When using Transient Geo-Electromagnetics (TEM) unusually slow decaying transients are sometimes observed in the absence of well-conductive objects. Many researchers explain this phenomenon by presence of material with magneto-viscous or superparamagnetic (SPM) properties. The analysis of electromagnetic (EM) field equations in conductive SPM medium is suggested in the present paper. It is shown that in a simplest case of small size single-domain magnetic particles with relative higher potential barrier energy, the SPM-medium is characterized by a very slow decaying exponential transient magnetic field, the level of which is much more as compared to that of due to non-magnetic medium of the same conductivity. This situation is traced up to the late transient time like 0.1 s and more. SPM and Induction fields are in the near zone additive. They depend in a different way on the superparamagnetic and electric properties of the SPM-medium. They also depend in different ways on the transient time and on the size of the transmitter–receiver configuration. Human activity has perturbed the Earth's energy balance by altering the properties of the atmosphere and the surface. This perturbation is of a size that would be expected to lead to significant changes in climate. In recent years, an increasing number of possible human-related climate change mechanisms have begun to be quantified. This paper reviews developments in radiative forcing that have occurred since the second assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and proposes modifications to the values of global-mean radiative forcings since pre-industrial times given by IPCC. The forcing mechanisms which are considered here include those due to changes in concentrations of well-mixed greenhouse gases, tropospheric and stratospheric ozone, aerosols composed of sulphate, soot, organics and mineral dust (including their direct and indirect effects), and surface albedo. For many of these mechanisms, the size, spatial pattern and, for some, even the sign of their effect remain uncertain. Studies which have attributed observed climate change to human activity have considered only a subset of these mechanisms; their conclusions may not prove to be robust when a broader set is included. 相似文献

Zusammenfassung Im Irumiden-Gebirge (E.Ackermann 1950) Nordrhodesiens konnten mit Hilfe von Gefüge-Auswertungen zwei altersverschiedene tektonische Verformungspläne mit jeweils voneinander abweichenden Richtungen herausgestellt werden.Jedem der orogenetischen Abläufe kann ein spezifischer Metamorphose-Zyklus zugeordnet werden.Für die erste Metamorphose ist eine Plagioklas-Blastese mit vermutlicher Natrium- und eventuell auch Kalziumzufuhr, für die letzte eine sehr kräftige Kalizufuhr von größter Bedeutung. Die Plagioklas-reichen Gneise, die Endprodukte der ersten Metamorphose, sind in kleineren reliktischen Komplexen über das gesamte Gebiet verbreitet, während sich die Kalifeldspat-Porphyroblasten-Gneise und Gneis-Granite auf ENE und NE gerichtete und in dieser Richtung vielfach gelängte und durchbewegte Züge verteilen. Zur Sprossung von sehr großen idiomorphen Mikroklinen und zu großen KF-Anreicherungen kommt es zu beiden Seiten der irumidisch-ENE-gerichteten Scheitelzonen (siehe E.Ackermann und A.Forster 1960). Innerhalb dieser hochmetamorphen Gneise und Gneisgranite treten die erstgenannten Plagioklas-betonten Gneise als reliktische, unverdaute Schollen auf. Die Plagioklase und wenigen Kalifeldspäte der älteren Feldspatgeneration werden zusammen mit ihren Biotitsäumen in den bis zu Kinderkopf-großen jüngeren Mikroklinporphyroblasten der sogenannten Mkushi-Gneise eingeschlossen.
In the Irumide-Mountains of Northern Rhodesia, petrofabric analysis shows two intersecting systems of deformations being of different age. Each orogeny can be traced to a specific cycle of metamorphism. The earlier metamorphism was connected with a blastesis of plagioclase and with probable influx of sodium and calcium, the later-one with a strong addition of potassium. Final products of the first cycle occur (as small relict complexes of plagioclase-gneisses) within the whole area of highly metamorphous gneisses of the second phase. Gneisses containing porphyroblasts of potassium feldspars and granitic gneisses strike ENE and NE. At both flanks of the ENE-striking anticlinoria, blastesis of large euhedral microcline crystals and enrichment of potassium feldspars occur. Plagioclases and potassium feldspars of the older generations are found (as big inclusions) within the porphyroblasts of microcline belonging to the younger generation.
Résumé Dans le massif des Irumides (E.Ackermann 1950) en Rhodésie du Nord on trouve deux systèmes de déformation d'âge différent avec des directions distinctes et un cycle spécifique de métamorphoses. Pour la première métamorphose on constate une blastèse à plagioclase avec probablement un apport de Na et éventuellement de Ca—pour la dernière un fort apport de K. Les produits finaux du premier cycle, sous la forme de complexes résiduels à base de gneiss plagioclasiques, se rencontrent dans toute le région des gneiss fortement métamorphiques de la seconde phase. Des gneiss à porphyroblastes de feldspath de potasse et des granites gneissiques ont une direction ENE et NE. Une blastèse de grands microclines idiomorphes et de grands enrichissements en feldspath de potasse se sont effectués sur les flancs des zones de crête irumidiques de direction ENE. Les plagioclases avec leurs bordures à biotite de la génération plus ancienne sont entourés par des porphyroblastes à microcline dans les gneiss de Mkushi.

