The concentrations of Ca, some essential (Fe, Zn, Mn, and Cu) and non-essential nutritive elements (Cd, Pb, and Ni) were measured in the edible parts (mantle and adductor muscles) of Tridacna maximx collected from south Quseir City (Red Sea). The general trend of metal contents of the different parts follows the order; Ca > Fe > Zn > Pb > Mn > Cu > Cd > Ni. The tissues before cooking recorded the highest average concentrations of Cu, Pb, Fe, Cd, Mn, and Ni (2.658, 5.250, 34.375, 1.464, 3.207, and 0.886 ppm, respectively) relative to tissues after cooking and the water of cooked tissues (WCT). The total cooked tissues recorded higher average contents of Zn and Ca (17.282 and 1,114.679 ppm) than the uncooked tissues. Calcium recorded the highest concentration in the ECT of adductor and mantle muscles (2,081.126 ± 177.39 and 1,893.326 ± 394.28 ppm). Mantle recorded higher concentrations of Pb, Mn, Ni, and Ca (7.489 ± 4.65, 4.241 ± 1.13, 0.980 ± 0.60, and 1,039.362 ± 177.42 ppm, respectively) than adductor muscle before cooking. Ca concentration levels in the WCT increased after cooking tissues especially in adductor muscles. This may attributed to the liberation of larger amount of calcium in ionic form in water. The clams may have intracellular regulatory mechanisms to keep their concentrations in equilibrium, subsequently; the recorded metal concentrations are in the safe limits for human consuming, where these concentrations did not exceed the clam’s capacity of regulation.  相似文献

The Wadi Watir delta in the Wadi Watir watershed is a tourist area in the arid southeastern part of the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, where development and growth of the community on the delta are constrained by the amount of groundwater that can be withdrawn sustainably. To effectively manage groundwater resources in the Wadi Watir delta, the origin of groundwater recharge, groundwater age, and changes in groundwater chemistry in the watershed needs to be understood. Mineral identification, rock chemistry, water chemistry, and the isotopes of hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon in groundwater were used to identify the sources, mixing, and ages of groundwater in the watershed and the chemical evolution of groundwater as it flows from the upland areas in the watershed to the developed areas at the Wadi Watir delta. Groundwater in the Wadi Watir watershed is primarily from recent recharge while groundwater salinity is controlled by mixing of chemically different waters and dissolution of minerals and salts in the aquifers. The El Shiekh Attia and Wadi El Ain areas in the upper Wadi Watir watershed have different recharge sources, either from recharge from other areas or from different storm events. The downgradient Main Channel area receives groundwater flow primarily from the El Shiekh Attia area. Groundwater in the Main Channel area is the primary source of groundwater supplying the aquifers of the Wadi Watir delta.  相似文献

The objective of the current study is to use satellite data to assess the mutual influence between vegetation and climate. The Ismailia Governorate was selected as a case study to investigate the impact of vegetation cover expansion on both land surface and air temperature from 1983 to 2010 and vice versa. This observation site was carefully selected as a clear example of the high rate of the reclamation and vegetation expansion process in Egypt. Land surface temperature (LST) was estimated through the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (a space-borne sensor embarked on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) data while air temperature (T air) was collected from ground meteorological stations in the study area. Irrigated agriculture is the largest consumer of freshwater resources. However, consistent information on irrigation water use is still lacking. Relative humidity, wind speed, solar radiation, and T air data were inserted in the Penman–Monteith equation to calculate potential evapotranspiration (ETo), while both LST and T air were used to observe the relative water status of the study area as a result of the water deficit index (WDI). Then, both WDI and ETo were used to calculate actual evepotranspiration (ETC.). The results showed that LST decreased by about 2.3 °C while T air decreased by about 1.6 °C during the study period. The results showed also that the vegetation cover expanded from 25,529.85 ha in 1985 to 63,140.49 ha in 2009 with about 147 % increase. This decrease in LST and air temperature was according to the expansion of the cultivated land that was proved through the processing of three Landsat TM and Landsat ETM+ imageries acquired in June 19, 1985, June 7, 1998, and June 29, 2009. The vegetation water consumption was affected by the decreasing surface and air temperature. The results showed that the water deficit index decreased by about 0.35, and actual evapotranspiration increased by about 2.5 mm during the study period.  相似文献

