An inverse micromechanics approach allows interpretation of nanoindentation results to deliver cohesive‐frictional strength behavior of the porous clay binder phase in shale. A recently developed strength homogenization model, using the Linear Comparison Composite approach, considers porous clay as a granular material with a cohesive‐frictional solid phase. This strength homogenization model is employed in a Limit Analysis Solver to study indentation hardness responses and develop scaling relationships for indentation hardness with clay packing density. Using an inverse approach for nanoindentation on a variety of shale materials gives estimates of packing density distributions within each shale and demonstrates that there exists shale‐independent scaling relations of the cohesion and of the friction coefficient that vary with clay packing density. It is observed that the friction coefficient, which may be interpreted as a degree of pressure‐sensitivity in strength, tends to zero as clay packing density increases to one. In contrast, cohesion reaches its highest value as clay packing density increases to one. The physical origins of these phenomena are discussed, and related to fractal packing of these nanogranular materials. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Concentrations of 222Rn at 0.1 m and 6.5 m height above ground level and 222Rn flux density were measured during nights characterized by strong cooling, light winds and clear sky conditions in the Carpathian Basin in Hungary. A very stable boundary layer (vSBL) formed on 14 nights between 15 August and 3 September 2009. On 12 nights, an estimated 72% (s.d. 20%) of 222Rn emitted from the surface since sunset was retained within the lowest 6.5 m above the ground until sunrise the following morning. On two nights an intermittent increase in wind speed at 9.4 m height was followed by a rise in temperature at 2.0 m height, indicating a larger atmospheric motion that resulted in 222Rn at 0.1 m around sunrise being the same as around the preceding sunset. It does not seem to be rare in a large continental basin for a vSBL to be nearly completely decoupled from the atmosphere above for the entire period from sunset to sunrise.  相似文献

In recent years, large development and market integration programs have altered the socioeconomic structures and cultural identity of rural communities and ethnic minorities in Southwest China and influenced the management of natural resources. This article analyzes livelihood strategies in the Shuiluo Valley, a remote area of the Sino-Tibetan borderlands. Agricultural activities and the management of natural resources were studied in five villages of Muli Tibetan Autonomous County, Sichuan Province. Characteristic for rural societies in transition, livelihoods were found to be flexible, combining subsistence agriculture, off-farm employment, and the exploitation of both renewable and nonrenewable natural resources. Accessibility of villages did not influence household income and livelihood activities, and poorer households were not found to depend more on natural resources or on income from agriculture than wealthier households. The option of gold prospecting constitutes a major difference compared to more nontimber forest product-based livelihoods in adjacent areas of Southwest China.  相似文献

The evolution of the Early Palaeozoic orogen of West Gondwana in the Cambrian to Ordovician basement of the Andes between ~18° and 32° S is investigated for pressure and temperature conditions and age of metamorphism. It is characterized by mid-crust temperatures commonly above the wet granite solidus (~650°C). Widespread felsic migmatite and rare granulite formed at pressures of ca 0.5?C0.7?GPa, locally 1.0?GPa. These rocks represent the deepest exhumed sections of the Early Palaeozoic crust. High pressure?Clow temperature rocks are absent. The crystallization ages, compiled from the literature in combination with new data, for near peak metamorphic conditions of these high-grade metamorphic rocks in NW Argentina and N Chile are ~530?C500?Ma and ~470?C420?Ma. Both age groups are spatially overlapping. Radiogenic isotope signatures (Sr, Nd, Pb) are used to characterize the Early Palaeozoic basement. The Pb and Sr isotope compositions of the Early Palaeozoic basement indicate mixing arrays between pre-Palaeozoic unradiogenic and radiogenic crust. Crustal residence ages (Sm?CNd TDM) indicate a prominent event of crust formation around ~2?Ga, which is known continent-wide. This material was recycled during Midproterozoic and Early Palaeozoic orogenies without prominent additions of new crust present in the isotope record, i.e. accretion of compositional exotic material is absent.  相似文献