Diffusion parameters have been estimated for K-feldspar in and adjacent to mylonite shear zones in the Wyangala Batholith. The parameters obtained suggest that deformation during mylonitisation would have caused argon systematics to reset because diffusion distances were reduced by cataclasis, deformation and/or recrystallisation. However, the mineral lattice remained sufficiently retentive to allow subsequently produced radiogenic argon to be retained. 40Ar/39Ar geochronology is thus able to constrain operation of these biotite-grade ductile shear zones to the period from ca 380 Ma to ca 360 Ma, at the end of the Tabberabberan Orogeny. 相似文献

Pergamum (modern: Bergama) was operating an important harbour used by military forces and merchants at the city of Elaia during Hellenistic and Roman Imperial times. Harbour‐related facilities such as warehouses, breakwaters and wharfs document the importance of this harbour site not only for the Pergamenians. This paper focuses on the purpose and age of six submerged wall structures situated approximately 1 km south of the ancient closed harbour basin of Elaia. Geoelectric cross‐sections and semi‐aquatic coring near these walls failed to detect any solid basement under the walls which excludes their possible use as breakwaters or wharfs. Instead, the walls were most likely delineating and separating evaporation ponds of salt works, which compares well with similar structures from other periods and places around the Mediterranean. Combined OSL and 14C‐dating determined the construction age of the installation between the 4th and 6th centuries A.D. Subsequent (re‐)uses are likely and are in agreement with findings from archaeological surveys. 相似文献

Thick supraglacial debris layers often have an undulating, hummocky topography that influences the lateral transport of debris and meltwater and provides basins for supraglacial ponds. The role of ablation and other processes associated with supraglacial debris in giving rise to this hummocky topography is poorly understood. Characterizing hummocky topography is a first step towards understanding the feedbacks driving the evolution of debris-covered glacier surfaces and their potential impacts on mass balance, hydrology and glacier dynamics. Here we undertake a geomorphological assessment of the hummocky topography on five debris-covered glaciers in the Everest region of the central Himalaya. We characterize supraglacial hummocks through statistical analyses of their vertical relief and horizontal geometry. Our results establish supraglacial hummocks as a distinct landform. We find that a typical hummock has an elongation ratio of 1.1:1 in the direction of ice flow, length of 214 ± 109 m and width of 192 ± 88 m. Hummocky topography has a greater amplitude across-glacier (15.4 ± 10.9 m) compared to along the glacier flow line (12.6 ± 8.3 m). Consequently, hummock slopes are steeper in the across-glacier direction (8.7 ± 4.3°) than in the direction of ice flow (5.6 ± 4.0°). Longer, wider and higher-amplitude hummocks are found on larger glaciers. We postulate that directional anisotropy in the hummock topography arises because, while the pattern of differential ablation driving topography evolution is moderated by processes including the gravitational redistribution of debris across the glacier surface, it also inherits an orientation preference from the distribution of englacial debris in the underlying ice. Our morphometric data inform future efforts to model these interactions, which should account for additional factors such as the genesis of supraglacial ponds and ice cliffs and their impact on differential ablation. 相似文献

Southwestward volume transport (referred to 1,500 db) out of the Gulf of Alaska seaward of the continental shelf in May 1972 was 12.5 Sv, and nearly 3/4 of this flow occurred within 50 km of the shelf edge. Mean geostrophic velocities of about 50 cm s–1 occurred in a band 20 km wide, which extended 500 km along the shelf edge; a maximum velocity of 98 cm s–1 (nearly 2 knots) was obtained. Bottom flow along the inshore part of the shelf as determined by seabed drifters was generally onshore at 0.5 cm s–1. Evidence is presented of a large cyclonic gyre on the shelf encompassing the Portlock and Albatross Banks, perturbations in surface flow along the shelf edge, and relations between coastal tidal heights and fluctuations in geopotential topography at the shelf edge. 相似文献