A large lower Eocene bentonite deposit at the top of Sinn El-Kaddab plateau, southern Egypt, is investigated. It forms isolated anticlinal hills as mesa and cuesta geomorphic units. The Sinn El-Kaddab plateau (497 m above sea level) with Gebel Abyad in northern Sudan represent the most southern margin of Tethys realm in East Africa. Clay and silt fractions constitute up to 95 % of the bentonite and calcium montmorillonite is the predominant phase (70–87 %). These sediments were deposited during the Paleocene–Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) event. Grain-size distribution in conjunction with their geologic setting argues in favor of a low energy deep hemipelagic, restricted basin within the outer shelf zone. They suggest sporadic deposition in a basin characterized by relief oscillation, in response to continuous tectonic uplifting. The sediments of the peripheral parts of the basin are more calcareous and were deposited in an arid climatic condition. Calcium montmorillonite was deposited in subtropical warm climate, with alternating wet and dry seasons. Compositionally, the bentonite shales are basic to intermediate and exhibit a rather limited range of K2O/Na2O and SiO2/Al2O3 ratios. They suggest mature polycyclic siliciclastics as the main provenance and within-plate alkali basalts as a main igneous precursor. They are the product of intensive physical weathering process in response to combined effects of both tectonic disturbance and prevailed climatic conditions during the PETM event. Geochemically, they are interpreted in terms of mixing of two end-members: pure clastic terrigenous component (inherited from the source area) and carbonate-rich matrix.  相似文献

We applied a seismic tomography technique to arrival time data generated by local crustal earthquakes in central Anatolia in order to study the three-dimensional velocity and Vp/Vs structures and their relation with the complex tectonic processes and seismic activity occurring in the study region. The relatively equal and large number of both P- and S-wave arrival times comprising a total of 51,650 arrivals and the relatively uniform distribution of the recording stations imply that the obtained velocity anomalies are reliable features down to a depth of 40 km. This is also evident from the results of the checkerboard resolution test, hit count, and the ray-path coverage. The inversion results indicate the existence of strong lateral heterogeneities in the crust and uppermost mantle beneath central Anatolia. Prominent low-velocity anomalies are clearly imaged at all layers especially beneath existing volcanoes and the active fault segments. Higher-than-average Vp/Vs ratios are widely distributed, indicating the possible existence of over-pressurized fluids that may be responsible for the triggering of the large crustal earthquakes along the north and east Anatolian fault zones. We noticed that the seismic activity occurs mainly at the low-velocity areas and to a lesser extent in some high-velocity zones, perhaps because of the complex tectonics and geological structures. These observations imply that all the zones with velocity anomalies—either low or high—are potential sites for strain energy accumulation and subsequent release. The obtained velocity and Vp/Vs models are consistent with previous geophysical measurements conducted beneath central Anatolia and give much deeper understanding of the current seismotectonic processes occurring in the region.  相似文献

Bir M'Cherga-Ain Asker area, situated in the hinterland of Zaghouan thrust (Tunisian dorsal), was the land example treated with metric and cartographic scale in order to identify duplex genesis criteria and to include thrusting tectonics associated with tear faults, which are in fact the directory response generating duplex structures identified in outcrop for the first time through Tunisia in this case. Given its geological location between the "dôme" and the "dorsal" zone of Tunisia, this area was the most exposed to a highly paleostress history expressed by a huge fault system remobilization and reactivation through several tectonic events from NE–SW middle Cretaceous distension to a NW–SE and NNW–SSE Paleogene compression. Regarding fault planes generated analysis, they show numerous streak generation of normal, strike-slip, and reverse faults that go with geodynamic and paleostress evolution of the studied area; we note that each streak generation is perfectly matching with one of the tectonic event (mentioned before) affecting the area. In this paper, we analyze duplex structure elaboration scenarios to assess the involved kinematics and their geometrical recognition criterious. We propose to discuss the causes of duplex structures installation in a thrust belt system and the predictable geometrical styles after its installation on foreland or backland. Using the geometrical criteria acquired through this analysis, we will show that such, however, exceptionable structures exist on the land, and that they record the mechanisms of their genesis linked to the tear faults acting in this case. We describe "tear faults" as the sliding breaks which disunite two compartments during deformation, allowing them to undergo different independent deformations in their drawing and their width (for example more or less stretched folds). These types of faults differ from that of the true stick-slip faults, which slice and shift preformed structures (it's even this shift which makes it possible to highlight them); here, there are no shift but dissimilarity of the structures on both sides of the fault; therefore, deformations are the direct results of displacements; they are expressed in thrust belts by ramp folds, intense internal deformations, and even by complex duplex structures. A duplex feature that is not mainly studied is made up by tilted imbricate sedimentary sequences (or horses), separated by link thrusts and underlined respectively at their tops and bottoms by roof and floor thrusts. Imbrications cause a shortening, a thickening, or a thinning of stratigraphic columns and even its crushing and inverting. In thrust belts, duplexes are usually set up following two or even more deformational events; those structures start typically with decollement and imbricate sedimentary unit ones which are made cover by a roof thrust sometimes visible at outcrop. Through this paper, we suggest to discuss geometrical duplex criteria, and we will try a zooming through different scales, from regional to local one in order to show how the shape (expression) of the deformation differs.  相似文献