The Guelb Moghrein Fe oxide–Cu–Au–Co (IOCG) deposit is located in the northern part of the Mauritanides chain at the western edge of the West African Craton. It is commonly held that the orogenic belt has experienced a polyphase tectonothermal evolution, including two Panafrican and one Variscan event. Dating of two distinct morphological types of hydrothermal monazite and xenotime from Guelb Moghrein yielded in situ U–Pb ages of 2492 ± 9 and 1742 ± 12 Myr respectively. Such ages have not been reported previously from the region which is conspicuous by the widespread occurrence of banded iron formations, more akin to Proterozoic or Archean than to Paleozoic settings. The supracrustal rocks are thought, therefore, to represent a greenstone terrane that was mineralized by hydrothermal fluids during the late Archean and reactivated by middle Proterozoic fluid flow. Final emplacement at the current position on the West African Craton was at ~300 Ma during Gondwana–Laurentia collision.  相似文献

High-pressure zoisite- and clinozoisite-bearing segregations are common in garnet- and albite-bearing amphibolites of the Palaeozoic part of the Lower Schieferhülle, south-central Tauern Window, Austria. The zoisite segregations (primary assemblage: Zo+Qtz+Cal) formed during an early to pre-Hercynian high-pressure event (P≫0.6 GPa, T =500–550 °C) by hydrofracturing as a result of protolith dehydration. Zoisite is growth zoned from Fe3+-poor cores (Al2Fe=9 mol%) to Fe3+-rich rims (17 mol%), and has high Sr, Pb and Ga contents and LREE-enriched REE patterns, controlling the trace element budget of the segregations. Hercynian deformation at c. 0.7 GPa/600 °C kinked and cracked primary zoisite and enhanced breakdown into secondary zoisite (13 mol% Al2Fe), clinozoisite (40–55 mol% Al2Fe), albite (an<20), calcite and white mica during an Eoalpine high-pressure event at 0.9–1.2 GPa/400–500 °C. The clinozoisite segregations (primary assemblage: Czo+Qtz+Omp+Ttn+Chl+Cal) are mm- to cm-wide, vein-like bodies, cross-cutting fabric elements of the host garnet amphibolite. They formed during the Eoalpine high-pressure event at 0.9–1.2 GPa/400–500 °C. During Alpine exhumation, omphacite was pseudomorphed by amphibole, albite, quartz and clinozoisite. Oxygen isotope data suggest equilibrium between host metabasite and zoisite segregations and indicate an internal fluid source and fluid buffering by the protolith. Mobility of P, Nb and LREE changed the protolith’s trace element composition in the vicinity of the zoisite segregations: Mobilization of LREE is evidenced by decreasing modal amounts of LREE-rich epidote and decreasing LREE contents in LREE-rich epidote towards the segregations, changing the REE patterns of the host metabasite from LREE-enriched to LREE-depleted. Tectonic discrimination diagrams, based on the trace element content of metabasites, should be applied with extreme caution.  相似文献

Subsidence analysis of 16 wells in the Austrian Molasse basin documents major spatial and temporal changes in tectonic subsidence as well as a late-stage surface uplift. The timing of the main phase of tectonic subsidence shifted from early Oligocene in the western part of the peripheral foreland to the early Miocene in the eastern part. These temporal and spatial changes in tectonic subsidence reflect a change from oblique dextral to sinistral convergence between the Alpine nappe stack and its foreland. The main phase of sediment accumulation was delayed to the early Miocene and led to the infill of the basin and a major second, sediment-load driven phase of basement subsidence. Sediment accumulation rates in the basin reflect the build-up of topography in the Alpine mountain chain. Since approximately 6 Ma a pronounced regional uplift of the entire Molasse basin has taken place, marking the transition from lateral extrusion to orthogonal contraction within the Alpine system and deep-seated changes in geodynamic boundary conditions, possibly due to delamination of previously thickened lithosphere. Surface uplift is contemporaneous with similar processes in extra-Alpine Central Europe, where it is interpreted to reflect intra-plate stress changes.  相似文献

Summary. A generalized ray theory for transient SH -waves in a wedge-shaped layer over an elastic half-space is developed in this paper. The ray integrals for multiply reflected waves in the layer are derived in terms of two systems of coordinates and two sets of local wavenumbers, one along the free surface and the other along the sloped interface. All local wavenumbers are then transformed to a common wavenumber in all ray integrals which are evaluated by the Cagniard method. Results for the first motion approximation are in agreement with previous investigations.  相似文献
