig-Haro (HH) object. To test this possibility
we undertook measurements of its proper motion and variability (two of the characteristic properties of HH objects). These
yield μa = (3.6 ± 2.3) arcsec/century and μδ= (−1.2 ± 2.0) arcsec/century for its proper motion. The source reveals large variation in brightness between 1950 and 1954.
Optical line studies of the source are required to confirm its classification as an HH object. 相似文献

An analytical model for the constant-head pumping test is developed for a partially penetrating well that has a finite thickness skin, and intersects a single vertical fracture. In the model, the fracture is fully confined and flow occurs only in the fracture. The model is developed using Laplace transform and finite Fourier transform methods. The model is to be used for analysing well test data from vertically fractured media and for verifying numerical models. Dimensionless curves are used to study the effects of a finite thickness skin and a partially penetrating wellbore. In the presence of a finite thickness skin, or a partially penetrating wellbore, a typical flow response for the constant-head pumping test has three distinct periods of flow corresponding to small-, intermediate- and large-time. Small- and large-time approximations are presented for the model. For tests where the wellbore is fully penetrating, or the partial penetration ratio is known, these approximations can be used to analyse field data. 相似文献