The Wadi Watir delta, in the arid Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, contains an alluvial aquifer underlain by impermeable Precambrian basement rock. The scarcity of rainfall during the last decade, combined with high pumping rates, resulted in degradation of water quality in the main supply wells along the mountain front, which has resulted in reduced groundwater pumping. Additionally, seawater intrusion along the coast has increased salinity in some wells. A three-dimensional (3D) groundwater flow model (MODFLOW) was calibrated using groundwater-level changes and pumping rates from 1982 to 2009; the groundwater recharge rate was estimated to be 1.58?×?106 m3/year. A variable-density flow model (SEAWAT) was used to evaluate seawater intrusion for different pumping rates and well-field locations. Water chemistry and stable isotope data were used to calculate seawater mixing with groundwater along the coast. Geochemical modeling (NETPATH) determined the sources and mixing of different groundwaters from the mountainous recharge areas and within the delta aquifers; results showed that the groundwater salinity is controlled by dissolution of minerals and salts in the aquifers along flow paths and mixing of chemically different waters, including upwelling of saline groundwater and seawater intrusion. Future groundwater pumping must be closely monitored to limit these effects.  相似文献

Climate aridity and intensive exploitation due to uncontrolled pumping for irrigation have caused a drastic decrease in the piezometric level of the shallow aquifer of Chougafiya plain, central Tunisia, and have seriously degraded groundwater quality. According to the hydrochemical data (Cl?, SO4 2?, NO3 ?, HCO3 ?, Br?, Na+, Mg2+, K+, Ca2+, Sr2+) and the stable isotopes (18O and 2H content), groundwater salinization in the investigated aquifer is caused by four main processes: (1) evaporite dissolution (2) cation exchange reactions (3) evaporation processes and (4) mixing with Sabkhas salt water causing salinity to increase in the central and southern parts of the basin. The radiogenic (3H) isotope data provided insight into the presence of significant contemporaneous recharge waters in the western part of the shallow aquifer. The movement of the tritiated water may have occurred according to the general flow path (NW–SE). When tritium was used in conjunction with the stable isotopes and chloride, the mixing process could be clearly identified, especially in the central part of the study area.  相似文献

Ras El Hekma area was chosen for the present study due to its special conditions; the area lacks water for human and agriculture proposes. This area represents one of the main headlands along the southern Mediterranean coast, where population growth and agricultural activities require the corresponding development of groundwater. The main objective of this paper is to monitor and record data about the current groundwater as well as to have a systematic understanding of the hydrogeological setting in the area of study. Also, one of the study objectives is to identify and assess the factors which affect the groundwater occurrence and quality. This assessment will contribute to groundwater protection. The study area has three aquifers: Holocene, Pleistocene, and Middle Miocene aquifers. The recharge to these aquifers comes from the direct infiltration of rainfall and from the surface runoff. Rock–water interaction and the effect of solution and leaching processes on the mineralization of groundwater are studied using the PHREEQC model. Seawater intrusion contributes effectively to the increase in water salinity. The present study clarifies the relationship between the depth to water, the sea level and salinity of water. The groundwater in the area of study is evaluated for drinking, domestic, livestock and agricultural purposes. The present study suggests some recommendations for developing the groundwater in the study area.  相似文献

Sn–W deposit of the Mueilha mine is one of many other Sn–W deposits in the Eastern desert of Egypt that associated with albite granite. Two forms of Sn–W mineralizations are known at the Mueilha Sn-mine area, namely fissure filling quartz veins and greisen. Cassiterite and/or wolframite, sheelite, and beryl are the main ore minerals in the greisen and quartz veins. Subordinate chalcopyrite and supergene malachite and limonite are also observed in the mineralized veins. To constrain the P–T conditions of the Sn–W mineralizations, fluid inclusions trapped in quartz and cassiterite, have been investigated. The following primary fluid inclusion types are observed: CO2-rich, two-phase (L?+?V) aqueous, and immiscible three-phase (H2O–CO2) inclusions. Low temperature and low salinity secondary inclusions were also detected in the studied samples. Microthermometric results revealed that Sn–W deposition seem to have taken place due to immiscibility at temperature between 260°C and 340°C, and estimated pressure between 1.2 to 2.2 kb. Microthermometric results of fluid inclusions in fluorite from fluorite veins illustrated that fluorite seems to be deposited due to mixing of two fluids at minimum temperature 140°C and 180°C, and estimated minimum pressure at 800 bars.  相似文献
